Chapter 98: Rapunzel’s Tears, Healing

Levi had spent quite a bit of time searching for the Magic Herb Garden and Rapunzel.

But bringing Rapunzel back was much faster when he was flying at full speed while channeling all of his Magic Power.

By dusk, he had transformed into a Human-Faced Demon Owl and returned to the castle in Coldwind Keep Town, carrying Rapunzel on his back.

Inside the room.

Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf-eared girl, and Miss Odelle the Nightingale remained constantly at Rune's bedside.

Yet Rune's condition continued to deteriorate. His breathing grew weaker and weaker, and he was already hovering on the brink of death.

Little Red Riding Hood and Odelle were frantic with worry, but there was nothing they could do. Despair filled their hearts.

Then Levi returned.

To the two women, he was like the only ray of light in the darkness. Their eyes immediately lit up as they looked toward him. Though neither spoke, countless emotions were reflected in their gazes.

Levi did not respond.

The moment he saw Rune's condition, his expression darkened. He stepped aside and let Rapunzel enter.

"Lord Levi, who is this?" Miss Odelle asked hoarsely, a thought flashing through her mind.

"The person I brought to save Rune's life," Levi replied casually, his gaze fixed on the unconscious and dying Sky Knight.

At those words, hope immediately appeared in Little Red Riding Hood's and Odelle's eyes.

Rapunzel, however, wore a grave expression.

She walked over to Rune's bedside and carefully examined the bloody wound in his body. As though sharing his pain, her eyes immediately grew moist.

"Levi, your friend is hurt far too badly. My abilities are limited. I'm afraid I can't save him."

The moment those words were spoken, Little Red Riding Hood's and Odelle's hearts sank.

Little Red Riding Hood's eyes immediately reddened again.

Rapunzel's eyes reddened as well.

Looking at Rune with a pained expression, she said, "I'm sorry! He must be in so much pain!"

Tears flowed from Rapunzel's eyes like pearls, falling endlessly onto Rune's wounds.

Those tears seemed to contain a miraculous power.

Rune's injuries began visibly improving before their eyes.

Levi noticed it immediately. Blue light flickered in his eyes as he activated Detection.

He had not been mistaken.

Rune's wounds were indeed improving.

More precisely, they had stopped getting worse.

But that still was not enough to heal him completely.

Because Rapunzel's tears contained the power of healing.

As mentioned before, when Rapunzel's mother was pregnant with her, she had eaten the Donkey Cabbages lettuce specially provided by the witch of the Magic Herb Garden.

That magical lettuce could not turn people into donkeys, but it possessed other powers. Those powers accumulated within Rapunzel and ultimately became her unique innate gift—her tears possessed healing power.

In other words, Rapunzel herself was a humanoid treasure.

That was the information revealed by Detection, and it caused Levi's thoughts to stir.

Without drawing attention to himself, he moved closer to Rapunzel.

He wanted to conduct an experiment.

His hand "accidentally" brushed against Rapunzel before coming to rest on Rune's cheek, where he flicked away a speck of dust that did not actually exist.

Sniffling as she cried, Rapunzel said sadly, "I'm sorry, Levi. I've failed your expectations. I can't heal your friend."

"Thank you. You've already done more than enough."

After a brief silence, Levi comforted her.

"I'm sorry."

Rapunzel continued crying. Her tears kept dripping onto Rune's wounds.

She still blamed herself.

What a pure... innocent girl.

She said, "I'll go find my godmother. With her abilities, she might be able to save your friend's life."

Levi shook his head.

Looking at Rapunzel seriously, he said, "Thank you, Rapunzel. You've truly already done enough."

"Leave the rest to me."

Little Red Riding Hood and Odelle saw Rapunzel in this state, and their own eyes reddened as well.

"Thank you, kind girl," they said.

"I'm sorry..." Rapunzel replied through her tears.

Before long, the girls were all crying together.

Levi shook his head inwardly, feeling utterly baffled.

Could crying solve anything?

Uh...

In Rapunzel's case, it actually could.

Still, it was no longer necessary.

Because Levi's Origin Energy had already entered Rapunzel's body and returned without her noticing, bringing back a new spell crystal to his Sea of Souls—

Healing.

This was now the tenth spell crystal within Levi's Sea of Souls.

Judging purely by the number of spell crystals, he had already met the minimum standard of a Fourth-Ring Wizard.

But Levi knew very well that he still had a long way to go before reaching the true level of a Fourth-Ring Wizard.

The appearance of Healing further strengthened his Sea of Souls, though only slightly.

After all, the Healing he had just acquired was only Level 1.

