Chapter 52: Battle Between the High-Tier Werewolf and the Sky Knight
Because Levi's current level in Synthesis was still low, he could only synthesize relatively basic things for now.
Once the level of his [Synthesis] improved, the range of things he could do with it would become far greater.
Of course, Yalina didn't know that.
Outside, the voice of Sky Knight Rune Winter rang out.
"Yalina, need a hand?"
For some reason, the moment Yalina heard the Sky Knight's voice, she immediately felt like he sounded strangely sleazy.
Snapping back to her senses, she replied, "Yes, there's a bit too much stuff."
"Come help me carry some of it."
Sky Knight Rune Winter froze for a moment. Honestly, he had thought Levi was just putting on airs and was afraid of embarrassing himself, so he had deliberately said those things about endless bread, ham, and wine to give Levi a way out.
But he hadn't expected Yalina to respond like that.
Could it be that the two of them had secretly been hiding a bunch of delicious food from him all this time?
That was too much!
Rune immediately felt a little annoyed.
He walked over beside the carriage and saw Yalina lifting the curtain and handing him one beautifully made cake after another.
Just as he thought.
They really had been hiding good stuff from him instead of sharing it.
And here he was, practically wearing his heart on his sleeve with them earlier.
Rune felt deeply wounded. His eyes widened, and in that instant, he made up his mind that later, he was absolutely going to eat his fill and make up for it.
As for the other villagers, once they saw the fine food and wine Yalina and Rune were carrying out, they completely believed Levi's identity.
Food this exquisite carried the unmistakable aura of nobility. One glance was enough to tell that ordinary people could never hope to eat something like this.
Even the village steward had never seen such food on the local lord's dining table.
This had to be a noble far more exalted than the local lord! the steward thought to himself.
Meanwhile, when Madam Laura saw the cakes and wine Levi had brought out, her face flushed slightly.
Her own "cakes" were really closer to sweet flatbreads mixed with honey and dried fruit. Compared to the modern-style cakes Levi had created with Synthesis, they simply weren't on the same level.
The appearance alone was enough to leave these low-productivity villagers astonished.
Even Laura's family wine could not compare to the several kinds of alcohol Levi had brought out.
One of the red wines, in particular, was so pure and clear that it resembled a ruby, while Laura's homemade wine looked somewhat cloudy in comparison.
Normally, her wine would already be considered first-rate within the village.
But next to Levi's wine, it seemed terribly crude.
...
Levi said to Yalina, "Yalina, distribute these cakes and wine among everyone here. This is their reward."
Refusing was simply impossible.
After receiving the cakes and wine Yalina handed out, the village steward and the several villagers present were overjoyed. They repeatedly thanked Levi, to the point that they practically wanted to kneel down and kiss his boots.
They genuinely would have done it too, though Levi would definitely have found it disgusting.
He turned his gaze toward Karaf and Laura.
They had also received gifts from Levi, and theirs were among the larger portions.
Karaf and Laura were overwhelmed with gratitude.
Laura said to Levi, "Noble sir, thank you for your generosity. May I keep these foods aside? I have a daughter, and she's never tasted anything this delicious before. I want to save some for her to try."
After Levi brought out all these things, any remaining suspicion toward him had completely vanished. Laura had even begun addressing him directly as "noble sir."
"Oh? You have a daughter?" Levi's heart stirred slightly. "Then call her out. I'll give her another portion."
Laura gave a bitter smile and replied, "I'm sorry, noble sir. My daughter's grandmother fell ill, so I sent her to bring her some food. She's been gone for an entire day already, and now it's getting dark, but she still hasn't returned."
"Oh? Does your daughter's grandmother live in the village? If that's the case, there's no need to worry. Children are always a little playful," Levi said.
"Noble sir, if that were the case, I wouldn't be this worried. But my daughter's grandmother—my mother—dislikes noisy villages. After my father passed away, she moved into the forest beside the village to live alone."
"It's getting dark." As Laura spoke, she anxiously glanced at the darkening sky.
"It really is getting dark. You're right." Levi also looked up at the sky.
After a brief silence, he said to Laura, "In that case, I'll help you look for your daughter."
"How could we possibly allow that?" Karaf waved his hands repeatedly after hearing that. "How could we trouble someone as noble as you with something like this?"
"My daughter is probably staying at her grandmother's place tonight. She'll come back tomorrow morning."
Although worry still lingered in Laura's eyes, she also nodded and said to Levi, "Yes, noble sir, it should be like that."
"Please come inside and get some proper rest first."
