Chapter 20: Goddess and Wrath, part two (95)

“Now, I believe that we have extra things to speak of. For instance, the attack upon my home and people,” Momonga said, and she glanced down at Jircniv.

The man swallowed, the light blush on his cheeks filling in somewhat. She quirked up a brow at this, unsure fully of what was going on in his head. She sighed in her mind after a second or two of thought, the man must still be embarrassed.

“How could we repay this?” He asked upfront, as honest as death itself.

That’s what she liked about him, and that was half the reason why they were going with this plan. He picked up on things quick. Or his mind might just be a bit flushed with emotions. It was one or the other with this one.

“My people need a land that I rule. For when the last dawn breaks, all that is not of my nation shall be cast aside. Sure, I could ask you to promote my religion, yet I feel and know that won’t be enough,” she explained to him, some authoritative part of her mind coming to the forefront.

“You need a land to rule, that is your own,” he finished for her, and nodded his head, “I can give you some land around this area, if that pleases you?” he asked, and tilted his head down in a nod.

“I would take you up on that offer, yet I find that I already have a place the worships me. I know that you and your empire regularly does battle with the kingdom, in the hopes that you will take E-Rantel. I require it. The whole of the city,” she said, and the man nearly paled, but kept up the facade.

Momonga smiled at this, some part of her enjoying his reactions. It was harmless though. She simply thought that it was funny how he nearly blanched at her words. She shook her head in her mind, getting her thoughts back on track. She sighed and leaned back in her throne.

“Can you do that?” she asked simply, and he nodded his head, “then all is well for now. When you next do battle with Re-Estize, my army shall follow. If words cannot be exchanged with them then, we shall do battle and earn the city by right of conquest. Is that fine with you?” she asked.

He nodded his head once more, and spoke. She smiled at his response. That plan was going well, after all. She dearly hoped that he didn’t chicken out at the last second. He seemed rather put out the more they talked. His emotions weren’t this active, last she heard of him. Maybe he was sick? That may have been it.

“That is alright with me. Though, when the battle comes, I expect them to fight you on this. The city of E-Rantel is rather important, after all. I expect them to put up a fight,” he said.

“We shall see,” Momonga simply responded, steepling her fingers.

He smiled at that, though it was forced. Arche, the girl still stood by his side, looked on at all of this and sighed. She didn’t try and hide it, maybe she was simply too mentally tired to? Maybe it was something else? Either way, this did get a big reaction out of the deity.

“Ehahahahahaha! Oh, that’s the funniest reaction out of the lot of you! I was wondering what would happen if this dragged on a bit too long! It reminds me of those days before all of this!” she cackled, and everyone looked at her a little differently.

Her children looked at her, and smiled. They no doubt figured out that she was referring to the rest of Ainz Ooal Gown and its members. Smiles all around. Albedo herself was seemingly putting on a bit of a strained smile. Momonga didn’t right now.

The guests from outside seemingly were unnerved though. The emperor just looked on, a smile barely holding itself to his face. His knights had stiffened, as if she might smite them down. She sighed and let out a bit of tension from her shoulders that had built.

“Excuse me?” Jircniv finally said after a beat.

“It is nothing, Demiurge will go to your capital in one week's time, and discuss the details with you. He is my most trusted ambassador. Now, you are excused, you may leave if you wish. I have things to plan,” she said, and Jircniv nodded his head.

Yet it was then that Fluder spoke up. His tone now hurried, as if he was watching the sands of tome slip away from him. She quirked up a brow at him as he spoke with speed.

“May I ask something of you, My lady?” he asked.

“Sure?” she answered.

“If I may be frank, how did you become undead? From what I have studied, you were not always a goddess. So, If I may be so rude, how did you become a like you are now?” he asked.

She thought about how to answer. For a solid minute, she stared into the wide eyes of the old man. Her mind trying to come up with a explanation for how she became undead, and after that, how to deny his request. The NPCs had been so shocked that they didn’t know how to respond themselves.

Then, she came to an answer. Her actual lore that she had written in her flavor text for her avatar. That was the key.

“One day, when I was mortal, I wanted to live forever. So, I read the, “Book of The Dead,” and modified it to transfer my mind and soul to a skeleton. That somewhat succeeded. Only I didn’t know that the skeleton would regain flesh, or that it was a woman’s. Then, I was like this. Does that answer your question?” she told him, and he kneeled in gratitude.

“Yes it does. Thank you very much,” he said, and stood. His mind seemingly thinking a mile a minute now.

After a second or two, the group from the Empire walked out of the space. Momonga smiled a genuine smile, and looked to the NPCs, who had calmed down. She then opened her mouth to speak.

“We scared them shitless, didn’t we?” Momonga announced.
