Chapter 578: Ch 197 - Second Battle
Lei Wu Bei's lips curved into a cold sneer the instant the Snake King finished speaking. The faint amusement in her tone only sharpened his vigilance. Without another word, his wrist flicked sideways, and the exceptionally long blade in his hand swept across the air with ruthless precision.
The strike was neither hurried nor flamboyant.
It was clean, decisive, and utterly merciless.
Two thin streaks of light intersected midair, crossing like fleeting bolts of lightning. A sharp chi-chi sound split the silence.
For a fraction of a breath, nothing seemed to have happened.
Then two chopstick-sized snakes, so small that they had been nearly invisible against the shifting dust of the battlefield, separated cleanly into four writhing pieces. The severed segments fell to the ground and twisted violently before withering into lifeless coils.
Lei Wu Bei's gaze hardened. "You are genuinely worthy of your sinister reputation, Snake King!"
His dark face had drained slightly of color. Those two tiny creatures carried venom so potent that even a Great Master would not emerge unscathed.
A single bite would not have killed him outright, but paralysis would have seized his limbs for one or two breaths. In a duel between experts of this level, one breath was enough to decide eternity.
The Snake King's eyes widened in exaggerated innocence as she clasped her hands lightly together. "You accuse me wrongly. What would people make of it?"
She tilted her head and glanced at the fragments on the ground. "Oh, what's that? It's quite dreadful."
Her tone was soft and melodious, as if she were commenting on a broken flower rather than lethal venom.
A sudden bang shattered the air as Lei Wu Bei's blade struck the ground once more. Another snake, even thinner and faster than the first pair, had shot forward like a shadowless arrow, its fangs aimed directly at his throat. It had not cast so much as a ripple in the sunlight. If not for his instinct honed through decades of bloodshed, that silent strike would have ended him in a gruesome stillness.
Jun Mo Xie exhaled slowly from the sidelines, his eyes gleaming. "Sweet words and silent death. She truly lives up to her title."
The Snake King's waist twisted gracefully, her movements fluid as flowing water. Her delicate figure spun once, twice, and then her sleeves erupted outward. The long green silk unfurled with astonishing speed, extending impossibly far until it resembled two vast emerald dragons roaring into existence. Each sleeve stretched over twenty meters, its edges rippling like scales beneath a storm wind.
A powerful gale whistled as the green silk lashed outward, coiling and sweeping until the entire space around Lei Wu Bei was swallowed in a churning ocean of jade. The field vanished beneath waves of green that surged and folded in relentless rhythm.
This was no longer playful probing.
This was the new Snake King revealing her fangs.
Within that roiling sea, Lei Wu Bei stood like a black reef resisting a tidal assault. His silhouette did not retreat, nor did it sway. He planted his feet firmly against the earth, blade held diagonally before him as green currents crashed from every direction.
A low roar vibrated through the battlefield as the Snake King's offensive intensified. Her slender form lifted lightly from the ground, rising above the emerald tide. From below, it seemed as though a celestial maiden had descended to dance upon storm-tossed waves. Her movements were impossibly elegant, every turn of her wrist and shift of her ankle precise beyond imagination.
She flipped her hand upward, and countless silver points ignited in the air.
They shimmered like scattered starlight, glittering with deceptive beauty before flashing again and raining downward in a dense, airtight formation. Each tiny glint carried the promise of poison and death.
Yet her expression remained one of innocent delight, as if she were merely enjoying a playful contest beneath a summer sky.
Lei Wu Bei could no longer remain entrenched.
A dark rumble echoed from his chest as his blade erupted into motion. The long weapon carved intersecting arcs through the green ocean, releasing waves of silver-white aura that burst outward like sea spray under a crashing tide. The brilliance of his Xuan Qi split through the encircling silk, momentarily parting the jade sea into jagged corridors of light.
The blades of condensed aura shot upward, crisscrossing the sky.
The Great Masters observing from the perimeter stiffened simultaneously. Almost as one, they raised their own Xuan Qi barriers, forming invisible shields before their bodies. Even the stray remnants of Lei Wu Bei's blade energy were powerful enough to scuttle through ordinary defenses and carve a path of blood among the bystanders.
One who wished to injure others must be prepared to pay double the price himself, yet such destructive force could not be entirely contained.
Jun Wu Yi's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "He's forcing her to commit."
The Snake King's laughter gradually faded, and the playful curve of her lips straightened. Her white jade-like arms began to move faster, weaving intricate patterns through the air. Her legs stepped lightly upon invisible footholds, maintaining balance above the surging green currents.
The countless cold stars she had released began to converge.
One by one, they gathered into a flowing stream, merging into a brilliant beam that pulsed with concentrated venomous intent. The ray of light pierced downward, slicing through the churning chaos with terrifying precision.
From a distance, the battlefield looked almost enchanting.
The silver-white spray burst from the center of a vast emerald sea. Bright, cold light shone overhead like a constellation drawn too close to Earth. The entire spectacle resembled an ethereal painting.
It looked serene, mesmerizing, and impossibly beautiful.
Yet beneath that beauty lurked killing intent so dense it suffocated the air.
Jun Mo Xie folded his arms, a faint grin tugging at his lips. "If beauty could be measured in corpses, she would be unmatched."
Sikong An Ye let out a low whistle. "And if stubbornness were measured in steel, Lei Wu Bei would rival a mountain."
Suddenly, a sharp scream tore through the air.
Lei Wu Bei's black silhouette surged upward, splitting the green tide like a silver-white blade piercing water. The motion was explosive, unstoppable. It was as though a fountain had erupted from the heart of the jade ocean, soaring toward the heavens in dazzling brilliance.
His blade glowed fiercely in the sunlight, radiating an aura of unyielding resolve. There was no retreat in his stance, no hesitation in his charge. He cut through the air with brazen determination, intent on seizing the advantage from above.
The Snake King's eyes flashed. Her sleeves snapped upward to follow, emerald dragons coiling skyward in pursuit.
"The true battle starts now," Someone murmured from the hillside.
No one dared to blink even for a second.
Every gaze locked onto the two figures suspended between heaven and earth, where silver and green collided in a breathtaking dance of venom and steel.
