Chapter 93: What Are You Doin' In My Swamp!
POV Sebastian Shaw
*Pant Pant Pant*
I take a heavy seat on the floor after finally killing the damn monster. I had managed to beat the damn thing, but it was by far the most annoying thing to kill, and I had to use an uncomfortable amount of stored energy to do so, as only complete destruction would kill it. It took a lot of effort and control to avoid vaporising several blocks, but I couldn't afford to risk getting that much attention on me right now.
Once I had killed the beast, I ran back to where I left Facilier but found his stone-cold corpse instead of the living but unconscious mess I left him as. But I at least got what I wanted more than anything else. The amulet.
'With this, I can kill that damn hag and take over that little realm of hers for myself. Then once I have some time to wait for things to cool off, I can reveal myself once more and take over the world once and for all.'
I had been trying to gain more and more power for centuries, but now most of that progress was lost, and I would have to be extra careful to avoid the Guardians of the Globe, as they were a threat I had never considered. Sure, there had been the occasional superpowered individual. Still, they were usually isolated cases, such as Thunderbird during the American Civil War or Firelord during the Warring States period. The last one was one that I was fairly sure existed but couldn't say for certain.
I shake my head and refocus on getting out of here. I may be far from where I fought that creature, but it was best to avoid staying around here for too long. Thus, I incinerated the corpse of Facilier and made my way to the submarine I had hidden a ways off the coast. However, that plan had to be scrapped for now as the coast was swarming with people and the port was under lockdown, so I would have to wait for things to calm down. So I went to a hotel I had connections to and hid in the penthouse for things to cool off.
I see a bottle of champagne and think, why not?
'Might as well, not like anyone will find me here.'
I take a seat and start sipping some wine, and I find it was decent. Not the best I had, but good enough.
"An interesting time to be drinking, don't you think?" says a voice from behind me.
I get a grim look on my face as, behind me, there was a window, and based on the sound, the voice came from outside. I didn't want to turn around and confirm my suspicions. Better to pretend I didn't hear them.
"Open the window, Shaw," the voice demands.

I could feel a trickle of sweat bead down my forehead as I tried to think about how best to get out of this mess. If before I wasn't too worried, now I was downright scared. Shaw was my name, but it was a name that few knew about, as I had used many names in my life; Shaw was one that I had only used a couple of times.
"Um, who do I have the pleasure of talking to?" I ask while pretending to look around, confused.
"Don't act clueless; We both know I am behind you. Now open the window and come quietly, or else I will use force," the voice demands once more.
'Don't panic; just pretend they have the wrong person.'
"I'm afraid you have the wrong person; my name is Jacob Hall. I have the documents to prove it if you don't believe me," I say while turning around and seeing who I was talking to.
I stop myself from cursing as I spot someone I had never seen before. They had platinum blonde shoulder-length hair, brilliant blue eyes, a face that even I had to admit was handsome, and most striking of all, they had pearl white wings flapping behind them. Another striking feature was the aura, or whatever it was that they gave off, that made me feel as if I was in the presence of something holy or pure.
"Um... Are you an angel?" I ask nervously.
"You could call me that if you want. Now I won't ask again. Open the window and come quietly," they demand.
If I was dealing with an angel, which I very much believed I was, I was monumentally screwed if I went with them. If even a fraction of what those religions spoke of is true, then this angel was to deliver me to judgement. And while I don't regret what I did in my life or even think I was wrong, I know that they wouldn't see things so kindly. And I would be damned if I was going to get sent to hell after all the work I did.
"Okay, I am opening it now," I said while slowly walking towards the window.
However, as I approached the window, I was getting ready to attack and flee. I didn't know if I could kill this being, and I didn't want to stick around and find out. But as I got close to the window, I started to hear music. At first, I thought it was my imagination, but it seemed the angel noticed it too.
PEPSI MAAAAAN!~
"What?" I say aloud.
Then I slowly hear the loud clunking of metal as the sound of music grows louder. Moments later, I get the distraction needed as a metal man with the Pepsi colours appears and blasts through the window and summons a can of Pepsi. If I had stuck around, I would have heard the angel asking an odd question.
