Chapter 37: Level 4 Tide Arrow Frog

In the days that followed, Levi frequently went to the Emerald Forest, to the well, where he practiced [Polymorph: Frog].

With his full dedication, after seven days, Levi finally raised this spell to Level 4—reaching the standard of a First-Ring Spell.

At this stage, however, the improvement speed of this spell clearly slowed down.

Still, for Levi, a Level 4 [Polymorph: Frog] was already sufficient.

He consumed Magic Power, and a brilliant azure glow enveloped his entire body, rapidly expanding outward.

When the light faded, what appeared before him was a creature far larger than an ordinary frog:

It stood about half a human's height. Its deep blue skin was inlaid with pearl-like scales, its eyes swirling like vortices, and a tidal fin had grown along its back.

This tidal fin was the key to manipulating water flow underwater.

As a mid-tier First-Order magical creature, it was somewhat weaker than the similarly Level 4 Greater Demon Owl.

According to Detection, the Greater Demon Owl possessed the strength of a high-tier First-Order magical creature.

But Levi didn't mind. This also depended on the environment—underwater, no matter how strong the Greater Demon Owl was, it wouldn't be a match for this frog.

After a moment of thought, Levi gave this frog a name—

Tide Arrow Frog!

Having transcended the category of ordinary beasts and becoming a magical creature, although it still breathed through lungs and skin, the Tide Arrow Frog could survive underwater for several hours, or even longer.

Its skin could absorb enough oxygen from the water. As long as it didn't engage in intense activity, it could even remain submerged for an entire day without surfacing.

This made Levi's plan to hunt Silver Arrowfish feasible.

After reaching mid-tier First-Order, the Tide Arrow Frog gained several innate spell-like abilities, which provided strong support for Levi's next actions.

Its abilities were as follows—

Tidal Impact — Summons a straight stream of water to knock back enemies. The closer it is to water, the stronger the power.

Water Binding — Conjures water vines to entangle a target, restricting or even controlling their movements, and can even strangle them.

Water Membrane Shield — Summons a full-body shield like a layer of water film.

Rapid Water Arrows — Fires continuous water arrows, each one more powerful than the full-force strike of a Great Knight-level warrior.

With these abilities, Levi finally had the confidence to enter the underground river.

He looked toward the well. Having transformed into the Tide Arrow Frog, his vision had completely changed.

No longer the linear, focused sight of human eyes, but instead a wide, flattened field of vision with a strange sense of depth.

Colors became extraordinarily vivid to him—he could even perceive infrared wavelengths invisible to the human eye.

He had previously used Detection to examine it—the well led to an entrance connecting to an underground river.

The well walls were covered in slick moss, with droplets seeping through cracks in the stone, glistening like pearls under the faint daylight.

Levi leaped onto the edge of the well and immediately felt a call from deep underground—

The pulse of tides.

The whisper of the subterranean river.

The instinct of this body.

Water was no longer dangerous to him—it felt like a mother's embrace.

With a powerful kick from his hind legs, his body shot forward like a compressed spring released in an instant.

No air resistance—only a brief sense of weightlessness—

Then, with a splash, he plunged into the clear water at the bottom of the well.

Water instantly enveloped him.

As a Tide Arrow Frog, water was his second skin.

He didn't need to hold his breath like a human. The mucus layer on his skin automatically filtered impurities and efficiently carried out gas exchange.

With a gentle stroke of his webbed feet, his body darted downward like an arrow released from a bow.

The interior of the well was clearly visible to him.

His convex-lens frog eyes could capture even the faintest light refraction in absolute darkness.

He saw the moss-covered rocks at the bottom of the well.

Through his lateral line system, he sensed a subtle negative pressure current ahead—

A fissure.

A narrow passage carved by nature itself, leading toward the depths of the earth.

This was the entrance.

However, it was hidden and narrow—impassable.

But that didn't trouble Levi.

He activated one of the Tide Arrow Frog's innate abilities—

Rapid Water Arrows.

Three water-blue arrows appeared before him. With Levi's will, they shot fiercely toward that narrow, hidden entrance.

Amid a series of dull thuds, the water turned murky, and the entrance was blasted open into a large hole.

But that still wasn't enough.

