Chapter 838: Not as Simple (II)
"You mean that Bai Wenxuan will use me as a bridge to rise up in the Bai family again?" Bai Meiyue understood her meaning at once.
She already knew that there was something about Bai Wenxuan’s attitude; he was clearly the young master of the Bai family, but it had taken such a long time for him to return from abroad. If he were really as important as everyone made him out to be, then the Bai family would have protected him with everything that they had, but Bai Meiyue could not see their protectiveness at all; it was as if they had left Bai Wenxuan alone to fend for himself.
Even the bodyguards who followed him were limited. Even if Fox made countless explanations and excuses for Bai Wenxuan, Bai Meiyue knew that this was the attitude of someone who wanted to abandon Bai Wenxuan. That man was useless to them with his disability, so it was not a surprise that they had ignored him and his child for so long.
"I am not saying anything – don’t try to put any kind of words in my mouth." Even though that was what Xu Jinye meant, she would never admit it. Bai Meiyue knew her personality and did not force her. Instead, she looked pensive after hearing the things that Xu Jinye told her. No wonder Bai Wenxuan did not return to the capital and stayed here in the safe base. He was planning on how to regain the power that he had lost.
Xu Jinye then continued speaking, "Anyway, you don’t have to worry about it. Bai Wenxuan is still observing, and the chances of him making a move are quite low for the time being."
She then paused and added, "By the way, do you know what kind of relationship Yang Wei and Bai Wenxuan have?" As she spoke, she curled her red lips into a sly smile as if she were about to share some explosive gossip with Bai Meiyue, which made the latter a bit curious. She turned her head to one side and asked, "It seems that their relationship is not as simple as everyone made out to be."
"Of course not." Xu Jinye chuckled as she popped a melon seed into her mouth. "How can it be simple? That woman is the daughter of Old Madam Bai’s half-brother. I knew that their relationship was not at all simple when I heard that the young master of the Bai family, Bai Wenxuan, ended up with a woman because of something so simple. So when I asked around—surprise, surprise- they actually turned out to be such a matter."
"Her half-brother schemed against her in such a manner, and yet she allowed that man’s daughter to stay in the Bai family? Or did she do it deliberately?" Bai Meiyue asked, sounding a bit gossipy. She had no idea what was going on with the Bai family, but she had a feeling that the matter was not at all simple, and the Old Madam Bai was even less simple.
"Isn’t that it? I believe it’s the latter. Old Madam Bai does sound a bit problematic. I heard from Bai Wenxuan that the old woman was always taunted for not having a beautiful daughter or a daughter who resembled her. Some even questioned whether her daughter was her own. Tell me, if it were you, would you have let this matter slide?"
"Of course not." If it were just once or twice, she would have ignored such matters, thinking that it was all because someone wanted to make things difficult for her or was simply trying to see her make a joke out of herself. But if everyone kept telling her the same thing again and again, she would naturally try to investigate the matter on her own.

Bai Meiyue understood at once what Xu Jinye was telling her. It was not that the old woman from the Bai family did not suspect that the daughter beside her was not her own, but at the same time, she was worried that she would bring back a country bumpkin, so she did not investigate and did not let Old Master Bai investigate it either.
Even if the daughter was not a biological one, she had good social backing and had been educated for so long. If they were to bring another woman back home, it would cause disruption, loss of control and loss of face. Old Madam Bai did not want that to happen.

Xu Jinye was really skilled; she was able to decipher so many things in just one meeting with Bai Wenxuan. If Bai Wenxuan had met with her for a few more times, then Bai Meiyue was worried that the man might have lost his own underpants without knowing.
