Fearsome Iron (Stubbing when SCS stubs.)

2-15

Victoria Cristal sat in Ambers main lab watching the countdown. She had run around the planet for three days just to learn that what she was doing wasn’t effecting the timer at all.she was playing with a color wheel she had found a few hours ago. It let her change the color of the suit she was wearing. Her fully enclosed helmet was on the table next to her. She rolled the colors to red and green and watched the helmet change, most of it turned red with green highlights, it made the polarized face shield stand out even more.

“Is there a half mask version of the helmet? Kind of like the one Amber wears just without the whole Owl motif?” Victoria asked the lab.

“Urban rescue model helmets have an open design that allows for firefighters to see there are no humans wearing the suits.” The labs VI echoed around the room.

“Bring me one of those instead of the one I am currently using.”

“Acknowledged.”

Victoria leaned back and looked down at the suit she was wearing, it was the same green and red she had turned the helmet into. She started flipping through the colors available, she didnt want to get mistaken for another OwlBot. Getting shot at by a rocket once was enough for her.

The timer ticked down in front of her. She had been watching the news and the world kept on spinning. The last ten minutes started to tick down and an OwlBot walked into the lab holding a helmet that had a gap for her mouth. It set it down then grabbed the other before walking off.

Victoria looked at the new helmet. The polarized mask cut off just below her nose and would show all of her jaw and lips. Anyone who looked at her would be able to see her smile. She looked back down at the suit and flipped through the colors again, the helmet changing in her peripheral view. She pulled up a third color tab before dismissing it again, the suit got too complicated. She settled on a lighter blue with the lines and seams of the suit turned into a white.

Victoria reached over and grabbed the helmet. She played with it in her hands and watched as the last ten seconds counted down on the timer of the lab. The timer flipped to all zeros then vanished. Victoria chewed on her thumb before letting out a sigh, “Show me all the world news.”

The counter disappeared off the screen and every monitor changed to a different news channel. She leaned forward, her eyes flipping between the screens looking for anything that would destroy the world. Captions appeared on the ones in languages she couldn't understand and she watched them all, rolled the helmet from one hand to the other.

Hours rolled past with her watching video feeds from different news channels. An OwlBot came and delivered her a meal that she ate slowly. Victoria was starting to get tired when one of the monitors caught her attention. Her hand snapped out, “Blow that one up!”

The monitor expanded, taking up most of the screens. It showed a bank surrounded by police cars. Victoria felt another surreal feeling shoot through her, something she was starting to notice happened in abundance. Being in a comic book world, watching a bank robbery, wearing a super suit, with the ability to fly ,having super strength and the durability that came with it. Cops were running around on the screen. Whoever was in the bank kicked over a hornets nest of them.

Victoria stopped rolling the helmet in her hands and changed to bouncing her leg. The police got situated behind their cars and a big box of a van rolled up. The people who stepped out of it were not dressed as police, they wore colorful costumes and suits. They turned and talked to the police, the situation looked fine until something came flying out of the bank. It was a desk, it missed one of the people wearing an orange bug looking suit and hit a police car. The desk shattered and the police car rolled onto its side.

Victoria stopped bouncing her leg and slowly stood up. Someone stepped out of the bank after the desk. They had on a full black suit with some kind of grey armor. The group of colorful people attacked the guy and he shrugged off what they threw at him. It wasn't a fight, everything they threw at him bounced off, tearing up his suit but not puncturing his skin.

Victoria sighed and looked at the helmet in her hands before lifting it and pulling it onto her head. She felt it grab her hair and pull it into a holder then the helmet sealed around her neck. She looked up through the polarized mask and saw the cops had scattered while the people in colorful costumes were on their back foot. “Where is this happening?”

“Bridge continent, Pivot City.” The VI reported.

Victoria floated up off the ground, “I need directions to that city and a way out of the lab.”

The polarized mask she was wearing flickered and an arrow appeared. She turned and followed it. It led her through one of the side doors of the lab and down a hallway. The room at the end of the hallway turned out to be a hydroponics area. There were OwlBots walking around tending to plants with openings in the ceiling. Sunlight shined down trough some kind of shield. Victoria floated up close to one of the openings, “If I leave, Will you be able to guide me back to this lab? All of my stuff is here.”