But how could Levi possibly listen to them?
His expression immediately turned stern.
"Tell me where your daughter's grandmother lives."
"We're going into the forest to find her right now."
"This won't take long!"
"I'll leave the carriage here. You can settle it properly and prepare the rooms for me. We'll be back soon," Levi said.
"How could we—"
Before Karaf could finish speaking, he saw the severe look in Levi's eyes and immediately felt a jolt of fear. He quickly changed his words.
"Noble sir, my daughter's grandmother lives beneath three great oak trees in the forest. There's also a walnut hedge around the place, so it's easy to find."
"You just need to follow the main road through the forest for a while, and you'll see it."
"Oh, right. She especially loves the little red cap her grandmother gave her, so everyone calls her Little Red Riding Hood."
"If you call out 'Little Red Riding Hood,' and she's nearby, she'll answer you, sir."
"All right then." Levi nodded and said to Yalina, "Let's head into the forest and help these worried parents bring their child back."
After saying that, he turned and walked straight toward the forest.
Although Yalina found it strange, her body instinctively followed after him. As for Miss Nightingale, there was even less need to mention her—she simply flew onto Yalina's shoulder.
The moment Sky Knight Rune Winter saw this, he immediately suspected that Levi was sneaking off to get more good food behind his back, so he decisively followed along as well.
Only the alchemy carriage remained behind.
The village steward, Karaf, Laura, and the several villagers all exchanged looks, each feeling that something about the situation was rather strange. For a long while, nobody spoke.
In the end, it was still the village steward who broke the silence.
"Karaf, since that noble sir has gone to help you search for your child, you should properly settle the carriage he left behind and feed it the finest fodder."
"Don't worry, I will. I'll even feed it the same beans people eat," Karaf said seriously.
"Mm." The village steward nodded. His gaze then fell onto the cake portion he had received, and a complicated light flickered in his eyes.
"This is food for nobles..."
"As expected, it's truly extraordinary. I can feel a kind of noble refinement coming from it," the village steward murmured.
The other villagers nodded deeply in agreement.
...
After leaving the village, Levi quickly headed deeper into the forest.
Yalina and Rune followed closely behind him.
Their speed was extremely fast. In the blink of an eye, they had already left the village far behind.
"Where exactly are we going?" Yalina finally could not hold herself back any longer and asked Levi.
"Didn't I already say so? We're helping those villagers search for their daughter who hasn't returned," Levi replied without even turning his head.
"Really?" Yalina's face was full of disbelief.
Levi did not answer.
Seeing this, Yalina fell silent for a moment before asking another question.
"Where did all those things come from?"
"What things?" Levi spoke again this time.
"Those unusual cakes and all those different wines. I'm certain that before noon, none of those things were inside your carriage," Yalina said.
The moment food was mentioned, even Rune's attention shifted over.
"Made them this afternoon," Levi said.
"How did you make them? That's impossible! You don't even have an oven." Yalina sounded utterly incredulous, and her voice rose a little.
"That, of course, is the charm of magic," Levi said before suddenly making a quieting gesture.
Only then did they realize that they had already arrived at Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house.
The door stood open.
Inside, they could vaguely see a large furry creature lying on a bed.
Its stomach was even bigger than that of a woman ten months pregnant.
At that moment, alerted by Yalina's voice, the creature inside sat up from the bed.
What kind of face was it?
Vertical pupils glowing green.
A protruding snout.
And razor-sharp fangs!
It was Yalina's first time seeing a monster like a werewolf, and she jumped in fright.
And in that very instant, the wolf inside the house shot out like a cannonball. Its claws were as sharp as blades, carrying a foul, bloody wind as it lunged forward, arriving before Levi and the others in the blink of an eye.
The creature's speed was simply too fast—so fast that it completely exceeded the reaction limits of Yalina, a Great Knight.
At that moment, however, the sloppy and vaguely disreputable-looking Rune Winter—whom Yalina had secretly looked down on—suddenly erupted with a speed no less terrifying than that of the werewolf. Swinging his fists like thunder and raging wind, he charged forward and clashed head-on with the creature.
This High-Tier Werewolf possessed astonishing strength. A single swipe of its claws could easily smash a person's head into their chest, turning them into a heap of bloody pulp. Thick trees could be snapped in half with one blow, and its sharp claws could even pierce straight through stone.
As for Rune Winter, as a Sky Knight, he no longer looked sloppy or sleazy like before. He unleashed equally astonishing combat power. Cyan currents swirled around his fists—power overflowing from the Life Energy Seed within him after erupting outward through his body. Combined with his Storm Battle Technique, his attacks crashed forth like storm-driven tidal waves, carrying devastating destructive force. The High-Tier Werewolf was struck several times, its body visibly caving inward from the blows.
