Chapter 250 : Confrontation Between Samui And Yugito
The two women, Yugito Nii, looked at Samui and frowned.
"Why are you saying the exact same thing as him? He said the same thing. Am I right?"
Samui glanced at Yugito. Though Yugito was technically leading this team, Samui was also a Jōnin and held a significant status in the Hidden Cloud Village.
Moreover, they were the same age. Samui never felt the need to show deference to Yugito.
Yugito thought for a moment and said,
"I plan to report this to Lord Raikage, but I want to remind you—he’s a ninja from Konoha. He’s powerful. You’re from the Hidden Cloud. Don’t get caught up thinking about him. There’s no future between you two, understand?"
Samui chuckled, "You’re overthinking it. I’ve only met him twice. You think I’d fall in love just like that?"
Yugito replied calmly,
"You say it’s only been twice, but both times you were clearly affected. From the moment he first saw you, sitting next to you, and your support for him... I wasn’t there for all of it, but I can tell—you feel differently about him."
"And he said, back in the Land of Water, that the reason he saved you was simply because he admired you. At the time, I didn’t believe it. But now... I think he really meant it."
"Since you came back from the Land of Water, you’ve been praising him constantly. Yes, he’s strong—even Matatabi said his power might rival Hashirama Senju—but you’ve never been like this with a man from another village before."
"At first, I thought you were just impressed by a strong ninja, and maybe sharing intel would benefit the village. But later, I realized you were just trying to prove how strong he is. That’s all you wanted to show."
"Tell me—am I wrong?"
Yugito fixed her sharp gaze on Samui.
Both women were cold and aloof by nature, yet undeniably beautiful. As they stared each other down, the tension in the air made it feel like they might explode into a fight at any moment.
Nearby, Karui and Omoi watched nervously.
Karui leaned toward Omoi and whispered,
"Omoi, do you think they’re about to fight? If they do, I don’t think Samui can win. Even if they were classmates, I get the feeling that if it comes to a fight, Lady Yugito won’t hold back."
Omoi frowned,
"If they actually injure each other, Lord Raikage’s gonna kill us when we get back! We’re standing right here and not stopping them. But... why would they fight over a guy from another village?"
"Could it be that Riku used genjutsu on them? That’s a possibility..."
Before he could finish, Karui slapped the back of his head.
"Quit guessing and think about what we’re supposed to do! If they really fight, we won’t be able to step in at all."
Samui was certainly at the level of an elite Jōnin, but Yugito was Kage-level—and a Jinchūriki. If the two of them clashed, neither Karui nor Omoi—both Chūnin—would be able to do anything but flee.
Samui looked at Yugito. At first, she was angry, but after thinking it over, she calmed down.
"You’re reading too much into it. I just want our village’s ninjas to be cautious around him. If they encounter him during missions, there’s no need for pointless fighting. Honestly, aside from Lord Raikage and Killer Bee, no one else in our village can match him."
Yugito responded coldly,
"Is that so? Then you’ve misjudged his power. Even Lord Raikage might not be his equal. But what I believe even more is that you do have feelings for him. I’m not saying that’s forbidden—I just want you to face reality."
Yugito knew Samui was loyal to the village. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be one of the Raikage’s most trusted shinobi.
In the Hidden Cloud Village, Samui’s rank wasn’t as high as Yugito’s, but among Jōnin, she was definitely top-tier—nearly on par with Darui.
Darui was the Raikage’s right-hand man, a master of Storm Release, and had Kage-level strength.
Though the Fourth Great Ninja War had cast doubt on the reputations of some figures like the Gold and Silver Brothers, who had killed both the Second Raikage and Second Hokage, Riku believed their performance in the war was lacking because they hadn’t been revived at full power.
Even if Kabuto had improved the Reanimation Jutsu, he likely focused on resurrecting the most important ninja at peak form.
That Darui eventually succeeded the Raikage proved just how much he was trusted. Samui, whose standing wasn’t far behind his, clearly had the Raikage’s confidence as well.
But Yugito couldn’t help noticing how differently Samui treated Riku.
When they were discussing cooperation with him earlier, Riku made a proposal. Samui hadn’t said a word—but with her personality, silence was agreement.
For a cold person like Samui to go along with the suggestion of a foreign ninja without resistance—it was hard not to be suspicious.
Samui herself believed she was only impressed by Riku’s strength and wanted to warn her comrades about underestimating him. Nothing more. No personal motives.
Besides, even though Riku was taller and looked more mature than her, he was only sixteen. She was twenty-eight.
She couldn’t understand why Yugito kept insisting she had feelings for him.
It was just absurd.
"Yugito, I’ll say it again—I have absolutely no personal interest in him. Please don’t accuse me unfairly."
Yugito didn’t respond. She simply stared at Samui, expression unreadable.
Samui realized that Yugito didn’t believe her at all.
She turned her head away angrily, not knowing what else to say.
This was the most unsettled she had ever felt.
No matter what dangers or challenges she’d faced before, she was always calm and composed. She never let anything show on her face.
But today—for some reason—she was furious.
