Chapter 203
Chapter 203: Beating Up His Wife's Big Sister
Kavra's seemingly slender body crashed hard into the ground.
The impact was so forceful that the very floor trembled from the blow.
The other Demon Hunters couldn't help but look away, pulling their heads back, not daring to look at Kavra again.
Brutal. It was, truly, far too brutal.
"Cough... cough."
The dust gradually settled. Kavra lay on the ground, coughing softly a couple of times.
The injuries weren't particularly severe—at least she could still move.
She just felt that her breathing had become a little constrained.
Kavra's eyes flicked toward Viktor with a look of reluctant defiance.
"Don't you know how to go easy on a woman?"
Viktor kept his hands in his pockets, expression blank as he looked at her.
"I gave you a chance."
"Unfortunately, you didn't win."
Kavra rocked her body, struggling arduously to push herself up off the ground, then sat down cross-legged.
That throw from Viktor just now had made her feel as though her lungs had been shifted a few inches out of place.
She rubbed her chest gently, trying to ease the discomfort.
Fortunately, Demon Hunters had exceptional recovery.
Kavra propped both hands on the ground, leaning slightly back, showing off her lean, powerful frame.
"Phew—ha, that was actually a satisfying fight."
There was a hint of wild satisfaction in her voice, as though the battle just now had been a long-missed indulgence.
Although Kavra hadn't used her full strength, she understood clearly that her brother-in-law hadn't used his 'full strength' either.
And moreover, their respective 'full strengths' weren't quite the same thing.
After all, Viktor's true vocation was as a Mage.
At this point, Viktor slowly bent down and picked up her dagger.
The silver-white dagger was gripped firmly in Viktor's hand.
Kavra stared at him in a daze—then watched as Viktor took the dagger and drew a cut across his own palm.
Her gaze locked onto him, not daring to miss a single detail.
Drip—drop—
Vivid red blood gradually fell, trickling onto the ground.
Under his remarkable recovery ability, the wound had already closed completely.
Kavra murmured:
"What an astonishing recovery."
"Viktor, you actually became a Mage instead of a Warrior—what a waste of nat..."
She had been about to say Viktor was wasting his talent, but she stopped herself mid-thought, recalling that this man was the youngest 4th-Tier Mage in existence.
She shut her mouth immediately.
All she could say was—this is what a genius looks like.
Even if he was a Mage.
His power was such that no one would ever think of him as just a Mage.
And Kavra and all the Demon Hunters present understood clearly what Viktor was doing.
Verification.
A Demon Hunter's weapons were crafted from special materials.
If Viktor truly had a demon on him, all it took was a cut through flesh and blood to verify it.
A demon's blood would be absorbed by the dagger, while an ordinary person's would not.
This was precisely why the Demon Hunters had gone through such tremendous effort just to land a cut on Viktor.
And Viktor had picked up the dagger himself, proactively cut open his own flesh, and presented the verification to her.
There was no demon on him.
It was a straightforward method of verification. If Kavra had wanted to, she could have simply scraped the Second Prince with a weapon right there in the Northern Frontier to check whether a demon was on him.
But she couldn't.
She couldn't do that to the Second Prince.
At least not in the Northern Frontier, not on the Delin Family's own grounds.
So she had let Owaise return to the Royal Capital.
"I'm glad I don't have to be your enemy, Viktor."
As Kavra spoke, she glanced at the black crystal pendant on Viktor's chest.
She narrowed her eyes, a natural, unhurried smile curving her lips.
Regardless of whether Viktor was in league with a demon or not, Kavra had prepared for both outcomes.
If he truly had a demon possessing him, the pendant would strip him of that demon's power.
If Kavra had wrongly suspected Viktor—as was the case now, with Viktor having verified himself—then the pendant would serve as her compensation.
"After all, I handed my life over to you."
Hearing this, Viktor cast a sidelong glance at Kavra.
A Demon Hunter's recovery ability was nothing short of extraordinary. In this short span of time, she had already made a full recovery.
She stretched out comfortably.
After fighting Viktor, Kavra felt completely refreshed.
Even the 2 Demon Hunters who had been thoroughly beaten by Viktor had made a complete recovery by now.
They stood in formation behind Kavra, awaiting orders.
Having taken a good beating, with her skin itching for more, Kavra crooked a finger toward Viktor's chin and looked at him with a bright smile.
"Hey hey, Viktor—don't go back just yet."
"Tonight, care to play an interesting game with Big Sis?"
Viktor didn't humor her. He simply pulled out the pendant from inside his coat.
"You Demon Hunters have an operation tonight, don't you."
Kavra froze. The words 'how did you know' almost slipped right out of her mouth, but she managed to clamp it shut just in time.
Still, her reaction had already amounted to a tacit confirmation.
Viktor simply held the pendant and said flatly:
"This thing of yours, it can detect whether a demon's presence lurks nearby."
"I know—when you had Leah pass this on to me, you had already begun to suspect me."
