Chapter 31 31: Conditions
Qin Xiao showed Toad no courtesy whatsoever.
Even though, deep down, he very much wanted to give Devil Fruits to Sabretooth and Toad—
because doing so would expand and strengthen his own abilities.
He even wanted to meet Magneto, Erik, in person—
to see what kind of fruit might suit him.
But—
this wasn't something he could just hand out casually.
Frank received the Swamp-Swamp Fruit, and in return became utterly loyal to him.
Tony got the Revive-Revive Fruit, and Qin Xiao gained at least 5% of Stark Industries.
Kingpin received the Bomb-Bomb Fruit, and ended up buying Stark shares.
Even Ancient One—
he traded the Age-Age Fruit in exchange for learning magic.
And now?
Toad thought a few words were enough to earn a fruit?
Naive.
If he set that precedent, everything afterward would fall apart.
Toad froze at Qin Xiao's response.
If Qin Xiao really was some "devil's envoy"—
then there was no reason he'd grant power just because someone asked.
He suddenly found himself stuck.
Qin Xiao looked at him with faint disdain.
"More importantly, there's something you two still don't understand.
You're inside my space.
Which means—
you're my prisoners."
He paused.
"If I hadn't wanted Frank to test your strength—
you'd already be lying on the ground.
Like this."
As he spoke, his hand shifted.
A chunk of swamp matter separated from his body.
"You have that power too?!" Toad's expression changed instantly.
If Qin Xiao's ability was merely awakening mutants—
then he shouldn't be able to use the same power himself.
"What's so strange about that?"
Qin Xiao flicked his wrist.
The lump of mud flew like a grenade toward Sabretooth and Toad.
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
Two explosions rang out.
Both were blasted away.
"Cough—!"
A moment later, Sabretooth struggled back to his feet.
His regeneration had saved him.
Toad, however, wasn't so lucky—
he had been knocked unconscious.
If Qin Xiao had intended to kill him,
he'd already be dead.
"You…!"
Sabretooth stared at Qin Xiao in shock.
That moment—
Qin Xiao had displayed the same ability as Frank.
But stronger.
That swamp—
it could explode.
And the power clearly exceeded that of a grenade.
At this point, Qin Xiao had demonstrated three abilities:
The mysterious Mirror DimensionThe swamp transformationAnd explosive power
Sabretooth no longer doubted him.
Mutants typically had a single specialization:
Magneto controlled magnetism.
Charles controlled minds.
He had regeneration.
But Qin Xiao?
Multiple powers.
That could only mean one thing—
something beyond a normal mutant.
Maybe… he really was backed by some kind of "devil."
"Sabretooth," Qin Xiao said calmly,
"I need you to take me to Erik."
"I have things to discuss with him personally."
He added,
"Since you came for Frank anyway—
we can handle both matters at once."
Sabretooth hesitated.
But Qin Xiao was right.
Their mission had been to find Frank.
Now—
they could bring back both Frank and this mysterious "devil's envoy."
That was double the result.
The only problem?
They weren't doing this voluntarily.
"…Fine. I'll take you."
Cliffside Base
At the edge of a seaside cliff stood a temporary base—
built by Magneto, Erik.
Recently, he had become interested in something.
For months, rumors had spread:
An "Eastern devil" was invading the West—
bringing with him Devil Fruits that granted power.
A way to forcibly change a person.
The idea fascinated him.
Mutants possessed the X-gene, a product of natural evolution.
But what if—
that process could be accelerated artificially?
Just like Devil Fruits granted abilities—
couldn't technology do the same?
Could they create a device—
to amplify and trigger X-gene mutations?
Before him stood a prototype machine.
All that remained—
was the final experiment.
Just then—
a voice sounded from behind him.
"Didn't expect you to actually build this thing."
