I Reincarnated as a LonelyFans Star with a Streamer System

[Vol. 2] Chapter 45: POV: Mei’s Night

The car door closed behind me with a soft click.

I settled into the back seat and let out a small sigh as I rested my head against the headrest.

"How was the gathering, Ojou-sama?" asked Izumi from the front seat.

"Did you have fun?"

I looked out the window.

The city lights began sliding across the glass as the car slowly pulled away from the building.

Without realizing it, I smiled.

"Yes."

I thought about the small celebration.

The laughter.

Arima getting electrocuted for the third time.

And how, in the end, we'd all spent a genuinely pleasant afternoon.

"I had a lot of fun."

Izumi smiled at my answer.

"I'm glad."

I looked out the window again.

The car continued on. Fifteen minutes later, the commercial streets gave way to quieter avenues and much larger buildings.

Finally, we arrived.

The enormous family residence appeared behind the security gates.

It wasn't exactly a palace.

But for any normal person it would probably have been hard to call it simply a house.

A wide garden surrounded the main building, perfectly maintained.

The lit windows reflected the night.

Everything was clean.

Orderly.

Perfect.

As always.

The car stopped at the entrance.

I got out.

"Welcome home, Ojou-sama."

One of the staff gave a small bow.

"Thank you."

I went inside.

The atmosphere was quiet.

Too quiet after the afternoon I'd just had.

"I'll prepare your bath," said Izumi. "You must be tired."

"Yes. Thank you."

"It'll be ready in a few minutes."

I nodded and went upstairs to my room.

Once inside, I left my bag on the chair.

I stood still for a few seconds.

Then I remembered something.

"Ah…"

I opened the bag.

I took out the document Sasaki-san had given us.

The contract.

I placed it on the desk.

I looked at it.

Everything was there.

The film's title.

The dates.

The conditions.

My character.

Only one thing was missing.

My parents' signatures.

I ran a finger along the empty space.

"…"

I narrowed my eyes.

"Aaaggh…"

I let myself fall onto the bed.

"There's no way they'll agree."

I looked up at the ceiling and let out a sigh.

"I should have stayed firm and turned down the offer, but…"

I closed my eyes and remembered the expression on Aika's face when she took my hand in the café.

"I couldn't say no after that…"

A little while later, Izumi let me know the bath was ready.

I went in and found the large bathroom lit softly.

The bathtub took up a considerable part of the room — so big that if I wanted, I could swim in it.

In fact, I had done exactly that a few times as a child, earning more than a few scoldings from Izumi.

I laughed quietly to myself remembering it.

After finishing my skincare routine, I sank into the warm water.

"Ahhh…"

Every muscle in my body relaxed.

The water was perfect.

I closed my eyes.

My mind went blank for a few minutes, until I found myself thinking about the party again.

Everyone in the living room.

The conversations, the music, the laughter.

And then…

Aika.

My expression shifted slightly.

I remembered the moment in the kitchen.

I'd been about to throw away some bottles and she'd rushed over to stop me from opening the trash bin…

"…"

We'd gotten too close.

Much too close.

I could remember perfectly the feeling of that instant.

We were so… close.

My cheeks started burning.

And on top of that… she put her hands on my…

I brought a hand to my face.

"Kyaaa…!"

I sank a little deeper into the water.

Why am I thinking about this now?

My face turned even redder.

From outside I heard Izumi's voice.

"Ojou-sama?!"

I went completely still.

"Are you alright?!"

"Y-yes!"

It seemed I'd made quite a bit of noise without realizing it.

Later.

"Papa, there's something I want to ask you…"

I paused.

"No."

I shook my head.

"Too sudden."

I tried again.

"Papa, I've been offered a part in a film…"

I stopped.

"No."

That sounded even worse.

I brought a hand to my chin.

"I'm lost."

I looked at the contract.

"It's only until December…"

I imagined it.

And then?

"…"

"Ah, this isn't working!"

At that moment I heard the door open.

"Ojou-sama."

I gave a small jump.

Izumi came in with a cold drink on a tray.

"I believe I told you to rest while I prepared this."

I looked at the sheet I was holding.

I immediately hid it behind my back.

"Sorry!"

Izumi looked at me.

Then at my hidden hand.

Then back at me.

"What are you hiding?"

"Me?"

I smiled.

"Nothing."

"…"

"…"

"Ojou-sama."

"Yes?"

"You are a very poor liar."

"What?!"

Izumi sighed.

She set the drink on the table.

"Are you sure you're feeling alright?"

I immediately remembered what had happened in the bath.

My cheeks warmed.

"Y-yes!"

I tilted my head and smiled.

"I'm perfectly fine."

Izumi kept watching me for a few seconds.

"If you say so…"

She turned around.

