MHA: Dark Matter

Chapter 63: Catch-Up

[POV Lisa Sutter]

"Lisa, remind me tomorrow to check on the Electronics group's project if I forget because of the preparations for the meeting with representatives of the Yaoyorozu conglomerate."

"Consider it done, Nagato-sama."

The blonde maid, dressed in the style of a French housemaid, bowed. The long-haired black-haired man dressed in European fashion answered with an expressionless face.

"I don't doubt it."

The bedroom door of the head of the Tosaka family, founders of the namesake conglomerate that later unofficially became part of the HYDRA corporation, closed in front of the girl. The servant of the Elite family took this calmly. She lived to serve this family. Ever since a little homeless girl named Lisa was found by the Tosaka family's subordinates in Otéon, a European country torn apart by yet another armed coup.

Only years later, when she was allowed to participate in the affairs of the Elite family, did she learn that the Tosaka family had provoked that coup to fight certain European firms and then secretly take control of the country's business and government. But Lisa Sutter no longer cared.

Five steps away from her master's bedroom, the blonde woman, who had been raised as a servant and bodyguard for the next head of the family, felt a bad feeling. After hesitating for a minute, she returned to the door and knocked. There was no answer. Ready to be reprimanded for her actions and excessive paranoia, the maid opened the door.

"Nagato-sama, forgive my intru..."

The woman froze mid-sentence. At that moment, a gray ribbon wrapped around the unconscious Nagato Tosaka, hanging from an outstretched hand, making one of Japan's most influential people look like an Egyptian mummy. The black mask with the crooked red grin turned toward the maid.

"Coming into a man's bedroom so late..."

The intruder shook his head, tossing the "doll" over his shoulder.

"...you should be ashamed of yourself, miss."

"*Black Boots: Steel Steps.* "

Destroying the floor beneath her feet, the blonde woman instantly reached the enemy. A woman's leg, clad in black with steel discs that had appeared around her ankles, slammed down on the villain's head. The sound of screeching metal echoed through the room.

"Do you always wear athletic shorts under such a puffy skirt?"

The intruder inquired, holding her "black boot" with his hand, which had turned gray. Pressing her lips into a thin line, the woman tried to kick him with her other leg, giving it an extra boost with her Quirk. With a clearly audible pop of displaced air, the second leg swung toward the villain's head. But he held the blocked leg tight and threw her into the wall with unexpected force.

"Sorry, but pushy women who can't keep a conversation going don't interest me."

Flipping in the air, Sutter grazed the wall with her feet, ready to lunge again, but was forced to dodge the small balls flying at her. A black cloud filled the room. The woman held her breath and closed her eyes, feeling the acrid substance sting even through her eyelids, making her eyes water. Feeling air move, she struck out toward where she thought the attack was coming from. The sound of splintering wood echoed.

Feeling her anger rise, the blonde woman swung her legs.

"*Black Boots: Misty Wind.* "

The destructive currents of the resulting hurricane-force winds dispersed the smoke, revealing an empty bedroom with destroyed furniture. An alarm began to blare through the mansion. Gritting her teeth, Sutter jumped into the hallway, trying to figure out which way the intruder had run.

BOOM.

A tremor ran through the building.

"*Black Boots: Wind's Step.* "

Jumping up, the blonde maid pushed off the air behind her as if it were a wall and rushed toward the explosion. Familiar corridors flashed before the woman pushing off the air, who couldn't maintain that pace for long due to the strain on her vestibular system. Another explosion rang out, and the maid finally saw the running intruder with the gray-ribbon-wrapped human figure on his back.

"Stop!"

A girlish command cut through the air. With growing dread, the woman recognized the daughter of the family head standing in the villain's path. Standing with her feet shoulder-width apart, the girl with silky black hair tied in two pigtails aimed her hand, shimmering with amber light, at the villain.

"Mistress, run!"

"Are you going to shoot your father?"

The man in the mask held out the ribbon-wrapped figure. The previously determined face of the Tosaka heiress twisted in surprise.

