The Goddess Chose Me to Bring Suffering

Chapter 57: Twenty Breakers Vs 1 : Things Heat up

All eyes in the lounge turned toward X, escorting him as they progressed to the basement jails. In a twisted way, the attention didn’t bother him in the slightest. If anything, it amused him, making a quiet laugh escape his lips.

At first, he held his amusement to himself, sealing his laughter so that only he and those near him could hear it. But with time, he could no longer hold himself back.

"Hahaha!!"

He laughed like a madman, his chuckles stopping the clapping crowd that had surrounded them. Confusion took over the scene, everyone looking at one another for answers that never came.

The man was locked in a power neutralizer, and in a few seconds he would be going to jail for a crime that, with no doubt , would only lead to his death. After considering all those moving parts of the wheel, he still had enough courage to laugh? Staying quiet maybe. Denying it definitely. But in no book about Breakers was there a guide on what to do when your fugitive is laughing.

The twenty Breakers began asking each other if even sending him to jail was a good idea. They knew he was going to try something, so why not cut short all the theatrics of going to the council and just end it themselves?

"We are going to follow protocol. He has his own rights too. If we deny him that, then we are no better than him."

James shut the murmurs off, leading them to the door that led down to the basement, where a specially reinforced cell prepared for the most evil enemy of the Government was set and ready for him.

A cold chill welcomed them before they could even enter, like a commercial showing what they were getting themselves into. The atmosphere was tense, like some kind of rope just waiting to snap.

"James, Kallion, and Katelyn."

X began.

Somehow, no matter how they tried, none of them could move him from where he stood . He was frozen solid, like he had been pinned to the ground with nails.

"I’ve played along with the theatrics. I guess now it’s time to be serious."

"I know what you’re getting at, trying to get into our minds. If there’s something you know more than anything, it’s messing with people’s minds."

James had a lot of experience with X’s techniques. At one point in time, James’s squad was just beneath X’s. That was before the ranks had been created and the institution wasn’t as well established as it is today. But those things didn’t stop them from executing their missions without fail. And among those praised for being powerful was X. His powers were unknown, since during the scanning ceremony he came out as Null, but one thing was certain—the man found happiness in messing with people’s minds.

"You will never change."

X jumped back into the air, landing in the middle of the twenty Breakers. With his hands still cuffed, he managed to fight off many of the Breakers, kicks, punched, anything to inflict pain at his enemies. He never allowed anyone to form their attacks. As soon as a hand glowed with magic, that person would become his immediate target, he would take them down, no matter how far away they were.

The strategy helped him knock several Breakers to the ground, completely disrupting their formation. Unfortunately for him, they regained their coordination after James shouted at them.

This time, they attacked together, combining their strength and sending him flying out of the group, his body landing several meters away.

"This guy is powerful."

"So that’s his mere strength. Just imagine what he would do if when he has his powers!"

The audience watching the fight unfold murmured to one another as they stood surrounding the large floor. They wanted to join the fight, but none of them gathered enough courage to do it.

Little did they know that things were about to get worse.

"I never thought I’d have to beat all the Breakers to prove that I’m number one."

He clenched his fists, pulling his cuffed arms away from each other until a loud clack echoed as the cuffs separated into two like they were made of wood.

Realization struck everyone deep in their souls. All along, he had been pretending that he couldn’t break out the cuffs, a ruse to make them lower their guard.

X lifted one hand, trying to cast a skill, but the unit interupted.

They attacked him at once—Jake’s team along with the ranked Breakers. Each one threw their attacks, sometimes even combining them into combo attacks if they timed them right.

Even with that effort, everyone was either kicked or punched away effortlessly using some kind of martial art they had never seen before. Not even from the movies back on Earth.

That wasn’t even the worst part.

X was striking them specifically at the vital pressure points that controlled the flow of power through their muscles. It was like an overbent drinking straw that could still do its job, just not as efficiently as it was meant to.

By the end of the first minute, the fight had dragged on for quite some time. All the Breakers who weren’t involved had run out of the building in fear of their lives. The beautiful tiled floor was broken into pieces as if a meteorite had fallen on it. In some parts of the ceiling, fire detectors sprinkled gallons of water onto the broken ground.

The ranked Breakers tried activating their techniques, but every time they did, they either failed halfway or never formed them at all. But the physical toll those skills took on them still happened, tenfold the normal effects. Like buying something from a shop but never actually getting what you paid for—you’d be spending money with nothing to show for it.

Somehow, this recent development was affecting only them. Their enemy seemed completely fine.

’It’s gotta be his technique... it’s gotta be.’

"No one should use their skills on him. It’s eating us up!"

"You should’ve told us before we’d used up all our strength!"

One of the overwhelmed Breakers shouted with the last ounce of strength he had.

The Breakers seemed like they had gotten a hold of it. They were forced to fight one on one, just like they had forced X to do moments ago.

Everyone got ready for round two.

They launched at him.

But then the invisible force he had used on Jake appeared again, pausing everyone in their tracks. Whether they were in mid-air or jumping, the whole scene froze as if someone had stopped time.

The trapped ones could still see what was happening in real time, giving X the freedom to do whatever he wished.

"So, who should I punish first for this unholy action?"

He slowly swept his gaze across the group, searching for the perfect person to bring suffering to. Or maybe cut into pieces before he released them, letting a whole surge of pain come flooding down on them at once.

Maybe they’d even collapse or die.

With a smile on his face, he moved through the crew. He found Jake, but since he had already pretty much made his life hell, he switched to fresh meat.

And by fresh meat...

It was Jennifer, Leo’s crush.