Yet the werewolf's regenerative ability was horrifying beyond belief. In merely a few blinks, its injuries had completely recovered.
By comparison, although Rune Winter's own healing ability far surpassed that of ordinary people, it still could not compare to a monster like a werewolf. One careless moment had allowed a wolf claw to graze his shoulder, and even now, the wound still throbbed faintly with pain.
However, the High-Tier Werewolf also had its disadvantages.
It relied mainly on brute force and speed, lacking the refined technique and structure of Rune Winter's combat style, making it difficult for the creature to truly land a solid hit on him.
At present, the two sides were locked in a stalemate. Their speed was as swift as a gale, their figures like shadows rapidly colliding and separating. The ground beneath them had been stomped into deep craters by the explosive force of their footwork.
Even the aftermath of the battle felt like blades cutting through the air. Simply approaching was painful. Miss Nightingale Odelle was far too fragile for this kind of fight and had already flown far away, not daring to interfere at all.
Yalina, relying on the physique of a Great Knight, only dared watch from the outer edge of the battlefield. Of course, her greater source of confidence was the mysterious Wizard Lord Levi standing beside her.
As long as he was there, Yalina felt certain she would not encounter mortal danger—assuming Levi still wanted her as his coachman.
Still, the speed of the battle was simply too fast. Even with her eyes opened wide, Yalina could only vaguely follow what was happening.
Moving closer to Levi, she exclaimed in amazement, "So Sky Knights are actually this powerful!"
"Mm." Levi nodded. The physical attributes of a Sky Knight had already surpassed 10 points, forming a transcendent physique. Naturally, they were extraordinary beings.
"What exactly is that monster?" Yalina asked curiously, like an inquisitive child.
"It's a werewolf. And not just any werewolf—a High-Tier Werewolf among the werewolf race, a Moonchaser," Levi replied calmly.
Yalina already knew there seemed to be nothing Levi did not know.
She continued, "That High-Tier Werewolf is terrifying! Why did it appear here? And why is its stomach so huge?"
"It came to hunt Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother. As for why its stomach is so swollen—it's because the creature swallowed both Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother whole," Levi explained.
Blue light flickered within his eyes as secrets concerning the werewolf and Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother surfaced before him.
"Why was it hunting Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother?" Yalina was especially curious about that.
"Because Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother is a princess of the werewolf race. She fell in love with an ordinary human and left the werewolf clan. The werewolves considered it a humiliation, and they've been searching for her all these years to carry out an honorary execution," Levi said flatly.
"Honorary execution? You mean eating her?" Yalina clearly could not understand that logic.
"Not exactly. The reason this High-Tier Werewolf swallowed Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother is because both of them possess the royal bloodline of the werewolf race. Their blood is exceptionally noble. By devouring them, this High-Tier Werewolf can obtain tremendous benefits—"
Before Levi could finish speaking, the High-Tier Werewolf suddenly let out a furious howl. It forcibly endured one of Rune Winter's attacks and savagely lunged toward Levi and Yalina.
In an instant, the massive shadow of the High-Tier Werewolf engulfed the two of them, its vicious pressure spreading outward.
Rune had not yet recovered his momentum from the previous exchange. It was already too late for him to provide support.
"Ah!" Yalina lacked real combat experience after all. She cried out, and at that critical instant, she actually stepped in front of Levi, closed her eyes, and prepared to use her own life to block the attack for him.
She could already smell the foul stench coming from the High-Tier Werewolf and feel the terrifying gale generated by its charge, as though she were facing the wrath of nature itself.
In that instant, Yalina's thoughts stretched out endlessly, and time itself seemed to slow down.
She could not help but think that she might die here tonight.
But Levi would not.
Would he find another coachman to replace her afterward?
Would Levi feel even the slightest sadness for her?
He probably would feel at least a little sad, Yalina thought to herself.
Then she suddenly felt something strange.
So much time had passed—why hadn't the werewolf's attack landed yet?
After hesitating briefly, she opened her eyes and discovered that the berserk High-Tier Werewolf had somehow been frozen in midair.
Its four limbs looked as though they were each being gripped by an invisible giant hand, locking the creature completely in place, unable to move in the slightest.
Behind the werewolf stood Sky Knight Rune Winter, his expression filled with complicated emotions.
Yalina's heart stirred slightly as she turned to look behind herself.