“Owl has this base set as your home address. Would you like to change it?”

Victoria sighed and shook her head,” No that's fine.”

She floated up through the barrier, it felt like water running over her skin as she did so. Looking down as she ascended into the sky she could see the rectangles cut out of the ground in a line, letting natural sunlight shine down on the plants. She turned back to the sky and looked at the angle the arrow was pointing. She knew she could hold her breath quite long but the arrow was pointing almost straight up. A flex of will and she shot into the direction of the arrow.

She didn't know how far away she was from the bank so she tuned her will and focused on speed. She felt it when she crossed the sound barrier, it felt like she was pushing against something then suddenly she was through it and her surroundings got quiet. It felt like someone took a hose and set it on mist when she hit the clouds.

A glance behind her showed her white flapping cape and the clouds parting in a circle where she punched through. Down below she could see the continents stretch out, the angle of the arrow changed and she followed it. She felt an odd sense of freedom as she flew through the skies. The planet below her didn't look anything like the one she grew up on. Flying as she was now took that and threw it to the side, it just didn't matter. Cities and mountains passed below her, she spun in the air and followed the arrow to one of the cities below her.

The city looked like the one she grew up in, one that held a few million people. It was laid out in a grid with most of the larger buildings closer to the center of the city. She twisted in the air and lowered so she wasn't flying over the city but through it. There were a few helicopters and she passed by one when she got close to the bank.

Victoria had slowed her speed when she got close to the city and lowered it even farther when she got close to the bank. She hovered over the street in front of the bank, the cops were walking around examining things and the fighting had left the area. There was a trail of destruction and she flew down the street following it. There were ambulances out and firetrucks sitting on the side. Firefighters running around and police helping them check on people.

There were cars the fight had smashed, some were turned into toys and thrown through buildings. Lightpoles were snapped at their bases and used as clubs. She could hear the fighting as she got closer. Victoria flew around a corner and ran face first into a flying car. She flinched bringing her arms up, the car hit her then fell straight below her as she absorbed the blow. To her if felt like getting slapped with a pillow. She dropped her arms and shot forward towards the guy who threw the car.

He was just as she saw through the monitor. He had a black suit with what looked like military gear and straps. The grey turned out to be steel he had bent into shape as a form of armor. His mask looked like he took a frying pan, cut holes for his eyes and pressed it against his face. He was going after the team of colorful people that showed up to stop him.

Victoria didn't recognize them but the fact they were trying to stop him told her of their character. Victoria cut her flight and landed between the groups with a bend of her knees. She gave the group of heroes a glance and her helmet tagged them and threw her their names. They looked a little beat up but otherwise fine. She turned and took one step towards the guy in the military gear, “I don't care what your plan was but it stops here.”

The guy tossed the car he was about to throw to the side. He looked Victoria up and down before chuckling, “More entertainment! You will try and stop Major Might! It will be an amusing ten minutes!”

Victoria took a step towards him and he snapped his arm out to punch her. Victoria had never been in a fight her whole life. She didn't know how to parry attacks or throw out elegant kicks. What she did know was where to punch her older brothers to stop them from screwing with her or stealing her toys. She leaned to the left of his strike, to her she had all the time in the world to dodge his hit. I slid across her face and over her right shoulder. She pulled her left arm back across her chest then slammed it forward just below the guy's ribs. He was taller than her so it wasn't much of a reach.

His side felt soft below her fist, like punching play doh, and he let out a whoosh of breath before collapsing to the side off of her fist then curling up into a ball on the ground. She dropped her fist and floated back from his form and he started letting out a high pitch whine. She felt her stomach sink, she knew to aim for the liver but she wasn't sure she should be hitting people that hard. She floated back farther when the group of heroes came over and rolled the guy onto his stomach. They pulled out a little silver tube and stuffed his thumbs into them. The hero in the pink suit that the desk missed turned to her, “Who are you supposed to be?”

Victoria knew from the moment she flew away with the box the VI sent her to pick up who she was supposed to be. The character's background was never spoken about in comics and it turned into an internet myth. People had put together facts the character had spoken about trying to learn more about her. Victoria met the ladies eyes through her face mask, “Liberty Prime.”

Now all she had to do was live up to it. She had a feeling she was going to be very busy soon.
