Chapter 55: The Morning After
Trishelle
I awoke as the sun peeked through the curtains, its gentle rays pulling me from peaceful darkness. For the first time in weeks, I hadn’t dreamt of James - not his cold eyes, not his chilling voice. There was nothing. Just quiet. Groggily sitting up, I stretched, and a satisfied ache announced itself in every muscle. "Ouch," I mumbled, though a small smile played on my lips. Raising the sheets, I saw the reason - or should I say reasons - why my body protested. I knew Bradley had held back from marking my neck, a testament to his incredible control, but he had more than compensated by marking everywhere else.
Heat flooded my cheeks as I began counting the love bites and bruises scattered across my skin. They formed a constellation of his passion - across my breasts, my belly, the soft skin of my inner thighs, and my sides. I wouldn’t have been surprised to find some on my back. They were his, a temporary brand that screamed I was taken. That I was his.
Yawning, I swung my legs out of bed and nearly crumpled to the ground. My squeak of surprise jolted Bradley awake. He shot upright, reaching out to me. In a single, fluid motion, he pulled me back against his chest, snuggling his face into the crook of my neck and placing soft, sleepy kisses on my shoulder.
"Where are you running off to, mate?" His voice was a low, gravelly rumble against my skin. His wolf was clearly ready for round number one hundred and eight, but I didn’t think my body could handle any more. Not yet, anyway.
"I need to use the bathroom," I whispered, my voice hoarse. "But somebody seems to have made my legs numb."
A slow, sheepish grin spread across his face. "Sorry," he replied, though he didn’t sound sorry at all. In fact, he looked rather pleased with himself.
I shook my head, leaning in to give him a kiss on his cheek. "I’m not. I just really, really need to pee."
With a chuckle, Bradley threw off the covers and scooped me up in his arms. He strode into his bathroom, which was almost the same size as his bedroom - all dark stone and gleaming fixtures that spoke of understated luxury. He gently placed me on the toilet. "Is there anything else you need?"
My stomach rumbled in response, and we both laughed. "I guess breakfast would be a good place to start."
He kissed my forehead, his lips warm and soft, before starting to fill the massive tub. The water roared into it with impressive force. "I’ll go order breakfast to be brought up."
I used the toilet, then washed my hands and brushed my teeth with one of the new toothbrushes I found in the cabinet next to the sink. The simple domesticity of it all made my heart swell. I checked the temperature of the water filling the tub. It was so large I was sure that at least six alphas could fit in it with room to spare. I began looking for the bath salts and came across Bradley’s collection of his favorite scents - sandalwood, pine, and something darker, like stormy rain. I inhaled the scent of the sandalwood, and the events of last night replayed in my mind, causing me to blush all over again. The memories were vivid, intoxicating.
As I turned, I caught my reflection in the full-length mirror on the back of the door, and a small gasp left my lips.
Reflected back was a woman who had been thoroughly, completely ravished. Evidence of Bradley’s possessive desire marked every inch of her body. The bruises were dark against my pale skin, a map of our night together. Except for my neck. It was the only pristine canvas left. I knew it had taken every ounce of his incredible strength not to claim me last night, not to sink his teeth into that sensitive skin and make our bond unbreakable. The restraint that must have required... I couldn’t even imagine.
A part of me felt just a tiny bit sad at that - a primal part that craved the finality of his mark. But mostly, I felt a wave of love and awe so powerful it almost brought me to my knees. He cared so much about me, and about the pup that wasn’t even his own, that he would risk that kind of pain for us. I actually didn’t realize it until this very moment, but I had been scared. Terrified, even. I was afraid that when he returned, he might have decided not to be with me anymore. I feared the time spent apart would have made him realize he could choose another mate, a true mate, and preserve his bloodline without all this danger. Without all this complication.
Yet to think - no, to *know* - that wasn’t the case made a wave of butterflies course through me. My hand drifted to my stomach, where our pup grew, safe and protected.
"I love him," I mumbled to my reflection, my voice barely audible. How could I not? "I love Bradley."
The sound of something crashing to the ground caused me to spin around. Bradley stood at the bathroom door, a tray with a glass of orange juice shattered at his feet. His eyes were wide, locked on me with an intensity that stole my breath.
"Say it again," he demanded, his voice raw with emotion.
I felt my whole body flush in embarrassment. Oh, why did he have to turn up at that very moment? In a few large strides, he was standing in front of me, excitement and a desperate kind of hope filling his mesmerizing amber eyes. The vulnerability in his expression made my heart ache.
"Say it again, please," he begged, his voice softer now, almost breaking.
Swallowing the knot of emotion in my throat, I squared my shoulders. Looking directly into his eyes, I answered. "I, Trishelle Thornwood," I said, using the name he knew me by, "even though that’s not my real name, do declare that I love Alpha Bradley Goldstone with all my heart." My voice grew stronger with each word, more certain. "With everything I am."