Levi continued to cast [Rapid Water Arrows].

Arrow after arrow shot into the opening.

Finally, the passage was completely pierced through, and an even colder current surged in.

When everything settled, a passage large enough for Levi to pass through appeared before him.

Without the slightest hesitation, he swam forward like a blue cannonball, entering the opening. After navigating the winding path, some time later, he finally entered the underground river beneath the city.

The environment here was completely different from that lifeless ancient well.

The underground river was astonishingly wide. Above him stretched a natural cavern dome over a hundred meters high, with countless stalactites hanging down like the fangs of some colossal beast.

The water was not clear, but instead carried a murky dark-golden hue—the color of mineral-laden currents under faint light, not the rumored River of Silver Liquid.

The riverbed was covered with smooth pebbles, and the currents formed complex swirling patterns.

Levi swam close to the riverbed, using the Tide Arrow Frog's unique "silent swimming" technique. His body drifted like a fallen leaf with the current, not stirring a single unnecessary ripple.

He did not forget his objective—he began searching for prey.

There were quite a number of aquatic creatures living in this underground river.

Soon, Levi found his target.

Streaks of silver light darted through the water, as if they were about to dye the entire river silver under the dim glow.

They resembled long arrows—silver-scaled, as though clad in silver armor, with astonishing defensive power. Their bodies generally reached one to two meters in length, and their swimming speed was lightning-fast. The teeth in their mouths could easily bite through iron plates.

This was Levi's hunting target—

Silver Arrowfish, the overlord of this underground river.

In an environment with no natural predators, not only were they numerous, but they were also generally large in size and extremely ferocious.

At that moment, about three meters to Levi's front-right, a sudden disturbance in the water current appeared.

He turned to look in that direction.

Within the murky dark-golden water, a streak of silver lightning shot forward at an astonishing speed.

It was a Silver Arrowfish roughly twice his length.

It did not sense that this small frog was the source of danger. Instead, driven by predatory instinct, it regarded Levi as prey.

The Silver Arrowfish shifted direction, opening its mouth full of dense, sharp teeth, and charged at Levi like a silver torpedo. Its speed was terrifying, splitting the water apart and producing a low, hissing sound.

"Perfect timing!" Levi was delighted rather than alarmed.

Despite its fierce momentum, this Silver Arrowfish was still merely a normal beast.

But Levi, in the form of a Tide Arrow Frog, was different—he was a mid-tier First-Order magical creature.

The two were on completely different levels of existence.

Facing that gaping maw, Levi did not retreat. Instead, he advanced head-on.

[Water Binding]!

As Levi's Magic Power surged, vine-like structures formed in the water. Like water serpents, they wrapped around the Silver Arrowfish.

No matter how ferocious it was, it could not move. Under Levi's will, the water vines tightened further and further, until the Silver Arrowfish was eventually rendered unconscious.

"Harvest +1!"

One Silver Arrowfish was far from enough.

Levi then set his sights on other flashes of silver.

[Tidal Impact]!

[Rapid Water Arrows]!

He even used his long tongue.

Nothing could stop him.

After more than half an hour, Levi had harvested 22 Silver Arrowfish.

"That should be enough for now," Levi thought. At this point, there were hardly any Silver Arrowfish left nearby. They seemed to have sensed the danger and had hidden somewhere.

So Levi used [Water Binding] to transport the 22 largely intact Silver Arrowfish back through the passage and into the well.

Then he leapt out of the well and reverted to human form.

At this point, Levi could once again use all of his spells.

Using Detection on the Silver Arrowfish, Levi obtained more useful information:

[Using the spinal fluid of the Silver Arrowfish as the main ingredient, adding 3 grams of Geomantic Hematite Powder, 5 drops of Giant Lizard Heart Extract, and 10 milliliters of Thornflower Nectar, one can refine the Silver-Scale Surge Potion.]

[This is a potion that can significantly enhance the aptitude of knight practitioners and greatly increase their strength. Among the secret knight potions passed down by major knight families, it is considered to be of high grade.]

