Chapter 253 Everything was falling into place
_Rowena’s POV_
I went to the hospital to find Kyle after what happened, feeling guilty all of a sudden. I did not take my guards with me, and I did not tell Alaric. The market trip was a waste of time, and I needed to see Kyle myself to get rid of my doubts.
I went up to the third floor and found Room 304. The door was open, so I stood outside and looked inside.
Kyle was standing near a bed, a pregnant girl sat on the bed holding a blanket over her lap.
"Your blood pressure is fine today, Clara," Kyle said, setting his tools down on a tray.
"I was scared last night, Dr. Kyle," the girl said. "My wolf was angry. My chest felt tight, and I thought I was losing the baby."
Kyle sat on a stool beside her bed and put his hand on her arm.
"Your wolf spirit was just reacting to the stress of early labor," Kyle said. "It happens to young mothers during their first pregnancy. I adjusted your medicine an hour ago. You and the baby are safe now. You just need to rest."
The girl let out a breath and relaxed. "Thank you, Doctor. You are very kind. You are the best doctor here."
"I am just doing my job," Kyle said, getting up. "A nurse will bring your food soon."
I stood outside watching them, I felt guilty. I had set a trap at the market, used thugs to catch a boy, and looked through store books just because I thought this man forged medical tests. Yet here he was, working late to help a young mother and her child.
I knocked on the door.
Kyle turned around. When he saw me, he looked surprised, then he smiled.
"Rowena," Kyle said, walking to the door. "Why are you here? Are you sick?"
"No," I said. "I am fine. I came to see you."
Kyle stepped out into the hall and closed the door so we would not disturb the patient. He wiped his hands with a cloth.
"Is everything okay?" he asked. "You look tired."
"I am fine," I said. "I just wanted to apologize. You saved my life after my car crash, but I have been distant lately because of work."
Kyle smiled. "You do not have to apologize, Rowena. You have a territory to run with Alaric. I do not expect special treatment."
His words made me feel even more guilty. I wanted to make things right with him.
"Are you free this weekend, Kyle?" I asked.
Kyle blinked. "This weekend?"
"Yes," I said. "I want you to hang out with me for the weekend. We can leave the hospital and the packhouse work behind. A small trip to relax."
Kyle looked at me for a few seconds. His smile came back.
"A weekend trip sounds nice," Kyle said. "I can clear my schedule for Saturday and Sunday. Where are we going?"
"I will pick the place and send my driver on Saturday morning," I said. "Be ready by nine."
"I will," Kyle said.
"See you on Saturday," I said, turning around and walking to the elevator.

_Kyle’s POV_
I watched her leave the room and a small smile grazed my face. Rowena Rowena Rowena.
She really thought she was the smartest person in the room, thinking she could track my steps with street thugs and a fake leak at the market.
I had known about her little market setup the second Kasper sent that encrypted alert to my hospital terminal. It was too clean, too convenient, and far too obvious. Did they really think I would walk right into a trap like an amateur?
I had simply paid that scrawny nineteen year old market boy fifty dollars to wear a black hoodie, walk up to stall forty two, and pick up a fake lunch order at the exact time they were watching. Watching them tackle an innocent kid through my remote camera feed was the most entertaining thing I had seen all week.
As for the old vendor, it did not take much to handle him. I gave the man a generous amount of cash to tear out the original ledger pages, erase every single trace of my purchases, and write down chamomile tea and lavender oil instead. I also paid him extra to yell at them and preach about what a saint I was.
It worked like a charm.
Now, I know Rowena was standing in my ward feeling guilty, doubting her own instincts, and inviting me on a weekend trip. The almighty Rowena, who calculated every single detail, was completely lost in the palm of my hand.
They would never figure out who I really was. Thinking I was just a doctor who saved her life after a car crash should remain in her mind. They would never have the idea that I was the asset Drake had sent into this territory. My sole goal was to completely destroy Rowena for what she did to Drake’s father. She had ruined his family line, and I was going to make her pay for every single bit of it.
My plan was already moving into place. I would go on this weekend trip with her and play the innocent, gentle doctor. I would let the council elders force the marriage between Alaric and Brielle. Once Alaric was officially tied to Brielle, I would step in, claim Rowena for myself, and break her from the inside out. There was no way they could catch me.
"Dr. Kyle?" a small voice called out from behind me.
I turned around and stepped back into Room 304. Clara was sitting up in her bed, watching me with a confused expression.
"Why are you smiling like that?" Clara asked, tilting her head. "Did something good happen?"
I let a soft, embarrassed look wash over my face. I looked down at the floor, rubbing the back of my neck, pretending to blush right in front of her.
"Was that Marchioness Rowena?" Clara asked, her eyes widening slightly. "Do you... do you like her, Doctor?"
I let out a quiet sigh and gave her a small nod. "I do. But it does not matter, Clara. She is with the Alpha King. A simple doctor like me does not stand a chance against a man like Alaric."
Clara shook her head quickly, looking at me with total sympathy. "That is not true at all! Everyone knows Alaric is about to marry Lady Brielle because of the baby. Once he marries Brielle, Rowena will be single. You are such a good man, Dr. Kyle. You treat everyone with so much kindness. You deserve a chance with her way more than he does."
I looked up at Clara, giving her a humble, grateful smile. "Thank you, Clara. That is very sweet of you to say."
I turned away from her bed, my smile vanishing the moment my back was turned. Everything was falling right into place.
