CH 82: Domain Expansion

Lex once again found himself on the same planet he had moved earlier, although this time his goal was not to move it but to change it, to shape it into something else entirely. Telekinesis was not limited to simply pushing or pulling objects; at its core, it was the application of mental force upon matter, which meant that, with enough power and sufficient control, Lex should theoretically be able to use it to physically reshape things as well. That made his next objective rather straightforward: he was going to turn the planet into a cube.

The first step was familiar by now, although that did not make it easy. Lex once again spread his telekinesis across the entire planet, forcing his mental power around its surface and through its interior until he could establish a connection with practically every piece of matter that made up the world beneath him. It still took him roughly an hour to gain a proper hold over the entire planet, but even that was an improvement compared to his previous attempt, and Lex could feel the difference in the way his power responded to his thoughts. He was getting better at distributing his mental force across enormous distances without letting his control deteriorate completely.

Now came the difficult part.

Lex began applying force from six different directions, attempting to compress and expand different sections of the planet simultaneously so that its spherical shape would gradually become something far more angular. He wasn't merely trying to squeeze the planet as hard as possible; he had to apply different amounts of force to different areas while maintaining enough overall power to affect the entire world at once, essentially trying to sculpt a planet with nothing but his mind. The sheer amount of mental energy required was absurd, and after pushing himself for long enough, Lex actually felt his mental reserves begin to fall, something that almost felt strange simply because he was so accustomed to them remaining full. The last time he had experienced anything remotely similar had been when the Player's Handbook had consumed all of his energy, so feeling his mental energy being depleted through his own effort was a rather novel experience.

The planet, meanwhile, did not appreciate his artistic ambitions.

Massive earthquakes tore across its surface as Lex continued squeezing, entire mountain ranges shifting while the crust cracked beneath the pressure. Lex increased the force anyway, trying to force the planet into the shape he wanted, but the result was considerably less cooperative than he had hoped. The planet eventually fractured under the pressure, breaking apart into three enormous chunks that drifted away from one another as the forces holding the world together finally gave out.

Lex stared at the three pieces for a moment.

Then he continued.

It was just a bunch of rocks, after all. Gravity would eventually pull the pieces back together, and even if it didn't, Lex wasn't exactly emotionally attached to this particular planet. As far as he was concerned, destroying a world that nobody lived on was hardly a tragedy, especially when he was using it specifically as a training ground. The three enormous pieces therefore continued receiving the full attention of his telekinesis as Lex tried to force them into something resembling a cube.

After roughly half a day of experimentation, however, Lex finally stopped. It wasn't because he had reached the limits of what he could accomplish, nor was he incapable of eventually forcing the planet into the shape he wanted; the problem was that the exercise simply wasn't giving him enough improvement for the amount of effort he was putting into it. Raphael's calculations had confirmed what Lex was beginning to realize himself: while manipulating an entire planet was excellent practice for learning how to distribute his telekinesis across an enormous object, the exercise was not providing enough improvement in the two areas he currently wanted to push most, namely raw power and fine control.

So Lex decided to try something completely different.

He pulled a massive quantity of Vibranium from his inventory and placed it before himself. If a planet was useful for testing the limits of his range and the amount of force he could exert, then Vibranium would provide a much better challenge for precision, because now Lex wasn't trying to reshape something enormous into a rough geometric form. He was going to make something considerably more complicated.

A human-shaped figure.

More specifically, a life-sized action figure modeled after Donna.

Why Donna?

Well, Lex had to admit that she simply had the right kind of appearance for an action figure. What else was he supposed to say?

The joke aside, the actual process proved considerably more difficult than Lex had expected. Vibranium was absurdly durable, meaning that brute force alone wasn't enough to accomplish what he wanted, because applying too much force would simply deform or fracture the material rather than producing the precise shape he was aiming for. He needed to control thousands upon thousands of tiny sections of the metal simultaneously, adjusting the amount of pressure applied to each one while maintaining the overall structure of the figure.

Hours passed.

Lex didn't stop.