[The preparation process of this knight potion is as follows: Place the spinal fluid of the Silver Arrowfish into an obsidian crucible. Preheat it over a low, gentle flame—approximately the temperature of a geothermal hot spring. Boiling must be strictly avoided, or its activity will be lost. Then slowly add Thornflower Nectar, stirring clockwise seven times with a silver rod. At this point, the liquid should turn a dark purple. Next, sprinkle in the Geomantic Hematite Powder in three batches. Each addition must be accompanied by striking the bottom of the crucible with a heavy hammer, simulating the rhythm of a heartbeat to achieve proper fusion of the materials. Finally, drip in the Giant Lizard Heart Extract. When a fine layer of silver foam appears on the surface of the liquid, immediately extinguish the flame and bottle it.]

[Using the blood-and-flesh essence of the Silver Arrowfish as the main ingredient, adding a pinch of Moonlight Mushroom, 50 milliliters of Pure Water Essence, and a trace amount of Stardust, one can refine the Deepcurrent Echo Potion.]

[This potion can rapidly restore the user's Magic Power and has a slight effect on enhancing the user's Spiritual Power. If consumed in excess, it will cause temporary auditory hallucinations—the user will hear the flow of the underground river and the movement of Silver Arrowfish, slightly affecting judgment.]

[The preparation process of this potion is as follows: In a lightless environment, sprinkle the Moonlight Mushroom into the Pure Water Essence and let it sit for one hour. Once the water emits a faint blue glow, add the blood-and-flesh essence of the Silver Arrowfish, allowing it to combine with the glowing water and produce silver mist. At this point, add the Stardust. The solution will undergo an "echo" phenomenon—the surface of the liquid will ripple like the movement of Silver Arrowfish. No heating is required. Draw off the clear upper layer into a crystal vial and seal it—this is the potion.]

After detecting this information, Levi raised his brows slightly. Using the Silver Arrowfish as the base to produce knight potions and wizard potions was far more effective than consuming the Silver Arrowfish directly.

Moreover, the preparation methods for these two potions were not complicated—they were within Levi's current capabilities.

The only issue was that some of the additional materials required for the potions were not currently in Levi's possession.

However, that was not a major problem.

Among these ingredients, aside from Stardust—which was somewhat troublesome—everything else should be relatively easy to obtain.

Even for Stardust, with Detection and Gathering Technique at his disposal, Levi believed it wouldn't be too difficult to acquire.

But—

Levi's gaze fell on the still lively, struggling Silver Arrowfish in his hands—in that case, he could not kill them immediately.

Levi had no means of preservation, so these Silver Arrowfish could not be killed right away.

But that did not pose a problem for him.

If he couldn't kill them immediately, then he would simply raise them first. The well at hand was an excellent place for fish farming.

However, before that, Levi needed to seal the opening in the well that connected to the underground river.

That was not difficult.

Levi used Gathering Technique to collect a large number of stones from the forest, then used Wizard's Hand to place them into the well, quickly sealing the opening.

With a casual toss, the 22 Silver Arrowfish were thrown into the well.

The water vines binding them were released, and the newly freed Silver Arrowfish immediately began thrashing about inside the well. For a moment, silver flashes burst forth as water splashed in all directions.

Levi watched calmly. After a while, the Silver Arrowfish grew accustomed to the new environment and sank into the depths of the well.

Only then did he nod. He transformed into a small nightingale and returned to the Golden Fleece Inn, reverting to human form.

Yalina and Miss Nightingale Odelle were not there—they had gone to the market to stroll and shop.

In this era, entertainment options were scarce; it was always more or less the same.

Meanwhile, from the basket containing the Frog Prince, a furious yet weak voice rang out: "Let me out!"

"You liar!"

"I swear, I will not let you go! In the name of the Kingdom of Amtyr, in the name of Prince Romdis—"

Levi sneered.

During this period, aside from feeding the Frog Prince a few insects, Levi had not let him out at all.

This made the Frog Prince feel deeply deceived, and he had become extremely enraged.

But no one paid him any attention.

It was the same now.

Levi completely ignored him. As he prepared to head out to find Yalina, he also planned to look for the materials needed for the two potions at the market.

Seeing that no one outside responded, the Frog Prince gradually stopped cursing. Eventually, he fell silent.

After a while, faint sobbing sounds came from inside the basket.
