Chapter 125: Whose Family Member Are You?
Fu Mingxue arrived at the research institute.
Old Ji led her to a private office.
"Comrade Fu Mingxue, you can do your drawing in here. Also, this is a meal card. Just head to the cafeteria for your meals. When the time comes, someone will take you there and show you to your dormitory as well."
"Alright." Fu Mingxue nodded, reaching out to take the specially issued research institute meal card.
"Well, I’ll let you get to it. If you need anything, just come find me next door."
"Alright."
After Old Ji left, Fu Mingxue scanned the office.
There was a large workbench, perfectly suited for her to draw blueprints on.
Paper had already been laid out on it.
The drafting tools provided were quite comprehensive.
Seeing that everything she needed was here, Fu Mingxue decided not to waste any time—
The door was closed, and no one came to disturb her.
Besides, apart from a few of the institute’s elders who knew about the matter, the other researchers had no idea Fu Mingxue even existed.
At noon, there was a knock on the studio’s door.
Hearing the sound, Fu Mingxue looked up from her blueprints.
She rubbed her sore neck, then glanced at the time, surprised to see it was already five o’clock.
’Has the time passed this quickly?’
She walked over and opened the door.
Standing at the door was a young man.
"Hello, Comrade Fu. Elder Ji sent me to take you to dinner and show you to your dormitory."
Fu Mingxue nodded. "Alright! Wait for me one moment."
She brought out the bundle she had carried with her.
"This is the luggage I brought earlier. Does it need to be inspected?"
Hearing this, the young man quickly replied, "No need!"
"Okay, then. How about this: let’s go to my living quarters first, and then the cafeteria. You can just tell me where the cafeteria is, and I’ll go by myself later."
"That works."
The two of them walked out of the research building; the cafeteria was in another direction. The dormitory, as it turned out, wasn’t too far from the cafeteria.
"Comrade Fu, the cafeteria is over there. You just need to show your meal card to the staff. For now, I’ll take you to where you’ll be staying."
"Alright."
Fu Mingxue followed him to the dormitory building.
It was a fairly new, three-story dormitory block.
He led her to a room on the second floor.
The young man handed the key to Fu Mingxue. "Comrade Fu, this is it. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now."
Fu Mingxue took the key. "Okay, thank you!"
"You’re welcome."
With that, the young man left.
Just as Fu Mingxue was about to open her door, someone came out of the room next door and looked at her curiously.
"Are you the new comrade who’s moving in?"
Fu Mingxue shook her head. "I’m just staying for a few days."
She said no more and simply opened her door and went inside.
The woman from next door was incredibly curious. ’Whose family member is this girl? Who at the institute got married and brought home a bride?’
Fu Mingxue looked around and found it was a two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment.
It just didn’t have a bathroom; that was probably outside.
The bed wasn’t made, but there was a new quilt on it, which looked like it had been brought over recently.
’This is good, too. I forgot to bring bedding when I came.’
The place was very simple; there wasn’t much to see.
After putting down her bundle, she locked the door and went to the cafeteria to eat—
When she arrived at the cafeteria, there weren’t many people eating inside.
Fu Mingxue approached the serving window and handed over her meal card. "Hello, could I please have a serving of rice, a portion of potatoes, and some spicy cabbage?"
The woman serving the food asked curiously, "Young lady, I haven’t seen you before. Are you new family? Whose?"
Fu Mingxue replied, "Ma’am, I’m not anyone’s family member; I’m here by myself. The name is Fu Mingxue."