The best he managed during those first hours was a vaguely humanoid shape, and even that had come with several failures. The hands were particularly troublesome, and he ended up breaking the developing figure roughly a dozen times while attempting to create fingers that actually looked like fingers rather than vaguely separated lumps of metal. Every failure forced him to begin repairing the damaged section, after which he would attempt the same process again, adjusting the way he distributed his telekinetic force based on what had gone wrong before.

Yet something gradually changed as he continued.

Lex stopped thinking about telekinesis as something he was actively using.

His concentration slowly slipped into something resembling a trance as his control became more precise, his mental power beginning to feel less like an external force that he was directing and more like an extension of his own body. It reminded him of the difference between gripping a pencil with his entire hand and holding it naturally between his fingers, where the movement no longer required conscious consideration of every individual muscle. His telekinesis was beginning to feel like that, except instead of manipulating a pencil, he was manipulating matter directly through thought, with increasingly subtle changes in pressure occurring almost instinctively as he focused on what he wanted rather than consciously calculating how to accomplish it.

And then something extremely strange happened.

Lex suddenly felt feedback from the Yuuki Template.

It wasn't the H'El Template responding to his progress, as he had expected. Instead, something within the Yuuki Template suddenly resonated with the state he had reached, as though his mind had stumbled across a principle that another part of him had been waiting for.

A new skill was acquired.

Unique Skill: Creator.

Lex immediately abandoned the action figure.

The moment the information settled into his mind, he understood why the Yuuki Template had responded. Creator was not simply another ability that happened to complement his existing powers; it allowed him to manipulate the energy of the soul itself, and because the soul contained information, including the information that formed skills, manipulating that energy meant he could potentially manipulate the very structure of abilities.

In other words, he could create skills.

Lex's eyes widened slightly before he turned his attention toward the most obvious person who could make use of such an ability.

“Raphael, can you process the data required and manipulate the soul energy to create a skill?” Lex asked.

Creating a skill wasn't simply a matter of wanting one to exist, after all. From what Lex understood of the Tensura system, skill creation involved two fundamental components: Desire and Data. Desire provided the direction, allowing the soul to find its own path and mold itself toward the desired result, while Data accelerated the process by providing information that allowed the soul to construct the desired ability without having to discover every step through trial and error.

Raphael responded almost immediately.

<It is possible to create a skill using already available data. By scanning the framework of all skills available from the world of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, it is possible to establish a working framework for the creation of a Unique Skill. The same principle can potentially be applied to Ultimate Skills; however, as you currently possess only Raphael: Lord of Wisdom as an Ultimate Skill, establishing a sufficiently comprehensive framework for Ultimate Skill creation would require considerably more time.>

Lex considered the information for a moment before smiling. Even if Ultimate Skills were currently beyond the reach of the process, that still left him with the ability to create entirely new Unique Skills, and Creator itself was already proof that Unique Skills could be extraordinarily powerful.

“Okay. Create a framework for Unique Skills.”

<Done.>

Lex blinked.

“Wait, really? Damn, you're fast. So can we start creating Unique Skills now?”

<Affirmative.>

“How long will it take? Can I decide the direction?”

<You can decide the direction. The time required will depend upon the nature of the desired skill and the amount of existing data applicable to its creation.>

That made sense to Lex. If he wanted to create something similar to an Eye-type Unique Skill, for example, he already possessed Milim Eye as a reference point, meaning Raphael wouldn't have to construct everything from nothing. If, however, he wanted to create an ability based on an entirely unfamiliar principle with no comparable data available, the process would naturally take considerably longer.

Lex then thought of something else.

“What about other power systems? We've got plenty of skills from different worlds. Can't we use those?”

<Attempting the hypothesis.>

Raphael immediately began processing the possibility while Lex returned his attention to the Vibranium action figure. By now it had begun to look recognizably human, although the facial features were still considerably worse than he had intended, while the hair was so atrocious that if Donna ever saw it, she might actually break the thing herself despite the fact that it was made from Vibranium.

Another day passed.

Lex continued working on the figure while Raphael processed the new problem, and by the time he had finally managed to give the hair something vaguely resembling an acceptable shape, Raphael had completed her initial research.

