Chapter : 323
Her voice was no longer soft and melodic. It was harsh. It was shrill. It was full of pure, unfiltered venom. She jumped up from the white rug. She balled her delicate hands into tight, angry fists.
Anny angrily cursed his name. "I told him to keep his mouth shut!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.
She paced aggressively across the living room. She totally forgot about her innocent victim act. She let her true, ugly personality show. She glared at the floor. She stomped her expensive high heels on the carpet.
"He ruined everything!" Anny yelled furiously. She waved her arms in the air. "I gave him one simple job! He was supposed to blow up the lab and keep quiet! I promised him a share of the money! That stupid, worthless thug just destroyed my entire future!"
Laxmi grinned widely. The fire user tossed a bright orange spark into the air. "So you admit it! You planned the explosion. You hired him to kill Carrion."
Anny stopped pacing. She froze. She looked at Laxmi. Then she looked at Princess Iris.
Anny realized her massive mistake. Her chest heaved up and down. She had just screamed her own confession in front of the 13th Princess. She had inadvertently shattered her own innocent victim act in a fit of rage. Her flawless defense was completely gone. She had exposed herself as the true mastermind.
Anny glared at Ken. Her blue eyes burned with intense, murderous hatred. She pointed a shaking finger directly at his face.
"You tricked me!" Anny yelled at him. Her face was bright red with fury. "You manipulated me! He did not know those names! You lied to me!"
Ken just slouched his shoulders. He popped another strawberry candy into his mouth. He chewed it loudly. "I just asked a simple question. You did all the screaming. I am just a very good guesser."
Princess Iris stepped forward. She raised her silver rapier. The sharp blade gleamed in the sunlight coming through the large windows. Her violet eyes were stern and absolutely unyielding.
"The act is officially over, Anny," Princess Iris declared powerfully. "You just admitted to orchestrating the murder of Dr. Carrion. You admitted to working with corrupt politicians. You are under arrest for assassination and treason against the Belmontia Empire."
Zinia cracked her knuckles loudly. She took a heavy step toward the blonde woman. "Put your hands behind your back. Do not try to fight us. You will lose very badly."
Anny backed away slowly. Her expensive silk dress rustled against the floor. She hit the edge of the glass coffee table. She looked around the massive penthouse suite. She was completely trapped. The private elevator was blocked by Ira. The front door was blocked by Luna. The elite vanguard stood in a tight circle around her.
Anny started to breathe very fast. Her mind scrambled for a desperate escape plan. She needed to fix this. She needed to spin another lie. She needed to save her own life.
She instantly changed her tactics again. The angry, screaming villain vanished. The innocent, helpless victim tried to return. Tears sprang back into her blue eyes. Her lower lip began to tremble pitifully. She dropped to her knees on the floor.
"Wait! Please wait!" Anny begged loudly. She held her hands up in a desperate pleading motion. She tried to make her voice soft and melodramatic again. Before she could launch into another tearful, manipulative plea claiming she was merely a helpless victim of circumstance, she pointed a shaking finger toward the wall.
"You do not understand!" Anny cried out. "Dr. Raven forced me to do it! He is a monster! I was just following his orders! I can give you proof! I have secret files hidden behind that painting! Just promise you will protect me from him!"
Princess Iris lowered her rapier slightly. She wanted those files. The secret documents could expose the entire political conspiracy. The files could prove the treason to the Emperor.
"Show us the files," Iris ordered firmly.
Ken stood by the velvet chair. He slouched his shoulders. He let out a loud, dramatic yawn.
"This is taking too long," Ken complained casually. "Can we wrap this up? I want to go home and take a nap. Solving crimes is incredibly boring."
He looked past the crying woman. He looked at the massive, floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the penthouse. The windows offered a beautiful, sweeping view of the capital city. The sky outside was bright blue.
Suddenly, Ken's dark eyes narrowed.
He did not use his magical detection. He just noticed a very small, very strange glint of light in the distance. It looked like a sharp reflection from a nearby rooftop.
Ken instantly knew what was coming. The real mastermind was not going to let Anny talk. The corrupt politician had sent professional cleaners to tie up the loose ends. They were not going to let the 13th Unit leave this room with the secret files.
"Get down!" Ken shouted.
He did not use his goofy, squeaky voice. He used a sharp, commanding tone. He dropped to the floor immediately. He pulled his suit jacket tightly over his head to protect his face.
Naomi blinked in pure surprise. She looked at him. "Ken? What are you—"
CRASH!
The massive, floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the penthouse exploded violently inward.
Millions of sharp glass shards rained down like a deadly, sparkling storm. The noise was absolutely deafening. The beautiful white living room was instantly torn to shreds. Thick pieces of glass embedded themselves in the white leather couches.
Strong, chaotic gusts of wind howled into the apartment. The white curtains ripped entirely from their metal rods. The expensive crystal chandeliers swung wildly from the ceiling.
A squad of heavily armed, masked assassins crashed violently through the apartment's glass windows.
They swung into the room on thick black ropes. There were six of them. They wore sleek, totally black tactical armor. Their faces were completely hidden behind smooth, featureless metal masks. They carried advanced, glowing magical rifles. They moved with terrifying, flawless speed.
They did not shout. They did not announce their arrival. They were silent, efficient, highly trained killers.
"Ambush!" Sayma screamed loudly. She threw both of her hands forward. "Absolute Hexagon!"
A bright golden honeycomb barrier snapped into place in front of Princess Iris. The barrier shielded the Royal from the falling glass. Two assassins landed heavily on the white rug. They immediately raised their glowing magical rifles. They fired a rapid barrage of dark red energy bullets directly at the golden barrier.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The red bullets hit the golden shield. The heavy impact shook the entire room. Sayma gritted her teeth. She pushed her boots against the floor to hold her ground.
Laxmi roared in fierce anger. Her hands burst into bright orange flames. "You picked the wrong room!" Laxmi shouted. She threw a massive, roaring fireball directly at the assassins near the window.
But the assassins were not there to fight the 13th Unit. They were not there to kill the Princess. They had one single, specific target. They had strict orders to eliminate the liability.
