Chapter 68: The Power of Third-Ring Detection
After advancing to a Third-Ring Wizard, Levi discovered a significant change. Whenever he cast a spell, he could clearly sense the process of the magic power within his body using the spell crystal model to pry at the external forces of the world, as though he were personally experiencing it firsthand.
This was something he had never experienced back when he was a First-Ring Wizard or a Second-Ring Wizard.
The greatest benefit this change brought Levi was that whenever he cast spells below the Third-Ring level, the experience gained increased.
In essence, his mastery over spells deepened.
In the past, casting a spell once might only grant Levi 1 point of experience. Now, it could be 2 points, 3 points, or when certain special insights were triggered, it might even grant 10 or 20 points at once.
As a result, the leveling speed of Levi's spells would increase tremendously.
For other Third-Ring Wizards, this ability merely helped them master lower-tier spells more quickly. The spell crystals already formed within their Sea of Souls could not be changed unless they obtained some special treasure capable of allowing them to "respec."
But for Levi, as long as his mastery over spells deepened, the levels of those spells could continue rising.
A normal Third-Ring Wizard might only possess four spell crystals within their Sea of Souls—perhaps one Third-Ring, two Second-Ring, and one First-Ring.
But Levi?
Even if he also only had four spell crystals—though in reality he had far more than that—all four of those spell crystals could be raised to the Third-Ring level.
The gap in strength widened instantly.
This ability was downright monstrous.
If those high-ranking wizards discovered it, they would probably dissect him on the spot.
Levi felt an intense sense of insecurity. He decided he needed to stay low-profile and absolutely not expose his secret.
Otherwise, not even Jesus himself would be able to save him.
Of course, the levels of his spells still had to be raised.
If Levi could raise all his spells to the Third-Ring level, and Third-Ring spells could freely control their power output, then even if a high-ring wizard stood right in front of him, they would never discover Levi's secret—as long as Levi did not "expose all his cards."
Naturally, he would never do something like that.
Only an idiot would.
Levi muttered to himself inwardly.
He withdrew his attention and focused on the five pieces of intelligence before him.
[Intelligence One: The Magic Mirror Queen is searching for another opportunity to assassinate Snow White.]
[Intelligence Two: A high-ranking inquisitor from the Inquisition discovered something wrong within the Black Forest. He is furious, believing you deliberately misled him. Using some kind of divine art to pinpoint your location, he is currently rushing toward you at full speed.]
[Intelligence Three: The Silverclaw Viscount has become fearful because of the strength you revealed and has secretly chosen to side with the Kingdom of Valeria. The Kingdom of Valeria's goal is the entire Duchy of Silverbrook, and your territory is their primary target for destruction.]
[Intelligence Four: The terrifying aura deep within the Mist Swamp is becoming increasingly intense. Large numbers of Kobold tribes have migrated toward the outer regions, and they are now facing a food shortage crisis.]
[Intelligence Five: The witch who transformed Odelle into a nightingale is considering using the power of the Magic Castle to recall the nightingales serving as messengers in the outside world. If Odelle does not return, she will suffer backlash from the castle's power—her heart will rupture, and her soul will dissipate.]
…
When Levi saw the first piece of intelligence, he was speechless.
The Magic Mirror Queen was still searching for chances to assassinate Snow White after all this time. Fairy tales were not supposed to go like this. He did not know whether this was because of him or if things had originally been this way.
Levi shook his head inwardly and stopped paying attention to that intelligence. As long as the trajectory of fate remained unchanged, Snow White would not die so easily.
He shifted his gaze toward the other intelligence reports.
Intelligence Two was something Levi took seriously.
That Church inquisitor whom he had accidentally misled all the way to the Black Forest thousands of kilometers away…
Was now coming to kill him.
He wondered how strong the other party was.
Levi pondered for a moment before looking toward the now Third-Ring-level Detection and activating it with a thought.
Ever since this spell advanced to the Third-Ring level, Levi had not truly used it yet.
The previous five pieces of intelligence did not count—that was intelligence gathered while Detection was still only a Second-Ring spell.
Now Levi wanted to see exactly what this spell was capable of.
Although using Detection earlier for intelligence gathering had consumed the vast majority of his Magic Power, after advancing into a Third-Ring Wizard, his Spiritual Power had only increased slightly, yet his perception of the external aetheric mystical elements had grown tremendously stronger.
As a result, even his Magic Power recovery speed had increased drastically.
Even without entering a meditative state, Levi had already recovered a considerable amount of Magic Power.
In the past, recovering all of his Magic Power required most of the night—or even longer—spent meditating.
But now, according to Levi's own estimation, it would probably only take one or two hours to fully recover all his Magic Power.
Of course, if he wanted to improve his Spiritual Power, he still needed meditation. And after reaching the level of a Third-Ring Wizard, the speed of Spiritual Power growth would slow once more. Unless Levi's Sea of Souls underwent another strengthening, the growth speed from meditation would not increase again.
