Chapter 145: Someone from the Unit
"You bought all this?" Mrs. Fu felt a pang of regret.
When they were shopping earlier, she had felt like their home needed all sorts of things.
But now that she saw everything, she wished she could take it all back.
"Mom, don’t worry about it. Just hold the children tight while I load everything up."
"Alright." Mrs. Fu strapped one child to her back and held the other in her arms.
Fu Mingxue quickly hung their purchases on the bicycle’s handlebars.
"Can you manage all that? Will it be hard to ride? Maybe I should just walk back."
Mrs. Fu thought walking would be safer.
"Mom, you don’t need to walk. I can handle it. Let’s go back to the market and see—"
Mrs. Fu cut her off. "See what? Let’s just go. This is more than enough to last us a long time. If we need anything else, we can come back to town later. It’s not like this is our last chance."
’Besides, we just got here. If we show up with all these bags, what if we make people jealous?’
’Just the things Mr. Yang brought over yesterday made people green with envy. If we buy even more... who knows what they’ll be thinking.’
’It might even reflect poorly on my son-in-law.’
"Let’s go, let’s go. We need to get back right away."
Seeing how insistent her mother was, Fu Mingxue had no choice but to agree.
"Alright, then."
She straddled the bicycle, planting one foot on the ground for balance.
"Mom, you get on first and get settled." With one child strapped to her back and another in her arms, it wouldn’t be easy for her mother to hop onto the back seat.
Mrs. Fu was still a bit terrified.
She gingerly settled onto the rear rack.
Once Fu Mingxue saw her mother was settled, she pushed off with her foot, and the bicycle rolled forward.
The trip would take an hour on foot, but only about half an hour by bike.
However, mindful of her mother, the two children, and all their belongings, Fu Mingxue rode rather slowly.
It took them about forty minutes to get back to the military base.
"Huh? Who’s that? Why is someone at our front door?"
Mrs. Fu, with her sharp eyes, was the first to spot him.
Fu Mingxue saw him too. It was hard not to—besides the man, a car was parked there, which was a real eye-catcher.
She rode the bicycle up to their front door and stopped.
Planting one foot on the ground, she said, "Mom, you can get off now."
Mrs. Fu quickly dismounted.
The moment her feet touched the ground, she couldn’t help but sigh in relief.
’Finally home. That whole ride... I was terrified.’
’From now on, I’m never buying so much at once again.’
’No, wait. From now on, I’m never going out with my daughter again.’
"Comrade, who are you looking for?"
Mrs. Fu asked the young man.
The young man, however, looked toward Fu Mingxue. "Excuse me, are you Comrade Fu Mingxue?"
Fu Mingxue nodded. "Yes."
The young man breathed a sigh of relief. "Hello, Comrade Fu Mingxue. I’m Xiao Li from the engine factory. I’m here to pick up Mr. Fu and take him to the factory. Is he available to leave now?"
Fu Mingxue had guessed who he was the moment she saw him.
Now that he’d confirmed it, she nodded. "Yes, but you’ll have to wait a few minutes."
Xiao Li nodded immediately. "No problem."
He was very perceptive. Seeing all the things hanging from the bicycle, he stepped forward to help.
"Let me push that for you."
Since he took the bicycle from her, Fu Mingxue stepped aside. "Thank you!"
She then helped by lifting the back of the bike.
Once they were in the courtyard, she took one of the children from her mother’s arms.
Mrs. Fu then untied the child who had been on her back.
She took the child into her room.
When she came back out, she quickly took the other child from Fu Mingxue.
"Daughter, if you’re needed at work, you should hurry and go."
