Indeed, this area wasn’t particularly crowded. The street lay mostly empty, with only a few dim streetlights flickering weakly, casting long, stretched shadows across the cracked asphalt.
Even so… this was Queens. A few tall buildings still stood not far from here, rising silently into the night, their windows dark, yet not completely devoid of life.
Anyone could notice or hear the disturbance—perhaps unintentionally—just by pulling back a curtain or glancing out a window at the wrong moment.

The thought felt absurd, yet oddly reasonable in an era like this. Ah… right.

I let out a slow breath, trying to steady my thoughts that had briefly tensed, holding back the urge to move recklessly without a plan.
The night air felt cold against my skin, seeping in gradually, while a faint breeze drifted through the empty street, carrying with it the scent of dust and lingering smoke still hanging in the air.
In the distance, the sounds of the city echoed faintly—car horns, footsteps, fragments of conversation—like they belonged to another world entirely, separate from the chaos unfolding here.
But just as my mind began to settle, a strange sensation suddenly emerged—subtle, almost imperceptible at first, yet strong enough to slowly disrupt my focus. It felt as though something was quietly watching me from an unseen corner.
That feeling made me instinctively lift my gaze upward, toward a tall building across the street.
More specifically… toward the rooftop, shrouded in darkness and barely visible from below, hidden beneath shadows and scarce light.
There, atop one of the buildings, two figures stood in silence.
They didn’t move. They didn’t speak. They simply stood there, observing the battle below with a composure that felt too calm, too controlled for someone who was merely passing by or just an ordinary spectator.
Their silhouettes were faint, nearly blending into the night, only occasionally revealed when the city lights reflected subtly along the outline of their forms—creating incomplete shadows, yet enough to confirm their presence.
Even so, their existence was unmistakable. It felt like a quiet pressure pressing against my awareness, triggering my instincts without any clear reason.
They were definitely not ordinary people.
I narrowed my eyes, trying to catch even the smallest detail from such a distance, forcing my vision to work harder than usual, hoping to find the slightest clue that could reveal who they truly were.
I began to wonder—who exactly were those two? Were they part of the government?
Secret agents sent to observe the situation from a distance, waiting for the right moment to intervene?
Or perhaps… other vampires, waiting for the perfect opportunity to interfere, choosing a high vantage point so they could watch without being detected?
Even so, there was another possibility—one where they might be mutants.
The thoughts spun rapidly in my head, one possibility after another surfacing without pause, each carrying different consequences, making an already complicated situation even harder to predict.
If they were agents, then things could develop into something far more complex than what it currently seemed.
If they were vampires, then this could turn into an ambush far more dangerous than I had anticipated.
But if they were truly mutants… then everything became even more uncertain, because their abilities could easily be beyond my expectations.
This situation… was far more interesting than I had initially thought—and also far more complicated than I first assumed.
“Hm…” I muttered softly, almost inaudible, before shifting my gaze back to the ongoing fight, still unfolding intensely. Then I glanced again toward the two figures on the rooftop, trying to read the situation as carefully as possible while preparing for the worst.
I weighed every possibility that surfaced in my mind, letting my thoughts move rapidly from one assumption to another without ever truly stopping, like an unstoppable current.
Each guess felt convincing for a moment, only to be replaced by another possibility just as dangerous.
“Ah?”
Suddenly, a notification appeared in front of me—bright and striking against the darkness of the night, like a flash of light that forced attention toward it.
The glow contrasted sharply with the dim surroundings, cutting through my train of thought without mercy, halting all the speculation that had been swirling in my head, as the Spider-Man System presented me with a completely unexpected mission.

“Damn… rewards like this are seriously ridiculous.” I muttered under my breath, my voice muffled beneath the White Spider-Man mask covering my face, sounding heavier and slightly strained, as if the words were forced out unwillingly.
Even though my expression was completely hidden behind the mask, my shock was still evident from the slight pause in my breathing, as well as the way I stared at the notification without blinking, scanning each line repeatedly, trying to make sure I hadn’t misread the numbers and descriptions displayed there.
“What’s with you, Spider-Man System…?” I muttered again, this time with a more noticeable hint of suspicion, my brows slightly furrowed beneath the mask.
That suspicion didn’t appear out of nowhere—it grew gradually, like something that had felt off from the beginning but was only now becoming truly clear.
“Have you… become smarter?”
For a moment, there was only the sound of the night wind brushing between the tall buildings, slipping through narrow gaps and creating a faint, repeating whisper that was hard to grasp.
The silence felt longer than usual, as if time itself had slowed to make room for the tension that was beginning to form—before the system finally responded.
