Laundromat’s maintenence
The scent of fresh espresso and strong lavender detergent hung thick in the morning air. Sunlight streamed through the penthouse windows, illuminating the sprawling living room rug where a very specific, chalky white chemical stain marked the exact spot of the vanguard's thorough orientation from the night before.
Bridget sat at the heavy oak kitchen island, wrapped tightly in an oversized, fluffy purple bathrobe provided by the penthouse inventory. She was currently nurse-feeding a massive mug of black coffee, her muscular shoulders still radiating a deep, lazy ache.
Elara stood on the opposite side of the counter, completely back in character. Her high-collared black uniform was immaculately pressed, her white apron was freshly starched, and her silver hair was tied back in a pristine, flawless bun. She was methodically polishing a silver teacup, her movements carrying a mechanical, rhythmic grace.
Bridget stared into her mug, a sudden, heavy blush creeping up her neck as she thought about the sheer, multi-axis geometry of what had happened to her core the previous night. She took a slow sip, cleared her throat, and looked up.
"You know..." Bridget confessed, her voice slightly raspy. "I had a boyfriend back in the Upper District. A silver-rank Paladin. Big armor, lots of righteous speeches... but after last night? I think I'm gonna dump him."
Elara didn't stop polishing the silver. She didn't even look up, her expression remaining an unblinking mask of "Prim and Proper" composure.
"You think?" Elara questioned, her voice a cool, pleasant melody that carried a sharp, deadpan edge.
Bridget paused, a nervous, breathless laugh escaping her lips as she rubbed the back of her neck. "Yeah... yeah, you're right. I will dump him. There’s absolutely no competing with a hands-free manual transmission. It’s not even the same sport."
She leaned forward over the counter, dropping her voice to a confidential whisper as she glanced toward the hallway, where the faint, synchronized snoring of the exhausted beastkin pack could still be heard.
Unlike the beastkin-girls, Bridget was entirely human. She didn't possess a primal link to extract systemic stat points from Elara's unique build, nor did she treat the maid like a high-protein milkshake dispenser to fuel her own biological evolution. To Bridget, this was a massive upgrade to a friendship-with-benefits arrangement—and she had a lot of practical, human curiosity about the logistics.
"Now, I've been meaning to ask," Bridget muttered, pointing a trembling finger down toward the front of Elara’s starched apron. "What exactly is the story with... this beast down here? Because I've seen some weird magical artifacts in the dungeons, but I've never seen an anatomy modification that can turn corners inside a girl's stomach while her hands are wrapped behind my head."
Elara paused her polishing, setting the silver teacup down onto the counter with a soft, precise clink.
Beneath her pleated skirt, tucked securely down her spider-silk stocking, the 'rolling pin' gave a sudden, heavy thud-thud against her thigh, as if proudly acknowledging the shield-maiden's question. It was perfectly content, pulsing with a slow, smug morning heat.
"It is a highly non-standard class modifier," Elara explained deadpan, smoothing down the front of her apron with mechanical calm. "Specifically, a unique strain of [Persistent Growth] that reacts dynamically to harem synergy metrics."
Bridget blinked, her jaw dropping slightly. "A class modifier? What kind of rogue sub-class builds a concrete flagpole under a dress?!"
"The class is Head Maid," Elara corrected smoothly, her silver-lashed eyes locking onto Bridget with an unblinking, apex-predator focus. "It was unlocked when I received my status as an assassin. With it came an...unexpected perk. My first hit was on a fetish-fueled baron where I rescued Mochi, and in so doing I activated the sub-class 'Furry friends'. I'm able to assimilate beastkin specific skills if I...claim new girls in my harem, unfortunately it has limitations. It only works with beastkin, but that won't stop me from claiming you every other day or night, Bridget."
Bridget stared at her for three solid seconds, a slow, wicked smile suddenly spread across the shield-maiden's face. She leaned back in her bathrobe, taking a long, deeply satisfied sip of her coffee.
"Well," Bridget purred, her eyes trailing down the crisp lines of Elara’s uniform. "If that's part of the standard laundry-maid clause... I think I'm going to be volunteering for a lot of extra shifts."
