MARVEL/DC: DOCTOR IN THE MULTIVERSE

Chapter 13 – I’m a Good Doctor

The first thing that changed—

Was sound.

Not louder.

Clearer.

Structured.

Lynn could hear the idle hum of a taxi engine outside the clinic.

Two blocks away, a stray dog lapping at water.

Above him, the faint compression of springs as someone shifted in bed.

Each layer separated.

Identifiable.

Precise.

Then—

Smell.

Disinfectant.

Blood.

Oxidized metal from the surgical instruments.

The faint ozone trace from aging fluorescent tubes.

Moisture decay from a tile in the corner.

And—

Daredevil.

Gunpowder residue.

Concrete dust.

Sweat—multiple sources.

Stress hormones.

Layered.

Distinct.

Dozens of components.

Individually identifiable.

Then—

Touch.

His fingers rested lightly on the steel table.

Surface imperfections resolved instantly.

Micro-scratches.

Depth variation.

Distribution patterns.

Everything—

Readable.

But these were only inputs.

The real shift came from integration.

Before—

Super-intelligence processed limited data.

Now—

Input bandwidth expanded exponentially.

Heartbeat detection—

Converted instantly into rate, rhythm, stress state.

Residual biochemical scent—

Mapped to medication use, metabolic efficiency.

Pulse vibration—

Translated into vascular condition.

No instruments.

No delay.

He—

Was the instrument.

Lynn closed his eyes briefly.

Then opened them.

The room was unchanged.

His perception—

Was not.

Twenty minutes passed.

Quiet.

Then—

Movement.

Fabric shifting.

On the table.

Daredevil was waking.

Matthew Murdock sat up slowly.

His head tilted.

Listening.

"I can hear it…" he said, voice unsteady.

"The pipes next door… someone walking outside… rubber soles."

He inhaled.

Paused.

"Iodine. Disinfectant. You used povidone-iodine. And… coffee. Black."

His fingers moved across the table.

"Medical-grade steel. Surface wear—multiple points."

Then—

He turned toward Lynn.

Not seeing—

But perceiving.

More completely than sight.

"It's clearer," Matt said quietly.

Not relief.

Something deeper.

Recovery.

"How did you do it?"

"Surgical repair," Lynn replied, rinsing his hands.

Tone unchanged.

"Your sensory pathways were collapsing under overload. I stabilized and restored the core circuits."

Matt remained silent briefly.

Processing.

Comparing.

"Claire said this kind of damage couldn't be reversed."

"Claire Temple," Lynn said, without turning. "She's correct—under normal conditions."

He dried his hands.

Turned.

"But your nervous system isn't standard. It's adaptive. The failure wasn't structural—it was systemic overload."

A pause.

"I didn't rebuild it. I removed the interference. Your body handled the rest."

Matt listened.

Not just to the words—

But to cadence.

Heart rate.

Micro-delays.

Truth assessment.

"You're not a normal doctor," he said finally.

"I'm a competent one," Lynn replied. "And I need patients."

Direct.

Unembellished.

"My clinic just opened. If you recover fully, mention it. That's sufficient payment."

Matt nodded.

No resistance.

"What's the name?"

"Miracle Clinic. West 49th. Hell's Kitchen."

Matt stood.

Carefully.

Tested balance.

Slight instability.

Expected.

"Vestibular system is still recalibrating," Lynn said. "Avoid rooftops tonight."

A pause.

That statement carried implication.

Knowledge.

Pattern recognition.

Matt registered it—

But didn't pursue it.

"Thank you, Doctor."

No alias.

No deflection.

Just acknowledgment.

Then he left.

Lynn stood at the doorway.

Watched the red silhouette disappear into the early morning dark.

He understood what would follow.

Testing.

Verification.

Then—

Memory.

A name retained.

In that world—

Reputation didn't spread openly.

It circulated quietly.

Until it surfaced.

The system responded.

[Reputation +150 — High-value target healed]

[Total Reputation: 250]

Lynn closed the door.

Locked it.

Went upstairs.

Lay down on the narrow folding bed.

The building—

Was no longer silent.

Breathing.

Movement.

Water pipes.

Sleep patterns.

All detectable.

Normally—

Overwhelming.

Now—

Controlled.

Filtered.

Within this radius—

Nothing unexpected could approach unnoticed.

For the first time since arriving—

He relaxed.

Closed his eyes.

And slept.
