MHA: Dark Matter

Chapter 72: Behind the Scenes

[POV from the outside]

I hate them. I hate them. I hate them.

A pale hand clenched a column. With a barely audible crack, part of the concrete column turned to dust.

"Oh, the boss is furious. That's bad." / "My heart burns with him."

The villain in the black-and-white jumpsuit shouted joyfully, raising his hands in the air. The man in the yellow cloak and balaclava sitting on an old couch spread his hands with a sigh.

"We got completely destroyed this time. Master Shigaraki has been captured, and Ticci Micc is missing. He might even be dead. After all, he was fighting the number two hero."

"Hey, hey, what's with the depression? Our hearts should be blazing! We're alive and free! For the goals Stain strived for! Um, Toga, are you okay?"

Spinner's excited voice became uncertain as he looked at the blonde villainess. Sitting against the wall, slowly rocking back and forth, the girl radiated an oppressive aura. But she suddenly froze when the lizard-like villain addressed her.

"Uuuuu. I never got to taste Mask-kun's blood. Not fair. Not fair. Not fair. Stupid heroes!"

"Why are you throwing knives at me? I'm not involved at all!"

"He dodged my little knife so hilariously!"

"What does that have to do with me?"

Spinner screamed in panic, running from the enraged villainess.

"Madhouse."

Dabi said quietly. His hand, covered in surgical staples pulling his skin together, touched the bump on his head. The pyromaniac frowned.

"Teacher..."

Exhaling, the man with the blue-gray hair turned his head toward the silhouette of dark smoke in tattered waiter's clothes that had silently appeared from a black warp portal.

"Kurogiri, did you get in touch with that annoying doctor?"

"No, I'm sorry, Tomura Shigaraki."

"Tch, annoying. So he decided to test me, the cheeky old man."

The hand with the broken nails began to scratch his neck nervously, while bloodshot crimson eyes stared at the floor.

"But a message came from Ticci Micc."

The abandoned warehouse fell silent. The blonde villainess, who'd been about to stab the nervous Spinner, looked at Kurogiri with attentive amber eyes.

"He says he won't be able to meet with us for a few days, but he has an idea of where we can find new members for the League of Villains. He's already sent me the information he gathered on his idea."

The frowning Shigaraki reached out his hand. Understanding the unspoken command, Kurogiri handed over his phone without resistance. Soon, crimson eyes began scanning the lines of information on the screen. The figure of All For One's pupil radiated an atypical sense of calm and seriousness, which involuntarily aroused wariness among the League members. A calm Tomura Shigaraki seemed more dangerous to them.

"Did he send anything else?"

Hesitating slightly, Kurogiri answered.

"He said he might apply to become the master's student himself if we're too slow."

The villain with the hand on his face laughed. The laughter echoing under the vaults of the abandoned warehouse was full of rage. When the laughter died down, Tomura Shigaraki exhaled air with an audible wheeze.

"Himiko, Twice, Compress."

"Will there be blood?"

"I'm all ears, Boss!" / "I don't care."

"What are your orders?"

A crooked smile appeared on the face of the League's leader.

"Find out everything you can about the Dragon's Breath group from Yokohama. Kurogiri will give you information on some of its members and their likely locations."

"Okay."

"Will do!" / "No."

"No problem."

Shigaraki shifted his gaze to the photo depicting several young men drinking sake. One of them had a clearly visible unusual tattoo on his shoulder. A stylized red mask exhaling steam from its nostrils. A smile on Tomura's face grew crazier.

"Bastard, do you think you're better than me? In the end, I'll kill you too."

---

"... at the moment, the whereabouts of the League of Villains' members are unknown. All captured Nomu, similar to the first one, show zero reaction to any attempts at interaction. The warehouse where they were kept was destroyed, making it difficult to determine how they were created."

"In short, we lost All Might and got nothing but an old, disabled villain in return. Great trade."

The massive man in the classic suit said loudly. Yamato Izamu, who unofficially controlled all of Japan's Self-Defense Forces, had angular features and sharp, small black eyes.

"That disabled man in his prime could have taken out all your beloved soldiers. Even now, he'd have a pretty good chance."

