The Grand Catastrophe

Chapter Eleven: Allies, part three (141)

“Really?” He asked, and Neia could feel the anger rolling from him as if he were made from it, “I had assumed, at the very least, that the demon would honor contracts signed in blood. That was what my father had done. Yet, no, of course she didn’t honor it,” He complained aloud.

“My King,” the Zern started, but was stopped.

“What happens now? After all, my people have nowhere to go. My home is gone, the demoness took everything but my and my father’s life. Now that he is slain, I don’t have a clear path,” he mumbled more than asked.

The room was silent for a little while after he stated this. His voice was clear, and he seemingly had decent morals. Neia couldn’t let go of a certain word though.

“Nowhere else to go? Did your home get destroyed by that demoness?” she asked, and he huffed.

“Yes. We were forced out of hearth and home. My people live underground, and those nests were filled in with clay, and cursed with some kind of demonic magic. We can’t go back. We have no choice but to find a new home. All because of that demon…” he trailed off, suddenly seemingly realizing something.

“You could come to Nazarick,” Shizu pointed out, and Neia nodded her head.

“Is that not the home of the rather frightening undead goddess woman? Would she not eat all of our souls? Is she not a human goddess?” he asked, and Shizu shook her head.

“No,” Neia was the one to point out, “Shizu, the girl besides me, is an automaton. She’s not human but worships Lady Momonga anyway. Also, when I visited Nazarick’s capital and only city, there were other races there. You can send some emissaries before hand, if you want to make sure,” she pointed out, and she plucked him up as he nodded.

“That is true. Yet, I feel as though we should leave. We have been standing here for a little while now,” he said.

Just as he said that, they heard sounds of ruffling feat, and Neia along with the rest of them booked it. She placed the prince in her pack. She then darted to the window, and opened it. After she did so, she shimmied to the side as Shizu dropped a rope down the side of the tower.

They ran throughout the city itself. They had managed to escape the guards. Neia contemplated what the plan was, her mind going a mile a minute. They were to infiltrate the city itself, at the same time, after that grabbed the prince, their forces were to siege the city itself.

It was such a strange thing, as well. They had yet to find any stiff resistance. All the guards were either incompetent, or simply oblivious. Her gut was telling her that she was walking into something. That something was just kind of blank right now, as most traps were.

They had gone from the tower, to a area that looked more like a courtyard of some kind right after grabbing the prince. From there, they went north-ish. Into a hallway they ran, until they managed to make it all the way to the outer walls.

The walls of the hallway, like everything about her home nation, were tall and regal. The windows themselves that led outside showed the moon dipping below its peak. A part of her just wanted to stop and look.

Then, her ears perked up, her mind coming to ahead as she heard them all. She tilted her head as her pace slowed just a tad bit. She could hear over the walls. The sounds of feet clashing against soil. The sounds of angels popping into nothingness. The sounds of dead demi-humans screaming their last war cry.

“Are we close to getting out of here?” asked the king, and she nodded her head.

“I can hear the battle on the other side of the walls taking place. It seems rather fierce,” she said as they then came to a massive courtyard that was seemingly there for training the guards of the city, before it had been sacked.

There, after they left the doorway, a sound unlike the others came to her ears. Her gut screamed at her to dive, so she dived to the left, and landed on her side. She closed her eyes as dust was kicked up.

Neia got to her feat, just as Shizu blocked a strike from a staff that the, what seemed to be Naja. Neia sighed out loud as she looked at the thing. The King wiggled upon her back, and she shifted the straps holding her pack so he could see better.

“Lord Rokesh, I should have known you would be here,” Beebeezee said, and the Naja glared at him.

“Prince of the Zern, how unfortunate that you are rebell-” he started, but was stopped by the extremely annoyed Neia, who was still very tired from the start of the operation.

“{True Channeling}” she seemed to subconsciously cast upon herself, using her faith in her companions power to roll through all the foes that she had fought before.

Now, {True Channeling} was a spell that increased the spellcasting ability and ability to blow through magic resistance. It was a divine spell of the first level, and powered by faith, as one could guess. Yet, why could Neia use it?

Faith, absolute faith and knowledge that she and Shizu could blow through this Naga. Then, they could get home to go to bed together, hopefully naked.

“Get outta my way. I have bed with my Shizu’s name on it to get back to,” she said, and fired her bow.

Her arrows were enchanted by said bow, and hit the Naja right in the neck. Now, normally, Rokesh was very resistant against magic. Right now though with the arrow enhanced by {True Channeling} he was vulnerable to said magic.

He screamed, or tried to, as the arrow blessed his head off. The severed head of the beast flew into the air, and landed with a thump onto the ground. Everyone but Neia stopped what they were doing, with Shizu and the Zern woman that had followed them looking at her. The King of the Zern now though, he was seemingly calculating something in his head with the way he looked at her.

Neia, meanwhile, simply walked over to the dilapidated barracks and opened their doors. Shizu followed closed behind, a smile playing across her lips. The Zern though, who the Author forgot the name of for this entire thing, shook away her shock after a bit, and followed soon after.