The black crystal pendant glittered and gleamed in the candlelight all around.
Kavra looked at the pendant in Viktor's hand and said nothing.
As for why Viktor would guess this?
Because Viktor genuinely kept a Primordial Demon at home.
"Barring any surprises."
Viktor said slowly, eyes gradually narrowing as they fixed on Kavra.
"Your Demon Hunters have already launched their operation, and what's more..."
"The area around my home has already been marked within your perimeter."
At those words, Kavra's gaze shifted slightly, a flicker of unease and something more complicated passing through it.
"Viktor, I..."
"If you wanted to give it to me, you could have brought it directly to me this morning."
Viktor held up the pendant and swayed it gently.
"But you sent it to Leah instead, and had Leah pass it along to me."
"A full night's time—more than enough for it to detect a demon's presence."
Viktor then tucked the black crystal pendant away again, pressing it against his chest.
Kavra looked at him, a quiet surprise stirring inside her.
She hadn't expected Viktor to know all of this.
The feeling it gave her...
Was almost as if he had once been a Demon Hunter himself.
But that was impossible.
Once someone had been a Demon Hunter, they could never become a Mage.
"You didn't bring me here only to verify me yourself."
"You also wanted your teammates to go investigate."
"Whether a demon is truly hiding around my home—am I right."
In just a few words, Viktor had pierced straight through every one of her plans.
Kavra couldn't believe it.
She stared blankly at Viktor, mouth opening slightly.
"I... I don't want to harm you..."
"I know, of course. Otherwise you wouldn't have handed your life over to me."
His gaze was calm and indifferent, like a narrator recounting someone else's story, unbothered by anything around him.
But just then, a mysterious force surged suddenly forth. Countless flowers burst through the rock, growing at a rapid pace.
The flowers bloomed in every color imaginable, their brilliant petals radiating bright light, surrounding Kavra completely.
The Demon Hunters stared in stunned disbelief at the scene before them. They felt a dangerous aura and unease welled up in their hearts.
Soon, that unease became reality.
The buds burst open all at once, and strangely-colored pollen was scattered by a gentle breeze, releasing an enchanting fragrance.
The Demon Hunters who were unfortunate enough to come into contact with the pollen felt an overwhelming wave of drowsiness wash over them.
No longer able to control their bodies, they slumped helplessly to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.
Only Kavra remained, still conscious, standing where she was.
She looked at Viktor in astonishment, disbelief flickering visibly in her eyes.
"The moment you handed the pendant to Leah, I could have hidden the demon away in advance."
"But I didn't."
Kavra's mind reeled sharply, as if she had heard something utterly beyond belief.
With those words, Viktor had laid his cards on the table.
He had exposed himself—confirming that he truly did have a connection to demons.
"You... really..."
Was he really in league with a demon?
She stared blankly at Viktor, and all she heard was Viktor's voice returning to her, flat and unhurried.
"Of course not—because you've gotten one key point wrong."
Viktor's hands returned to his pockets as he turned to face Kavra directly.
"I am indeed not in league with any demon."
"Because they aren't worthy."
Those arrogant, indifferent words fell like a terrifying presence—like a demon carrying a dreadful aura—draping itself over Viktor and swallowing the entire space in an instant.
A sense of dread spread through the air, sending a chill through everything.
In that moment, Kavra stood frozen, staring at Viktor—as though she could see the ferocious phantom behind him, trembling with barely-contained fury, its gaze fixed directly on her.
"I have never needed a demon to elevate myself."
Viktor slowly extended one hand, palm gradually opening.
In his palm, 3 differently-colored magatama spun ceaselessly, radiating a captivating, otherworldly brilliance.
The 3 magatama seemed to be wrapped in a dense, concentrated Magic Power, forming 3 swirling masses of energy that emanated the aura of Calamity.
Viktor closed his fist and squeezed hard.
As though something had been crushed, a staggering surge of Magic Power erupted—vast as an ocean.
The terrifying force condensed into something tangible. Lush green trees burst through the rock, growing rapidly throughout the enormous cave.
The moment the great trees had fully grown, lava-red fire began flowing through their trunks, the vivid flames igniting every branch and leaf, illuminating everything around them completely.
Wild winds surged; lava churned endlessly beneath the roots; the flames began to dance along with the storm.
The overwhelming pressure bore down on Kavra. Her mind nearly ground to a halt for a few seconds, and she strained against the shock that threatened to sweep her away, managing with great difficulty to step back a few paces.
But she still held onto the one question she hadn't let go of.
"Then... the demon you mentioned—what is that about?"
"A demon?"
Viktor withdrew his hand, returning it to his pocket.
His face was calm as still water, yet it carried an air of fathomless mystery.
That terrifying, world-ending vision—as if snuffed out at the source—came to an abrupt halt, falling into complete silence.
Only a calm voice remained, and yet it carried an impression of boundless, unshakeable arrogance.
It left Kavra's mind blank, feeling as though everything inside had gone white.
"A pet I keep."
"Nothing more than that."