With a thought, Magic Power flowed out.

A soft white glow appeared in his hand, radiating a warm and gentle energy.

Everyone present froze in surprise.

Only Rapunzel could sense the vitality contained within that white light.

Levi looked at them and gently placed his hand over Rune's wound.

Several minutes later, the light in his hand faded away.

The bloody hole in Rune's body seemed to have changed.

Or perhaps it hadn't.

"Lord Levi, will Uncle Rune get better?" the wolf-eared girl Little Red Riding Hood asked, her eyes red as she looked at him pleadingly.

Levi shook his head.

The light immediately vanished from Little Red Riding Hood's and Odelle's eyes.

Then Levi's voice reached their ears.

"He will. But it will take time."

By now, Rapunzel had stopped crying. Surprise filled her eyes as she looked at Levi.

"Your spell... seems very similar to my..."

Of course it is. I copied it from you.

But that was the greatest secret Levi possessed.

There was no way he could reveal it.

So he simply nodded.

"Yes. It's Healing."

"I don't think your spell can cure him," Rapunzel said hesitantly.

"That's why I went looking for you."

"I'm sorry. I disappointed you."

Rapunzel immediately looked embarrassed again, as though everything were somehow her fault.

What an innocent... innocent girl.

"I'll go find my godmother. If she's willing to help, she can save him."

At those words, hope rekindled in Little Red Riding Hood's and Odelle's eyes.

Rapunzel's godmother was most likely out trying to save Snow White right now. There was no telling when she would return.

By the time she did, Levi would no longer need her help.

After a moment's thought, he said to Rapunzel, "I need time to increase the power of this spell. As long as you can keep Rune's condition stable and prevent it from worsening, that'll be enough."

"Just give me time."

Levi spoke with complete confidence.

Then he turned toward Rapunzel.

"So, Rapunzel, you're very important."

"Me?"

Rapunzel blinked in surprise.

Levi nodded.

"I need you to help maintain Rune's condition and keep it from getting worse. Cry for a while... I mean, keep it up for a while."

"Ah! Alright."

Under Levi's gaze, Rapunzel agreed.

Levi nodded in satisfaction.

"Then I'm counting on you."

He then turned to Little Red Riding Hood and Odelle.

"You two should take turns resting. Otherwise, you won't be able to keep going much longer."

The two women fell silent for a moment before nodding as well.

Levi said nothing more and returned to his room.

He still needed to continue practicing Healing and raise its level.

The reason he wasn't using Rune as a training target was that Healing couldn't be cast repeatedly on the same person.

Overuse would not heal Rune's injuries.

It might actually kill him.

That was information Levi had obtained from the spell crystal of Healing.

He didn't stay in his room for long.

Soon, he transformed into a nightingale and flew out of the castle toward the field hospital.

During the time Levi had been away, the fighting had never truly stopped.

Knights had charged forward at the risk of their lives.

Soldiers had stood their ground to the death.

Casualties had continued to mount on both sides.

On Yalina's side, the wounded were being carried to the rear and cared for according to the system Levi had established earlier.

But Hornreach still had no doctors.

They could only rely on themselves to pull through.

If they endured, they lived.

If they couldn't, they died.

That was the only option before.

But now Levi possessed Healing.

Things were different.

Levi could offer them a sliver of hope.

Night fell.

He moved among the unconscious wounded, casting Healing again and again.

The level of Healing was low, while Levi's own realm was high. As a result, every cast granted a large amount of experience.

Very quickly, the level of Levi's Healing increased.

The Magic Power consumed by Level 2 Healing was still negligible for someone like Levi.

So he continued casting Healing among the wounded.

It had to be said that Level 2 Healing was vastly superior to Level 1.

Level 1 Healing could only treat minor injuries.

What counted as a minor injury?

If a needle pricked your finger and drew blood, that was a minor injury.

In fact, if you waited a little while, it would probably heal on its own.

Completely useless.

Level 2 Healing, on the other hand, was much stronger. It could produce respectable results on more serious injuries.

Levi made another round through the field hospital.

Many wounded soldiers who had been grimacing in pain visibly relaxed when the light of Level 2 Healing passed over them.

He continued casting it over and over.

The experience points for Healing kept increasing.

By midnight, Levi's Healing had already reached Level 4—the standard of a First-Ring Spell.

Only then did its rate of improvement begin to slow.

A Level 4 Healing, equivalent to a First-Ring Spell, was already remarkably powerful.

Levi walked through the field hospital once more.

Many injuries—including infections and fevers—rapidly receded beneath the light of Healing.
