Chapter 129: Induction
Fu Mingxue completed the paperwork. She was officially employed by the Beijing Research Institute, but she had to go to S Province for a temporary assignment.
Her current salary was set at a researcher’s rate—and not just an ordinary one.
The research institute offered her one hundred and thirty a month.
This didn’t include other allowances.
After the paperwork was done, Old Ji had someone drive her home.
The driver was the same person who had picked her up the other day. "Excuse me," Fu Mingxue said, "could you please wait a moment? I need to swing by my dorm."
"Okay."
Fu Mingxue quickly went to where she was staying and packed up her things.
There wasn’t much to pack, really. She had only brought a few changes of clothes.
Carrying her bundle, she went downstairs.
After getting in the car, she gave the key to the driver. "Excuse me, could you please give this key to Mr. Ji when you get back?"
"Okay."
The ride was smooth, and they arrived home in no time.
After thanking him, Fu Mingxue was about to get out of the car when the driver spoke up. "Ms. Fu, I’ll come pick you up at eight in the morning the day after tomorrow. Will that be all right?"
Fu Mingxue nodded. "That’s fine."
She then opened the car door and got out.
The car quickly drove away.
Fu Mingxue knocked on the door. "Mom, I’m home! Open up."
Mrs. Fu had just been worrying to herself—after all, her daughter had said she’d be gone for three days, and the time was up!
Hearing her daughter’s call from outside, she immediately went to open the door.
"Oh, you’re back! Is your work over there all done?"
"Mom, let’s go inside and talk."
Hearing this, Mrs. Fu quickly ushered her inside.
She closed the door and they went back into the courtyard.
Then, she asked eagerly, "How did the job go? Were your superiors pleased?"
Fu Mingxue wanted to make her mother happy, so she said right away, "They were very pleased. I’ve been hired by the research institute. For now, my salary is one hundred and thirty a month."
Mrs. Fu was shocked. "What? How much?"
"One hundred and thirty," Fu Mingxue repeated, making a hand gesture.
’That’s so much.’
Mrs. Fu was speechless.
"Are you telling the truth? You’re not pulling my leg, are you?"
Fu Mingxue was at a loss for words. "Mom, why would I lie to you? It’s the real amount. Besides, the benefits at the institute are great. They give out a lot of things. Plus, my salary is sure to go up again soon. From now on, you can just relax and enjoy a good life with me!"
After confirming it again and again, Mrs. Fu was both shocked and thrilled. "Oh, my heavens! One hundred and thirty... I’d have to work three or four months at the factory to earn that much!"
’It doesn’t even matter if it goes up later or not,’ she thought. ’This salary alone—it’s scarily high.’
"Here, pinch me."
Fu Mingxue was dumbfounded.
"Mom, stop it. This is real. There’s something else, too. I have tomorrow off, but I have to leave the day after."
Just then, a particular word in her daughter’s sentence caught Mrs. Fu’s attention.
"Leave? Where are you leaving to? Aren’t you working in Beijing City? Or does this mean you won’t be living at home for your job anymore?"
’Then again, with my daughter’s salary so high, it would be fine even if she had to live at her work unit all the time.’
’If the rest of the Fu family found out my daughter had such a high salary—wouldn’t they be hopping on the first train to Beijing overnight?’
Fu Mingxue looked at her mom.
"Mom, even though I’ve joined the research institute, my first assignment is in S Province. As it happens, your son-in-law’s military base is there too. I heard it’s very close to where I’ll be working. Mom, why don’t you and the two kids come with me? That way, the whole family can live together."
"Besides, my work unit will arrange housing for me. And even if they don’t, we can live on Qin Wenhao’s base. I’m allowed to live in the family quarters as a military spouse."