"Get some rest, alright?"

"Yes."

The door closed and I was left alone, staring at the contract.

When dinner time arrived, I went downstairs to the dining room.

As always, everything was perfectly organized — the cutlery arranged on a table that had always seemed too large for so few people, and some staff moving quickly to serve the food.

I sat in my place while my father reviewed some documents he'd brought with him.

My mother, on the other hand, was quietly flipping through a magazine while she waited for us to begin.

"How was your day, Mei?"

I looked up.

"Very good, Mama."

"And school?"

"That too."

I smiled.

"The teachers are already talking about the quarterly exams."

My father put the documents aside.

"Then I trust you're prepared."

"Yes."

"I don't want the drama club interfering with your studies."

"It won't."

I answered too quickly.

My father looked at me for a second.

Then nodded.

"Good."

I picked up my cutlery.

For a moment I thought perhaps this was the moment.

Now.

I could do it.

I just had to say it.

"Papa…"

He looked up slightly.

"Yes?"

I opened my mouth.

"I…"

Silence.

My mind went completely blank.

Come on, Mei.

Just say it.

"Actually I wanted to…"

My father picked up one of the documents again.

"By the way."

I went still.

"Tomorrow I'd like you to come to the office with me."

"…"

"Huh? Tomorrow?"

"Yes. We'll spend the afternoon there. I want to introduce you to some of the executives."

I felt my expression freeze.

"B-but tomorrow…"

Tomorrow…

Sasaki-san's words echoed in my mind.

"Rehearsals start the day after tomorrow."

My father raised an eyebrow.

"What is it?"

"I…"

My fingers closed slowly around my cutlery.

My father kept talking with complete naturalness.

"You need to start familiarizing yourself with certain things if you're going to be my heir."

I lowered my gaze.

"Yes…"

My voice came out much quieter than I expected.

"Alright."

"It'll be a good experience for you."

"Yes."

I smiled.

Or at least I tried to.

"I'm looking forward to it."

My father turned back to his food.

The conversation continued.

Business.

The company.

Some family acquaintances.

The upcoming exams.

Normal things.

My mother even mentioned something about a trip we could take after exams.

"If you'd like, we could go away for a few days."

I looked up.

"Really?"

"Of course."

She smiled.

"Is there anywhere you'd like to go?"

I thought about it.

Any other day I would have answered immediately.

But now…

What do I want?

I looked at my plate.

I didn't need anything that could be bought with money.

What I wanted was something much harder to ask for…

"Mei."

My mother's voice brought me back.

"Yes?"

"You drifted off again."

"Ah…"

I smiled.

"Sorry."

My mother watched me for a few seconds.

"Is everything alright?"

"Yes."

"You seem a little down."

"It's nothing."

I smiled again.

"I'm just tired."

She didn't seem fully convinced.

But she nodded.

"Then get some rest."

"Yes, Mama."

Dinner continued and ended without me being able to mention the film.

Back in my room, already in my pajamas, I'd just finished my skincare routine.

The contract was sitting on my desk.

I looked at it from across the room.

The space for my parents' signatures was still empty.

"…"

In the end I couldn't say anything to them.

I dropped onto the bed.

"Aika…"

I closed my eyes.

"Yuuna…"

I let out a small sigh.

I'm sorry.

We simply can't walk the same path.

I turned over and hugged one of my stuffed animals.

"What a mess…"

My voice came out muffled against it.

After a few seconds, I picked up my phone and opened my social media.

There were some new notifications.

And then a post appeared.

I stayed looking at it.

It was a simple photo, nothing extraordinary, but I smiled immediately — because it reminded me of what Aika had said to me that same night.

"Thank you."

I shook my head gently.

"Silly girl, you didn't have to thank me for anything."

I scrolled down.

It made me happy too that you joined the club.

"I'm the one who should be thanking you…"

I smiled.

Then I remembered something else.

The cigarette.

"That really was a surprise."

I let out a small laugh.

"I hope you don't make it a habit."

I remembered her expression when I told her she smelled like cigarettes.

She looked like she'd seen a ghost.

Don't worry, your little secret is safe with me.

After all, everyone has their secrets.

I looked at the photo again.

"You don't have to thank me for anything either."

My fingers went still on the screen.

"Because, actually… I should be the one apologizing."

I lowered my gaze and a small smile appeared on my lips.

"Because I also have a secret."

Silence.

"And my secret is…"

I looked at the photo of Aika.

"That I know yours."

I scrolled and without thinking too much about it, I liked it.

"That lipstick really does suit you."

Then I opened the donation option and my fingers typed in an amount.

¥15,000.

I confirmed.

The screen showed the message.

ShadowKing has sent a donation.

I smiled.

And I turned off the screen.