<After analyzing Heretic Magic and Psionic Soul Shaping in relation to the Unique Skill: Creator, a cross-reference point has been established between Magic and Genetics and the Unique Skill system of the world of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. However, due to the limited sample size and insufficient comprehensive data, these findings can currently only serve as reference points. The creation of skills based upon these connections may therefore require considerably more processing time.>

Lex paused.

“Oh yeah, Psionic Soul Shaping is technically a soul-type power. What if instead of directly manipulating my soul, you use those soul-energy clones? They're still me, so it shouldn't be a problem, but since they're outside my main body, wouldn't that mean they couldn't affect me?”

<Unnecessary. The Essence of Transcend Self ensures that you will face no complications from direct manipulation of your own soul.>

“Hmm… I suppose you're right about that. Is there any way that could help you with the research?”

<Using the Domain Creation Card and establishing the Unique Skill: Creator as its base may increase the understanding of interactions between different world systems.>Lex immediately followed Raphael's suggestion and pulled out the Domain Creation Card.

Originally, he had considered using the card to combine several similar abilities, perhaps using Mocking Truth to create some kind of synergistic power that would allow him to push several abilities in the same direction. However, the more he thought about Raphael's research, the more obvious the better use became. If the Domain Creation Card could serve as a controlled environment where different abilities from different systems were forced to interact, then it could potentially provide Raphael with exactly the kind of reference material she needed.

The card registered Creator as a four-star ability, which meant Lex normally couldn't include another four-star ability. Its standard configuration allowed one four-star ability and five three-star abilities, and that should have been the end of the matter.

Except Lex had Mocking Truth.

If he used Mocking Truth on his other abilities, he could potentially make them compatible with the card's restrictions. The problem was that Mocking Truth might cause the abilities to be converted into the World System associated with it, rather than allowing them to retain their original nature, which would defeat the entire purpose of Raphael's research. Lex therefore didn't want to use Mocking Truth indiscriminately.

But there was nothing stopping him from using it once.

That changed things considerably.

By using Mocking Truth to reduce Nihil Light from its original four-star classification to three-star compatibility, Lex could technically include two abilities that originated as four-star powers. The only drawback was that Nihil Light would retain only fifty percent of its original effectiveness within the Domain.

Lex quickly made his decision.

4★: Creator

3★: Nihil Light — 50% Output

3★: Psionic Soul Shaping — Inhuman Gene

3★: Rey Tracing

3★: Cryokinesis — Frozene Variant

3★: Moxie

Each ability represented something different. Creator represented the Tensura skill system, Nihil Light and Moxie represented the Pokémon system from different angles, Psionic Soul Shaping represented genetic abilities, Rey Tracing represented techniques, while Cryokinesis provided another example of genetic evolution. The goal wasn't simply to make the strongest possible Domain; Lex was effectively giving Raphael a collection of different systems and asking the Domain Creation Card to find the connections between them.

The moment Lex confirmed the combination, something completely new appeared within his mind.

He could suddenly perceive another way of manipulating cursed energy.

Except it wasn't limited to cursed energy.

Mana, mental energy, cursed energy and the other forms of energy within him seemed to suddenly become part of the same conceptual framework, moving together in a way that hadn't been possible before. The realization was so sudden that Lex barely had time to process it before the power began forming around him.

Domain Expansion: Nihility of Creation.

The Domain expanded outward with Lex at its center, swallowing the surrounding space and replacing it with something fundamentally different. Countless versions of Lex appeared throughout the Domain, moving independently across the endless field, but they were not true copies of him; each one was formed entirely from pure Nihil energy, manifestations of End given his shape.

They attacked relentlessly.

Every Nihil Lex carried the nature of destruction, tearing through anything that entered their reach and reducing it toward nothingness. Yet destruction was only the first half of the Domain's function, because every fragment of existence destroyed by those manifestations was traced back toward the original Lex at the center. The ruined matter, energy and properties did not simply vanish; Creator reconstructed them within Lex, causing the characteristics of whatever had been destroyed to be recreated inside him as new traits.

The Domain was therefore not simply a place where things were destroyed.

It was a cycle of End and Creation, with Nihility reducing everything to its final state while Creator took what remained and made it part of Lex.
