the magical girls of war: Obsessive Tendencies

Chapter 45: Diner for Nine

The girls walked into the only restaurant left standing that was still open.

a classic, neon-lit 24-hour diner. The three soldiers filed in right after them, their boots thudding against the linoleum.

A lone waitress shuffled over. She looked completely terrified by the chaotic sounds of the battle that had just occurred outside, but she also looked like she would rather be fast asleep at the moment. She blinked at the mismatched group. "Table for... nine?"

They all just nodded in unison.

To say they looked like they had just walked out of a warzone would be an understatement-they literally had. The waitress wisely chose not to comment on their appearance, especially since the girl dressed in white had a massive crimson bloodstain on her sleeve from a fresh shoulder wound that was only just beginning to close.

As she grabbed a stack of menus, the waitress suddenly recognized the others. These were the magical girls from the viral videos she had seen earlier-the ones who had fought off aliens and what she had originally assumed were just people in fake werewolf costumes. But after witnessing the dark knight literally tear the streets apart with his bare hands and smash armored tanks with a red katana, she knew better.

Once everyone was seated and flipping through their menus, Suki politely raised her hand. "Excuse me, do you happen to serve traditional miso soup?"

The waitress paused, sweating under the stoic gaze of the samurai. "We... we have soy sauce packets?"

Suki looked deeply displeased. "I'll just have the french fries."

The waitress nodded profusely, her hands trembling as she scribbled it down.

Sensing the tension, Alice immediately stepped in with a brilliant, radiant smile. "What do you recommend here?"

The sheer charm of the smile hit the poor waitress like a flashbang. She blushed furiously, her voice cracking. "Uh... uh... the breakfast platter! It's cheap, and it's really delicious..."

Before Alice could answer, Bianca leaned back in her booth, looking over the top of her menu. "Do you have alcohol?"

The waitress's eyes popped out of her head. "Excuse me?!!"

Tom immediately reached over and smacked Bianca's menu down. "Ignore her. She is on duty, and she absolutely cannot drink."

Ari and Bianca both let out a loud, unified groan of annoyed protest.