"Glad to hear, Bridget," Elara murmured, picking up her polishing cloth once more. "Now, finish your beverage. The laundry tubs are waiting, and your vanguard strength multiplier is required at the scrub-boards."

The extraction from the Upper District border had been a thoroughly miserable, water-logged affair. A sudden torrential downpour had turned the Slums into a soup of thick, black mud, forcing Elara and her pack to navigate the slick rooftops in a driving, icy gale.
When the heavy steel door of the penthouse finally clicked open, the girls filed into the entryway, completely soaked, shivering, and in various states of feral irritation.
Mochi was absolutely furious. Being a cat-kin, the relentless moisture had completely ruined her sleek coat, her furry ears pinned back flat against her skull as she let out a low, venomous hiss at the doorframe. Seline wasn't faring any better; the cold rain had made the emerald serpent-kin deeply lethargic, forcing her to tightly coil her bare, translucent-wrapped torso completely around Elara’s frame, using the Head Maid's steady body heat as a personal radiator.
Fen, however, was the only one who seemed somewhat jovial. With wolf-kin blood coursing through her veins, a bit of wild weather didn't bother her frontline constitution in the slightest.
As she crossed the threshold into the immaculate, purple-tinted foyer, Fen instinctively planted her feet and gave her entire body a violent, high-velocity shake to rid her thick fur of the rain.
Flap-flap-flap-flap-flap!
A heavy spray of muddy, cold street water erupted from her coat, pelting the walls and raining directly down onto a nearby velvet armchair.
"Fen," Elara murmured, her voice a cool, deadpan melody as she stood perfectly upright, entirely unbothered by Seline's heavy weight clinging to her chest. She idly adjusted a damp lace cuff. "Those stains are exceptionally hard to get out of the furniture. As recompense, I'll be docking your evening stamina allowance."
"Worth it," Fen rumbled with a lazy, wicked smirk, her wolf tail giving a damp thud against the wall.
Before Mochi could start snapping at Fen for the spray, the entire pack froze. A strange, completely unusual sound echoed from the depths of the kitchen—a sharp, rhythmic schwap-schwap-schwap of wood hitting wet linen, accompanied by a loud, boisterous human voice aggressively humming a rowdy Upper District tavern song.
Instantly, the playful bickering vanished. The pack's predatory instincts flared to life. Dropping low to the floorboards, weapons half-drawn, Seline uncoiled from Elara’s torso as Mochi and Lyra began a silent, lethal stalk around the corner toward the laundry department, ready to liquidate an intruder.
They rounded the kitchen island, claws extended—only to stop dead in their tracks.
Standing surrounded by four massive, steaming galvanized iron wash-tubs was Bridget. The giant human shield-maiden was wearing nothing but an oversized, fluffy purple bathrobe—the sleeves rolled up past her massive, bicep-rippling shoulders—and a pair of thick wool socks. Her washboard abs flexed aggressively with every downward stroke as she furiously scrubbed a massive pile of love-nectar-stained silk sheets on a heavy wooden board.
When she saw the five dripping-wet, half-naked beastkin creeping around her kitchen with daggers drawn, Bridget didn't blink. She slammed a soaking wet sheet back into the tub with a heavy, sudsy SPLASH and pointed a finger directly at them.
"Don't you dare track that roof mud onto my clean linoleum!" Bridget barked, her voice echoing authoritatively over the steam. "Get your weapons away and get your gear off. I’ve been scrubbing out Seline's scale oils for three hours, and Elara—" She pointed a sudsy finger at the Head Maid, who had just glided into the room. "Whatever chemical compound your... beast releases during a deep-clean has practically bonded with the fabric matrix of these linens. It takes double the agitation to get the starch out!"
A collective, stunned silence hung over the room before Lyra broke into a loud, chaotic giggle. Even Mochi’s ears perked up, her anger melting into sheer amusement as she realized the giant human tank had completely taken over the domestic frontline.
"Your workspace throughput is exceptional, Vanguard," Elara noted deadpan, walking past the tubs to offer a cool, professional nod. "The agitation metric is perfectly calibrated."
Before Bridget could complain about the workload again, a soft, wet thwack echoed against the bottom of the front door.
