CHAPTER 64: UNENDING TIDE OF ABOMINATIONS
Westbridge Academy had long lost all its impeccable grandeur and pristine appearance as a raging battle continued within its confines.
Earthen spikes several meters long drew trenches across the ground. Bodies were nailed down like a morbid sacrifice, as corrupted and beast blood flowed like rivers. The front walls of the school had long crumbled into dust as the battle spilled outside.
-ROAR!
- GRR!
The elite black-crimson war steeds and First Order zombies had long joined the battle, with only the Epic-ranked stallion king and the elite zombies still remaining at the sides in a silent standoff.
A First Order common zombie ran on all fours as it wove around earthen spikes with deft and fluid movements. Long gone were its erratic, mindless and feral movements from before.
The spikes exploded into shards that cut into the surroundings; however, they were unable to harm the creature, the undead having already left them behind, each of its bound sending it almost a hundred meters forward.
It rushed from the side, exploding shards tracing a line across its path. Seeing it could not escape one of the projectiles, it snarled and slashed out one of its massive claws.
Five crimson streaks cut through the air before splitting the approaching spike into pieces. The horned stallion didn't get another chance to unleash an attack, as the zombie arrived at its side.
- BANG!
A wave of the beast's head sent the zombie careening to the side. The stallion neighed as its front limbs rose to the skies.
It was just about to bring its hooves down and charge at the undead when the zombie sent flying landed smoothly on all fours like a cat before lunging forward, a bronze aura rising from its body like raging steam.
The zombie's speed increased significantly, its hulking frame ramming into the steed in a violent collision.
Both massive creatures tumbled across the ground, the zombie's claws raking into the fine coat of the steed. A bronze aura also erupted from the Ruinsteed, alas, its position was already compromised as it was pinned beneath the undead. The zombie gripped the stallion's throat, about to dig into it with its jagged teeth, when a green light flashed by its side.
The next thing it felt was colliding with the ground several times as it tumbled across the war-torn field before smashing into the walls of the girls' dorm with a resounding boom.
Spiderweb cracks spread out from the point of impact as the undead growled while shaking its head. Its vision was blurry, but it could still barely make out the figure of the Epic-ranked Ruinsteed King at the side of its prey.
- GRR!
It shook its head once more, dug itself out of the hole it had made in the wall, and was just about to roar when the Epic-ranked steed disappeared from the distance.
The green light flashing beneath its black hooves increased in intensity, as its over two-meter-high majestic body cut through the battlefield in an instant before appearing in front of the rising zombie like a ghost.
The undead could not even follow its movement as the regal stallion's body twisted, its back limbs rising up.
Two hooves descended with such force that the air screamed.
- BOOOOM!
The head of the zombie down to its torso was wiped out of existence, with its legs still planted on the ground. Behind it, an entire section of the wall was smashed into smithereens, exposing the dark and gloomy hall to the open air.
"AH!"
Screams and cries erupted from within the hall, but fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately for them, the Epic beast had long disappeared from the spot.
It wove through theslaughter field, smashing heads with its hooves and piercing bodies with the horn on its head, the intermingling crimson and green streaks from the mane waving down its back and the light beneath its hooves being the only proof of its existence on the battlefield.
It could no longer remain still with more than half of its kin dead. It rampaged through the horde of zombies, and yet not a drop of blood defiled its majestic black coat.
A zombie and Ruinsteed who were just about to collide heard the sound of cries erupting within the now exposed hall.
Without even a second of hesitation, their bodies turned into blurs as they flew into the hall, the cries of panic coming from within soon turning into pleas for help and anguished shrieks.
At the same time, the elite zombies who had been watching the Epic beast, fidgeted as they roared in anger at the Ruinsteed king mowing their kind down. Yet they didn't move from the spot.
The scene was pure chaos.
Even as more zombies rushed from outside, drawn by the commotion, the Ruinsteeds—with the help of their leader—still stood tall. They assisted their members who needed help, and their combined strength, with the Epic-ranked beast at the spearhead, tore through the battlefield as they approached the restless elite zombies.
If things continued like this, it was clear the Ruinsteeds would emerge victorious in this night event.
Unfortunately, a change came.
Kael's head swiveled upward so fast it looked as if his neck might snap.
- GRRRRRRRRRRRA!
A bellow tore out from the top of the main building. The cry was deep and guttural, with a shocking might contained within that shook the minds of all those who heard it and sent the battle into a lull.
Even the Epic-ranked Ruinsteed King came to a halt, its intelligent eyes flashing with caution.
Yet, even after several seconds, nothing happened.
Until...
The ground beneath them trembled ever so slightly.
The shaking increased in intensity, and just about ten seconds later, it shook to the point it felt as if an earthquake was about to occur.
But of course, that wasn't what happened.
- ROAR!
- SKREEE!
Massive wolves over three meters high and centipede-like abominations that would send children running back to their already fleeing parents, suddenly erupted from the back of the main building, what was left of the walls barricading the school smashed into rubble.
The sight of the pack of wolves and group of centipedes sent a chill down Kael's spine.
The Ruinsteed King quickly released a neigh, the stallions slowly backing away with their eyes fixed on the approaching horrors.
It was then another change occurred.
Currently, aside from the stallion king, only twenty-two Ruinsteeds were still alive.
The corpses of their defiled members suddenly rose from the ground like puppets yanked upward by invisible strings.
Kael's entire focus was so transfixed on the sight that he didn't notice the carnage that was ongoing in the hall.
The ruinsteed and zombie seemed to forget their enmity, as they rampaged through the groups of students like two wolves amidst a flock of sheeps.
Bodies were split into several bodies, heads bitten off, figures crushed into meat paste under black hooves, and cries silenced forever.
In not even ten breath, the shouts of pleas seized like a radio that had been abruptly switched off.
Only then did the two creatures now covered in blood, human blood, turn their attention back on each other.
- GRR!
- NEIGH!
Both bodies collided together, their massive frames blasting through the other side of the building and out into the open.
Before the undead could react, the stallion bit into its neck, and with a disturbing squelching sound, tore its head off.
It huffed, puffs of crimson smokes bellowing out of it's mouth.
Only then did it turn it's attention to the new group of human it sensed.
Ms. Claire, Natalie, Rose and Sophia who still had the yellow chick in her embrace, stood rooted on the ground with widened eyes as they watched the rare-rank Ruinsteed towering several meters above them.