For other Third-Ring Wizards, this would be extremely difficult—difficult enough to write an entire Wizard Survival Chronicle about.
But for Levi, it was actually quite simple.
As long as the levels of his other spells increased, each improvement would strengthen his Sea of Souls once. After enough enhancements, the growth speed of his Spiritual Power would naturally rise as well.
But that was a matter for another time.
Levi focused his attention on Detection.
Because the Magic Power within his body had already recovered enough to cast Detection again, he did not hesitate in the slightest. Consuming Magic Power, he activated the spell that had now reached the level of a Third-Ring spell.
The target Levi wanted to detect was the high-ranking Church inquisitor mentioned in Intelligence Two.
In an instant, Levi felt his consciousness pass through layers upon layers of space.
He "saw" a solitary figure standing within a small clearing in the forest.
His face was stern and rigid, appearing to be around thirty years old. His jawline was taut and sharp, while his skin carried the pale complexion of someone who rarely saw sunlight.
The moment Levi saw him, his name and related information surfaced in his mind automatically—
Karen, a high-ranking inquisitor of the Church Inquisition, with strength comparable to a Third-Ring Wizard.
This was all thanks to the Third-Ring spell Detection.
His eyes were as deep as icy abysses, and faint golden halos of holy light shimmered around the edges of his pupils. That was the mark left behind by long years of practicing divine arts and resonating with Holy Light.
Karen stood straight as a spear, dressed in a sharply tailored set of dark silver Church-issued light armor. The armor carried no unnecessary ornamentation. Only the chest and shoulder areas were engraved with dense sacred prayers and cross-shaped holy emblems.
The edges of the armor plates had been sharpened to razor precision, while a faint flow of soft holy radiance circulated across their surface.
This was a treasure.
Levi could "see" that as well.
Enhanced by Church divine arts, it could resist low-tier magic and the corruption of evil entities, while remaining light and silent during movement.
Over the armor, he wore a pure black inquisitor's cloak. The fabric was thick and windproof, while the collar and cuffs were embroidered with holy emblem patterns woven from golden thread. The lower hem of the cloak hung all the way to his ankles, concealing his footprints while walking, and at night it blended perfectly into darkness.
This was a powerful existence.
Stronger than many Third-Ring Wizard-level figures.
And also stronger than Levi, who had only just entered the Third-Ring Wizard realm.
After all, Levi only possessed a single Third-Ring spell with absolutely no offensive capability—Detection—while the other party had mastered numerous powerful divine arts.
Although Levi's Third-Ring spell, Detection, possessed no offensive power whatsoever, it was actually more useful than many Third-Ring spells and divine arts.
Because in that instant, Levi had even detected the various divine arts Karen possessed—
Holy Light Shield, Purification, Holy Judgment, Sacred Word Intimidation, and his strongest ability—
Flames of Heretic Judgment.
That was an extremely powerful divine art capable of inflicting severe damage even against Third-Ring defensive spells.
Levi understood that he was currently no match for him.
Of course, if Levi wanted to flee, the other party would have no way to stop him.
Because Levi could fly.
Still, unless absolutely necessary, Levi had no intention of running away.
He still had time.
If, before the other party arrived, Levi could raise the levels and power of his other spells, then it would be difficult to say who would emerge victorious in the end.
But before that, there was something else Levi needed to do.
The illusion before his eyes vanished.
Levi returned to his senses and immediately transformed into a nightingale before flying out of the castle.
Naturally, he was not planning to repeat the same trick—flying far away to lure the high-ranking Church inquisitor Karen elsewhere and buy himself more development time.
The same trick only worked once against someone like him.
The other party would not fall for it a second time.
Levi had thought of another method.
It was the solution he had just discovered using the Third-Ring-level Detection spell.
Using Gathering Technique, he gathered various filthy substances and smeared them all over his body. Then he entered the Mist Swamp, killed a fine horse, sliced open its belly, and climbed inside.
After an entire night passed, just before dawn arrived, Levi crawled out from the horse's carcass.
Using Gathering Technique, he extracted all the filth from his body—including his clothes—and stuffed everything into the horse's belly before burning the dead horse completely to ashes.
After doing all this, Levi suddenly felt his soul grow lighter.
Good.
Now the other party could no longer use divine arts to track him.
At most, he would only retain a vague direction.
But by the time he finally arrived at Levi's territory, who knew how long it would take?
Maybe very soon.
Or maybe three to five months.
And if it really took three to five months, then the one who should be worried would no longer be Levi—
But the other party instead.
Standing naked, Levi's lips curved slightly upward.
He looked toward another direction.
Now he could finally deal with Miss Odelle's problem first.
Using Detection, Levi had already discovered the solution.
But before that, he needed to raise Nightingale Polymorph to the level of a Third-Ring spell.
