Chapter 139: The Scammer Mother and Daughter
Mrs. Fu was already prepared. She took out a sturdy, flat strap.
She strapped one child to her back and held the other in her arms.
"I’ll take both kids. You just grab the luggage."
Fu Mingxue saw that her mom had already gotten the child situated on her back, so she picked up the two bundles.
When they got off the train, the people sitting across from them hadn’t disembarked yet, as they had even more luggage than the two of them.
Fu Mingxue paid them no mind.
’I’ve had more than enough of that mother-in-law and daughter-in-law these past few days.’
Mrs. Fu walked ahead, since Fu Mingxue also had to watch over the child on her mother’s back.
Thankfully, they got off the train without any mishaps.
"Daughter, where’s the person who’s supposed to pick us up?" Mrs. Fu asked, looking around everywhere.
As a country woman who hadn’t seen much of the world, she was naturally flustered in this strange place.
"Mom, let’s exit the station first. They should be waiting outside."
"Alright, let’s exit the station then."
They followed the crowd out of the station.
Before Fu Mingxue could even start looking, someone ran up to her. "Hello, are you Comrade Fu Mingxue?"
Fu Mingxue looked at the young soldier and nodded. "Yes, I’m Fu Mingxue."
"Comrade Fu Mingxue, I’m here to pick you up. My name is Yang Ming. I’m one of Qin Tuan’s comrades-in-arms."
Fu Mingxue confirmed his identity. "Thank you! Let’s go, then!"
"Sister-in-law, let me get those." Yang Ming had already switched to a more familiar term of address and took the two large bundles from Fu Mingxue’s hands.
Fu Mingxue didn’t argue with him. Instead, she took one of the children from her mother’s arms.
"Mom, let’s keep up."
"Ah, okay."
Mrs. Fu hurried to follow.
The mother and daughter arrived at the side of the vehicle.
Mrs. Fu first unstrapped the child from her back before getting into the car.
Once Yang Ming saw they were all settled, he drove away from the train station.
"Sister-in-law, you can get some sleep. The base is about two and a half hours from the train station, so it’s still a bit of a drive."
"It’s alright. Thank you for your trouble."
"Sister-in-law, it’s my duty. No trouble at all!"
For the rest of the journey, Yang Ming didn’t speak again.
Fu Mingxue didn’t say anything more either.
After all, the road was a bit bumpy, and she didn’t want to distract him while he was driving.
──
The wicked mother-in-law and her companion got off the train a bit later. By the time they exited the station, they happened to see Fu Mingxue and her mother getting into a car, and the driver was clearly a soldier.
She immediately grew anxious. "How did they get a car too? Wasn’t that car supposed to pick us up? Why did it just drive away?"
"Did he pick up the wrong people?"
Unfortunately, just as she was about to shout, she saw the car had already driven off.
This left her both fuming and furious. "What’s going on? Doesn’t that soldier know he picked up the wrong people? He’s gone, so what are we supposed to do?"
The young daughter-in-law tugged on her arm. "Mom, that car definitely wasn’t for us—"
The wicked mother-in-law glared. "Shut up! Are you blind? That was a man from the military. My son must have sent him to pick us up."
"Mom, it really wasn’t. Look, the baby’s father is here—"
Just then, a surprised and happy voice called out, "Mom! Honey! I’m here to pick you up!"
"Son!" When the wicked mother-in-law saw it was really her son, she was overjoyed.
The young daughter-in-law was also very happy to see her husband.
Hao Rong glanced happily at his wife, then said quickly, "Let’s go. We’re heading back to the base."
The wicked mother-in-law, Mrs. Hao, stopped her son.
"Wait, son. If you came to pick us up, then what was with that other soldier just now? He picked up another mother and daughter, a pair of tricksters—"