The gray-haired woman with clearly visible wrinkles on her face said sarcastically.

"Oh, how pompous. Maybe you can explain why your people never found the remains of the potential awakened one they supposedly eliminated, or why the remaining villains who caused this mess aren't sitting in Tartarus yet, Chairman?"

"Maybe because your people who participated in that operation were essentially useless?"

"If you'd let us use heavy weaponry, I wouldn't have left a trace of those villains."

"Armored vehicles in densely populated Kamino?"

"And destroying half of Kamino was better?"

"Enough."

An elderly voice interrupted the argument. The old man sitting behind an oval desk in an office-like hall, dressed in a traditional yukata, might have looked ridiculous, but under the gaze of his brown eyes, the man who'd been giving the report turned pale and bowed, then left the room. Only after the sound of the closing door did the voice of one of the five heads of Japan's Elite Families ring out again.

"Japan has lost two awakened ones, All Might and All For One. At the moment, we have only one awakened and a few potentials. From the country with the most combat-type awakened, we've dropped almost to the bottom of the list. Consequently, economic and geopolitical pressure from China and the US on us may increase."

"Add France and Great Britain to that."

Everyone present looked questioningly at the frowning gray-haired woman, who was the chairman of the Public Safety Commission.

"Information about HYDRA's involvement in the I-Island incident has been confirmed. And since the organization was created in Japan and is considered Japanese, even despite its illegal status..."

"Kuso (shit)."

Giving a disapproving look to the massive man, the old man just shook his head. Everyone understood that Japan, as an interested party, was now a suspect in the terrorist attack.

"Araki-san, will this information affect our projects?"

The intellectual brunet adjusted his thin black glasses.

"Project 'Guardians,' due to the loss of many leading specialists and valuable equipment during this incident, is now several years behind schedule. It's hard to predict more precisely. And with the information shared, the completion time could increase by ten years. As for Project 'Utopia,' our losses were insignificant. Besides, Germany and Russia, our main partners in this project, won't just back out. And they recently agreed to continue research on Japanese soil."

"That's strange. A few years ago, they persistently insisted on conducting it in Europe. Can you explain that, Arata-san?"

The beautiful black-haired woman asked, gracefully adjusting one of her hair strands, and smirked, noticing a fleeting look of desire in some of the men's eyes.

"I don't know the exact reasons. But, in my opinion, it's related to the growing radical movement 'Humanize' in Europe. Surprisingly, their leader has considerable influence in society. I don't understand those psychos at all."

"Young people these days have no manners at all."

Yamamoto Yoshinori shook his head, his brown eyes looking at the people who represented the real power in modern Japan.

"So what do we do in this situation? The Symbol of Peace is gone, and we need to stop this League of Villains as soon as possible while they're weak. After all, they have great growth potential right now, and All For One's current student is gaining experience quickly. But his first student is still causing us problems."

Izamu asked. His narrowed black eyes seemed to look through the scope of a sniper rifle, determining the best conditions for the upcoming shot.

"I'll handle public opinion and the administrative apparatus to reduce the panic from revealing the truth about All Might. I hope the chairman of the Public Safety Commission and the head of the Self-Defense Forces can handle the predicted rise in crime and All For One's legacy."

The oldest, most respected man in the room steepled his fingers. Waiting for nods from the two indicated people, his brown eyes moved on.

"Arata-san, Yaoyorozu-san, I count on your help in interacting with other countries."

"Don't worry, Yamamoto-san. We'll handle our task."

The man smiled, hiding the expression in his eyes behind the gleam of his glasses.

"Oh, aren't you ashamed to dump such a heavy task on the shoulders of a weak girl like me, Yamamoto-san?"

"I'd like to see the fool who'd call the head of the Yaoyorozu Elite Family and one of the few awakened people in the world weak. By the way, can you tell us about the sudden lawsuits against the heroine, Nejire Chan, with whom your daughter was interning?"

The old man asked with a bilious smile.

"People who upset my daughter always have misfortunes happen to them. I don't even know why."

The older Yaoyorozu smiled playfully, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
