CHAPTER 60: ELENA’S CRY OF VENGEANCE

Rachel quickly looked around while panting. She was just about to relax when she saw no one was paying her any attention, when her hazel eyes locked with Elena's golden ones from afar.

Her eyes widened, and a look of panic crossed her features. Then, she turned and ran away, in the same direction as Daniel and his group.

Elena took in the entire sight, and she couldn't help but laugh, but what escaped her lips were broken wheezes mixed with painful coughs.

The funniest thing to her wasn't even the reveal of the human hearts she witnessed.

It wasn't even the macabre sight of the zombies feasting on their flesh.

'There are only six of them.'

The thought almost made her laugh once more. Their entire group was being decimated by a group of six zombies, with the highest being only of level 23. And the worst? They were only of the common rank. Yet, they couldn't even muster any form of resistance.

'I thought I was strong.' Her blurry eyes slowly turned vacant, the sound of two of the six zombies approaching her picked up by her enhanced hearing.

Images of a few faces flashed through her mind, as the hand she used to support herself slowly gripped into a fist, pulling sand and rubble along with it.

'It's not enough.' Her blurry eyes gradually came into focus. 'I will grow stronger.'

She slowly rose to her feet, breathing through the pain wracking her body.

"I..." Her lips parted.

The zombies grew closer. One step. Two steps. Just one more step and they would reach her side, when...

"I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!" A scream tore through Elena's throat. She refused to die now. Not before having her revenge. Not before making them experience the worst pain imaginable.

Without a care for those around her any longer, she used the skill she had gotten when she reached level 10.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Another scream erupted from deep within her, but this time, it was different. This one followed the activation of her new skill. A massive sonic wave, visible to the naked eye, shimmered into existence as it spread out from Elena at the center into the surroundings.

The approaching zombies staggered and almost fell, blood leaking from their ears. But the reaction from the others present was even worse.

Many surviving humans screamed in pain as they clutched their skulls, only for their heads to explode into bloody mist.

Principal Martin was still trying his best to save as many as he could, when he also felt the sensation. Without even thinking about it, he instinctively teleported with the rugged boy and three others by his side, leaving the others he had saved behind.

Only when he teleported a short distance away from the immediate battlefield, and deep into the hallway, did he quickly turn to observe the situation.

"No!" He stretched out a hand as he watched all the kids he had saved, and the few still alive, die in one of the most gruesome ways possible.

Heads exploded like fireworks, but this time with blood instead of light streaking through the air.

"How..." A hoarse voice left his lips as he watched the scene with a stiff body.

That was when he caught sight of her.

Elena.

Her beautiful blend of golden and icy-blue hair flew around her, as she screamed out all the emotions she felt.

At the same time, one ice spike after another appeared above her, but as if that was not enough, her telekinesis rolled out of her like a wave, before grasping any object of suitable weight it could manage.

Chipped stones and makeshift weapons flew into the air, together with now almost thirty icy spikes. They revolved around Elena like moons around the earth, the grand sight etching itself into the minds of all those lucky, or perhaps unlucky enough to witness it.

Elena raised her right hand up before smashing it down like she was swinging a hammer.

The whistling sound of the air being split resounded as several spells and weapons cut through the air.

Before any of the disoriented zombies could react, their bodies were split into pieces, their remains frozen into blocks by the residue of Elena's skill.

Elena's voice slowly died down. She lingered for a moment, her body standing tall in the bloody battlefield, as her waving hair settled behind her.

But a moment later, she fell forward, her eyes shutting closed.

The sound of battle outside seemed to return to those still alive, the lights from explosions lighting up the night sky.

Principal Martin snapped his eyes shut, the action sending waves of tears he had been holding back spilling down the sides of his aged face.

He felt a myriad of emotions gushing through his body at that moment.

Anger. Pain. Grief. Remorse. And more.

But he pressed them down. He knew this wasn't the time to succumb to his emotions. They were still in danger. He opened his eyes once more, their wise depths still watery.

"Return."

A single word cut through the minds of those still trying to process what they had witnessed.

They could only turn and rush back to where they had left. But when they saw what the principal did next, many of them showed different reactions.

A strange glint flashed in the eyes of Iris, who was surrounded by three boys. Her eyes, lighting with a mesmerizing pink glow lingered on Elena for a moment, before she heeded the principal's word.

With a bright purple flash, the old man appeared beside Elena's unconscious body. With careful movements, he carried her into his embrace, before disappearing once more.

They had only lasted a short few minutes in this night event.

Yet, almost half of them were dead.

The group retreated with a common thought.

They were tired for the night.