Bradley
Bradley was stunned for a few seconds as he let the words sink in, as he let them wash over the wounds of his own insecurities. He’d waited so long to hear those words. Hoped for them. Dreamed of them. Then, with a triumphant holler, he swept Trishelle up in his arms and twirled her around the bathroom, her laughter echoing off the tile walls like music.
"Yes, yes, yes," he shouted, pure joy radiating from him. Placing her gently on her feet, he leaned in and gave her a toe-curling, heart-pounding, soul-burning kiss. "I love you, Trishelle Thornwood," he murmured against her lips, "soon to be Goldstone."
Before she could think, he dropped to his knees, pressing his lips to her stomach, which was now just starting to round out with the promise of their future. "Did you hear that, my pup? Mommy said that she loves me. Isn’t that the best thing in the world? Now, you have to be my witness, okay?" He planted one more soft kiss on her belly, his hand gently caressing the slight curve. The thought of becoming a father - a real father - filled him with a fierce protectiveness he’d never known before. Looking up at her, he knew that what she felt was real, just by the way she looked at him - with a trust and love that humbled him to his core.
That look gave him an idea, and before she could register the wicked smirk spreading across his face, he hooked one leg over his shoulder.
That move gave Trishelle a pretty good clue as to what was next, and she squirmed. "No, Bradley, I haven’t showered yet."
All he did was tighten his grip on her waist and whisper against her core, "Stop moving or you’ll slip." The heat of his breath on her most sensitive area caused a chill to roll over her skin. He stretched out his tongue and took a long, slow lick. He could still taste her cream and even the faint, salty traces of himself from the night before. The memories of how he filled her to the brim last night, again and again, made his cock stand to immediate, painful attention, but now was a time for her. For her pleasure alone.
Using his lips and tongue, he took her to the edge over and over but denied her the release she so desperately needed. Bradley chuckled as her grip on his hair tightened, and she began rubbing herself against his face, searching, begging to be put out of the delicious torture. He chuckled again, and the vibrations from his chest pushed her to the edge once more.
"Please, Bradley, please..." she begged, her voice a breathy whine that went straight to his groin.
He paused and blew a stream of cool air on her swollen mound, causing her legs to quiver. "Just tell me what you want."
Trishelle looked down at him, her eyes filled with so much lust and desire that he almost burst right then and there. "You know what I want. Please," she whined, trying to find the release herself by grinding against his mouth.
Bradley shook his head, his voice firm, commanding. "Say it." He demanded, looking deep into her eyes. The commanding tone in his voice spoke to the omega trait in her, and she willingly surrendered to it.
"I want to come," she paused, then added, her voice dropping to a shy whisper, "Daddy."
Bradley inhaled sharply, having no idea that hearing that single word would turn him on to a whole new level. The primal satisfaction it brought was overwhelming. With a guttural groan, he buried his face between her thighs again and began assaulting her sensitive nub with a new, desperate vigor. At the same time, one hand began stroking his own aching member, knowing that both their releases were close at hand. It only took a few masterful strokes of his tongue and hand for both of them to scream in pleasure. His release shot out across the bathroom floor, and hers filled his mouth and ran down her thighs.
She collapsed in his arms, and they both lay panting on the heated floor. When their breathing was closer to normal, Trishelle raised her head. A smile was on Bradley’s face, and she knew that no matter what might come, they would face it as a team. Together. Always together.
The thought settled deep inside me, a warm, steady glow that pushed back the last of the shadows. Bradley’s arms were wrapped around me, his body a solid, comforting weight against my side. The floor was hard, but I didn’t feel it. All I could feel was him. His heartbeat, a steady drum against my ear, his scent - pine, soap, and something uniquely Bradley - filling my lungs, and the possessive way his hand rested on my hip, claiming me even in his sleep. Or what I thought was sleep.
A soft knock echoed from the bedroom door, followed by a muffled, "Alpha? Luna? I have your breakfast."
My cheeks heated. Of course. He’d ordered food. I gently tried to wiggle out from under Bradley’s arm, but his grip tightened, and a low growl rumbled in his chest, even in his sleep. "Mine," he mumbled, his face burrowing into my hair.
I couldn’t help but smile at his possessiveness. "Bradley," I whispered, stroking his cheek. "Wake up. Breakfast is here."
His eyes fluttered open, still hazy with sleep and satisfaction. He blinked, focusing on me, and a slow, lazy grin spread across his face. "Morning, mate." He leaned in for a kiss, a deep, thorough one that tasted of us and of a new beginning. The knock came again, a little louder this time, more insistent.
With a sigh, Bradley pushed himself up, running a hand through his messy hair. He looked down at the mess on the floor - the shattered glass, the sticky puddle of orange juice, and our discarded clothes from last night. A flicker of something - embarrassment, maybe - crossed his face before it was replaced by amusement. "Well," he said, his voice still rough from sleep and exertion. "We made a bit of a mess."