"Wait, weren't you a woman earlier?"
POV Shift Rio
It took longer than I like to admit to capture Pepsi Man, and by the time I do, Shaw was long gone. But I wasn't worried he couldn't get far, as I had left a magical tracer on him. That being said, I didn't need to capture him, and I strongly doubted I could do so easily, as I was just a magic clone.
The only reason I confronted Shaw was by pure coincidence. I was investigating the disappearances in New Orleans that had been going on for much longer than most realised when I stumbled upon the aftermath of the battle between some creature and Shaw. I followed the trail until I found Shaw in a hotel. I honestly thought I was imagining things, but when I looked into things, I proved that this was the real deal, which begged a lot of questions. Thus, I used the guise of an angel to try to scare Shaw into hopefully complying. I needed to be unknown and thus unpredictable to Shaw to make him consider giving up without a fight or with minimal struggle.
Then again, using an angel against a former Nazi Scientist maybe wasn't the best choice. But that was the issue: I needed something he didn't think he could beat. And the only thing I could think of that Shaw would have minimal knowledge about and thus more fear was magic. Thus, I used my Thanagarian form with the Saintly Aura of Asia Argento and a bit of the Unicorn's aura to come off as holier-than-thou and hopefully scare him into submission or at least cooperation.
'Oh well, you can't win them all.'
POV Shift Steve Rogers
"I still don't get why we can't help them," Jessica says.
"We are helping; the food and medical supplies will save many lives and hopefully spare as many innocent civilians as possible," I reply.
"But so many are dying due to this stupid war, and we have the power to intervene," Jessica points out.
"We can't get involved, not only because it isn't our fight, but we have no authority to do so. We are defenders of Earth, not the rulers," I explain calmly.
"But we are involved; we protect food and medical supplies. How much of that ends up on the front lines?" Jessica points out.
"That's the part that we have to live with. Yes, some of these supplies will end up in the military's supply depots, but a good portion will go to preventing starvation or illness. Moreover, this is a humanitarian mission; the supplies are meant to be used to limit the damage to civilians," I explain.
"Sigh. I know... I know, I just don't like having this power and being so powerless," Jessica says.
"Trust me when I say that I don't like this either. I've long since felt that war is terrible and should always be the last resort. When I fought in WW2, there was a clear enemy. Hydra and the Nazi's were evil, plain and simple. But this conflict doesn't have a bad guy. Maybe you would say that Argentina is the villain for starting the war, but Brazil is far from innocent, and their immensely corrupt government has committed various atrocities in the conflict so far. We tried to end the conflict already with diplomacy, but that is impossible since both sides have made it clear. The war won't end until the other nation no longer exists," I explain.
"Sigh. I get it, doesn't mean I like it," Jessica says sadly.
"Good. I'd be worried if you liked this situation. Keep that feeling, as that is your conscience. It helps keep you going when everything around you is failing," I say from experience.
She nods, and we return to the Watchtower after reporting our mission success. Which is when we come across Luke and Selene.
"You're back already?" Jessica asks with surprise.
"Yeah, but not for good reasons," Luke says with a slightly frustrated tone.
"That bad?" I ask.
"Yeah, the UN talks are over, Russia has not only refused to leave Kazakhstan, but they have also refused to back down from ownership of Mongolian Oil. They claim an old agreement between the Soviet Union and Mongolia gives them ownership over the oil Mongolia produces," Selene explains.
"China is claiming they have the territorial rights to Mongolia as part of numerous treaties, most of which are hundreds of years old," Luke adds with annoyance.
"Both nations refuse to back down and demand that the oil of Mongolia be theirs and theirs alone. No agreement could be made, so the only option was by the crucible of war," Selene says with a disappointed tone.
"Fools, every single one of them," Jessica says sadly.
"I hope I don't live long enough to see a third World War," Selene says in a slightly hopeful tone.
"Let's not get too caught up in the actions of those fools. We've done our best; we can't force everyone to get along. We should focus on what we can do now, such as helping those who don't want to be involved get out of the conflict zone," I suggest.
"I suppose you have a point," Selene comments.
