Chapter 16: Dinner, part two (83)
…
Enri looked at the plate in front in front of herself. She was currently in a guest room of the 41 Supreme Beings. The food in front of her was fit for a god or goddess to eat, let alone her.
The room itself reminded her of the office space that she had been in before. Except this time, the table was larger. The room was also much smaller this time. The ceiling was lower down, the walls weren’t as wide. There wasn’t a desk either.
She looked back down at the food in front of her after a beat. This food was much better than what she had expected. In fact, she hadn’t even expected that the goddess that she worships would dine with her in actuality.
She grabbed one of the forks in her hands, and a knife in the other. These tools were made of metals that she would never even know the names of. Yet, she still dug in.
The first thing that had been stacked on her plate was a steak, a steak made from some kind of frost dragon. The thought was a weird one, but then again this whole thing was strange. The other foods that were placed upon her plate included things such as, “Death snow crab rolls,” “Stuffed Asgardian peppers,” and “Asgardian rolled egg omelets.”
She hadn’t the faintest idea as to what a, “Asgardian,” was. Yet she was fairly certain that it was a nation or a nationality now. Maybe it was near where Lady Momonga used to live? That could be it.
Nfirea sat in front of her, digging into his own food. It was fairly good, from what she saw of his reactions. In fact, he seemed to really like it. Nemu, her sister, sat besides Lady Momonga, asking her all sorts of questions.
As she herself ate, noting that this food was objectively the best food that she had ever eaten, she wondered what the rest of the day was going to lead to. After all, she hadn’t really planned it herself.
Lady Momonga had. She had seemingly taken a liking to Nemu, the little bundle of joy. Right now, as she watched them talk, she wondered why that was. After all, was Nemu was the first person to ask her questions of her comrades in earnest?
“Who was this Surtr guy?” Nemu asked the goddess.
“He was the greatest of the Fire Giants!” Momonga started, “He was one of the first living beings, and he was destined to slay the gods that ruled over a land known as Asgard and Midgard. He also ruled over the land of Muspelheim.”
She took a swig from her wine glass. The golden liquid glittered on the inside like sunlight. Nemu, after a second or two, dug into her food more. She had already eaten most of it, the only bit that she hadn’t finished yet was the omelet.
After she was done with her glass, and Nemu was done with her food, Enri helped her pile on more food on her plate. The little girl was simply too excited to think about anything other than the stories that Momonga had. It was a wonder why she hadn’t asked before.
“Muspelheim is one of the two original realms, or lands, of the universe. He ruled over this place, as I said, and with his great flaming sword was destined to cover the world in flame. Yet, my friends and I slew him. He was a great and powerful foe,” he told Nemu, and the girl simply leaned forward in her seat.
“What gods are you talking about?” Nfirea asked, tilting his head.
“Oh, I mean the Aesir. They were the pantheon that the humans of Midgard worshipped. Of course, there were many pantheons and gods. My friend, “Aurellia Solia,” was the Asgardian Daughter of Sol, the Romon god of the sun,” she said, and took a sip from her glass that she had refilled.
“I didn’t see her in the scripts,” Nfirea said while raising a brow.
“No, she wasn’t a part of our group back then. She herself ran around with, and adventured with her good friend whom I suspect was her girlfriend, “Ophelia.” She was a strange one, that Aurellia. She was obsessed with the sun. She would stand under it, and pray in her strange way while wearing her golden mask. She was weird,” she took another sip of her wine.’
“What about Surtr?” Nemu asked, and Momonga nodded her head.
The rest of the dinner went on like this. The three of them simply asked Lady Momonga a multitude of things, and she answered. Most of the time, it was Nemu who asked her questions.
Yet, as the day wore on, the food dwindled. Sooner rather than later, all the food on the table was gone. They had eaten most of it. Lady Momonga had simply abstained from most of the food. She did eat, but very little. She watched them eat, gaining satisfaction from it instead of the food itself.
…
“Okay,” Momonga said, her tone light and happy after she had shown the three of them the ninth floor.
In her arm’s crook was Nemu, she was carrying the girl. The little one had become infatuated with the idea of the adventures and of the adventures themselves, of her past friends. It was rather nice to simply speak about her old friends.
“Now, it’s about three in the afternoon. We can actually go to the baths. My friends and I worked rather hard on them. I want to know what you all think,” she said, and went to move to them.
The two others, Enri and Nfirea, followed closely after her, to embarrassed by the idea of the baths to actually deny the idea. She smiled as she walked along, enjoying the silence of the hall as she did so. Nemu looked ahead, red slightly on her cheeks.
Momonga giggled at this, and poked her left cheek with her finger. The girl blushed some more, and turned to look at Momonga. A serious look covered her face, and Momonga’s smile became tamer.
She kind of wanted a kid now, as weird as that was to say. Aura and Mare would have to suffice. They were young enough to dote on, anyway. She tilted her head to the side as she asked her a question.
“Little one, what’s the matter?” she asked.
“Enri and Nfirea haven’t kissed yet, it makes me mad,” she said simply, as the child that she was would.
“Oh? Do they like each other?” she asked, and she heard a sputter of something from behind her.
“Yeah! They look at each other like how mommy and daddy used to look at each other! They haven’t kissed yet! They haven’t even talked to each other about it! It makes me mad,” she said again.
“I get it, that kind of thing can be hard to watch,” Momonga said simply, then turned to the two young adults, “why don’t you two each just spend some time together? You can consider it a date or anything else really. Just talk,” she told them, and they looked away from each other in embarrassment.
Then, Nfirea looked up. He turned to Enri, and took a step towards her. She didn’t even notice, as she was looking bashfully away from the rest of them. He got closer to her, and placed a hand around her hip.
She jolted slightly at this, and turned to look at him. Their eyes met, and he placed a hand under her chin. She shivered under his touch, in a way that Momonga felt wasn’t safe for kids to look at.
“Enri Emmot, my friend throughout all my life, will you marry me?” he asked, completely derailing Momonga’s mind.
Enri stood there, stunned. She nearly fell backwards, but Nfirea caught her. She looked down at the hand on her hip, and back up at him with eyes filled with something that shouldn’t be described when a child was present. They had forgotten that they were there, didn’t they?
“Yes,” she said simply, and kissed him.
As they started to make love in the middle of her hallway, she sighed and set Nemu down on the floor. The girl simply looked at what the two lovebirds were doing. Momonga then clapped her hands hard together.
This jolted the tow of them out of their lovemaking. Momonga peered at the two of them, before speaking her own mind. they really shouldn’t have started doing that in her hallway.
“Could you two do that later, when a child isn’t present. Nor could you two do it in my hallway?” she asked, and they looked at their feet, embarrassed.