"What?"

Suddenly accelerating, the man appeared in front of the girl and grabbed her hand, extinguishing the amber light.

"What the? EEEYAAAH!"

He then threw her over his shoulder. Straight at Lisa Sutter, who was flying toward the villain. Losing the momentum from her speed, she had to catch the flying younger Tosaka.

"Mistress, wait here. I'll get your father back right away."

Putting the girl on her feet, the maid chased after the villain. But chasing the constantly flickering figure in the mask, who seemed to be mocking her by letting her catch up, then breaking away again, the woman felt powerless rage. For the first time in five years, she felt the need for more speed and agility. And that was with her Quirk, which allowed her to reach tremendous speeds!

Soon they were outside the mansion, in the garden near a hole in the wall, with rubble scattered everywhere from a previous explosion. The guards who had received word of the intruder's location before losing contact with the operator after the second explosion had their weapons aimed at the figure in the black mask. The head of the security sector stepped forward.

"Villain, release Tosaka-dono and surrender. You..."

The gray ribbons on the arm of the man in the mask began to unravel into the air.

"...won't be able to escape. The estate is surrounded, and heroes will arrive soon."

The nervous guard breathed a sigh of relief as he noticed Lisa Sutter emerging from the house behind the intruder. With that relief in his eyes, the man's head flew into the air. Blurring before the eyes of those around, a gray ribbon cut the guards into pieces, soaking the surrounding lawn with blood.

The villain walked through the breach, exiting onto a busy street cordoned off by police. Curious onlookers beyond the cordon watched the villain emerge from the opening with fear. The bloodied ribbon hovering beside him, held by one end in the villain's palm, quickly took the shape of a shell. A screech echoed through the air.

A man wearing a full set of Japanese armor with a red cape thrown over his shoulders stood before the villain. Aged pale orange eyes looked at the villain with icy calm through the slits in his helmet.

"Yes! The number 10 hero, Yoroi Musha, is here!"

"Go get him, hero in the armor!"

One of the onlookers shouted. The man in the mask turned his head toward the maid with a serious face who had stopped behind him. Tension hung in the air. Then the villain looked at the sweating police officers inside the cordon and the few heroes nearby.

"Fine. You win. Hey, pervert maid who likes to enter men's bedrooms without permission!"

The blonde woman's eyes widened in surprise as she caught the gray-ribbon-wrapped body. It felt...

"Enjoy!"

The villain shouted, sinking through the ground. A katana strike belatedly carved a trench in the asphalt.

...like a pillow. Confused, Sutter unwrapped the "head" and stared at the smiling face of a blond man. In the maid's hands was a high-quality dakimakura featuring the number 1 hero.

The elderly man with the long white beard and samurai armor cautiously stepped back from the woman radiating murderous intent.

"Mr. Compress, your Quirk is practically made for thievery."

"Wonderful to hear from such a professional as yourself, Ticci Micc."

The tall man in the yellow coat and hat with a feather made a gallant bow. I caught the blue marble he tossed, showing the unconscious head of the Tosaka family inside.

The League of Villains' newcomer proved extremely useful for kidnapping people. His Quirk, "Compress," allowed him to turn anything he touched with his hand into marble balls, people included. Too bad I couldn't carry those balls around using Choice because of their energy saturation from the Quirk. So I had to help him sneak into the estate unnoticed, then cause a distraction while my ally escaped in the ensuing chaos.

"Oh, my time is up. A pleasure working with you."

The man dissolving into brown mud, Mr. Compress, said with a final snap of his fingers. I looked at the body of Nagato Tosaka, which had appeared in my hand from the little ball. This League of Villains had a lot of potential. That was good. I needed strong allies to eliminate HYDRA, a threat to my loved ones. If they themselves became such a threat...

"...then I'll crush them into dust, regardless of their master."

Dark Matter raged inside my body, and I didn't notice my eyes growing brighter and brighter.