He stood up, not bothering to cover his naked body as he strode to the door. His confidence was absolute, unshakeable. I quickly grabbed the fluffy bathrobe hanging on a nearby hook and wrapped it around myself, tying the belt tight. He opened the door just a crack, his deep voice murmuring to the person on the other side. A moment later, he took a large tray from them and closed the door, kicking the broken glass aside with his bare foot.
He set the tray on a small table near the window. "Come eat," he said, holding out a hand to me. "You need to keep your strength up. Both of you." His eyes dropped to my stomach with such tenderness it made my throat tight.
The sight of the food - pancakes, bacon, eggs, and fresh fruit - made my stomach rumble again. I sat down, and Bradley placed a plate in front of me, piling it high before he even served himself. The gesture was small, but it spoke volumes about his care for me. We ate in a comfortable silence, the morning sun streaming through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. It was normal. It was domestic. It was everything I had secretly craved and never thought I’d have. This simple moment felt more precious than gold.
"So," I said, breaking the quiet. "The mating ceremony."
Bradley paused, a piece of bacon halfway to his mouth. He set it down, his expression turning serious. "Yeah. My aunt is getting things started on her end. I need to call the pack elders, let them know what’s happening." He reached across the table and took my hand, his thumb stroking my knuckles in a soothing rhythm. "I also need to tell them everything, Trish. About James. About the pup. About the danger."
I nodded, my appetite suddenly gone. The reality of what we faced came crashing back. "I know. It’s the right thing to do." Even if it terrified me.
"Sam is already on his way back with Gamma Jack. Jack will be your personal security detail from now on. He’s one of the best. No one will get to you without going through him, and then me." The steel in his voice left no room for doubt.
The weight of it all settled back on my shoulders, but it wasn’t as heavy as it had been. I wasn’t carrying it alone anymore. "Okay," I said softly. "What do I need to do?"
"Just be you," Bradley said, his voice firm with conviction. "Stand by my side. Let them see the strong, incredible woman I see. Let them see their Luna." The pride in his eyes made me believe, for the first time, that I could actually do this.
After they ate, Bradley drew Trishelle a bath, helping her into the steaming water before joining her. He washed her hair, his fingers massaging her scalp with infinite care, and soaped her body, his touch reverent. He took his time, memorizing every curve, every mark he’d left on her skin. It was a quiet intimacy, a healing balm after the frantic passion of the night before. These moments, he thought, were just as important as the passionate ones. Maybe more so.
Once they were dressed, he sat her down on the edge of the bed. "I have to make some calls," he said, his tone all business. "But first, there’s something I want to give you."
He walked to his closet and returned with a small, velvet box. He opened it, and inside, nestled on a bed of black silk, was a delicate silver necklace. At the center of the chain was a small, intricately carved wolf’s head, its eyes made of tiny, brilliant amber stones that caught the light.
"It’s a protection charm," he said, lifting it from the box with careful hands. "My mother’s. My father gave it to her when they mated. I want you to have it." His voice grew thick with emotion. "She would have loved you, you know. She would have been so proud to call you daughter."
Tears welled in my eyes as he fastened the clasp behind my neck. The cool metal rested against my skin, a comforting weight. "It’s beautiful," I whispered, my fingers tracing the delicate wolf. "Thank you. I’ll treasure it always."
He kissed my forehead, his lips lingering. "Now, let’s get this done."
He made his calls from his office, and I sat on the sofa, just listening. He spoke to each of the five elders, his voice calm but unwavering as he explained the situation. He didn’t sugarcoat it. He told them about my true identity, about my escape from James, about the pup I carried. He told them about the risks, about the possibility of James coming for me, for them. And then he told them about our plan to mate, to make me their Luna, to stand united against any threat. His voice never wavered, never showed doubt. He was every inch the Alpha.
To their credit, not one of them questioned his decision. There were moments of silence, low murmurs on the other end of the line, but in the end, each one pledged their loyalty. Not just to him, but to me. To us. I could hear the respect in their voices, even through the phone.
When he hung up after the last call, he looked exhausted, but a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The tension that had been coiled in his body since we’d started this conversation finally released. He came and sat next to me, pulling me into his arms.
"It’s done," he said, resting his chin on my head. "They’re with us. The whole pack is with us."
I tilted my head back to look at him. "I was so scared," I admitted, my voice barely a whisper. "Scared they would reject me. That they would see me as a liability. As a threat to the pack’s safety."
"They see you as my heart," he corrected gently, his amber eyes soft. "As their future Luna. As the mother of the next generation of Goldstones. They see strength, Trish. They see a survivor. They see someone worth protecting."
His words filled a part of me that had been empty for so long. I wasn’t just an omega on the run. I wasn’t just a victim. I was his mate. I was their Luna. And for the first time, I truly believed it. The truth of it settled into my bones, solid and unshakeable.
"Thank you," I said, my voice thick with emotion. "For everything. For believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself."
"Always," he promised, his amber eyes burning with a fierce, protective light. "Now, let’s go meet your new guard."
