Red pulse

Chapter 47: The Guardian’s Answer

The chamber remained deathly still.

The Pulse Core burned beneath Rasheed’s jacket.

The Resonator waited.

The ancient voice echoed once more.

“Authorization required…”

”…Guardian of the Pulse.”

Every eye remained fixed on Rasheed.

“I don’t understand.”

His voice barely rose above a whisper.

“I’m not anyone’s guardian.”

The Resonator responded instantly.

“Designation confirmed.”

“Guardian recognized.”

Mr. Vale slowly closed his eyes.

“So it finally chose.”

Rasheed turned sharply.

“You knew?”

“I suspected.”

“The Pulse Core never belonged to David.”

“It only obeyed him.”

Silence.

“It was waiting.”

Vale looked directly at Rasheed.

“For you.”

The words hit harder than any punch.

His entire life…

He had believed he inherited his father’s legacy.

Now…

It seemed the legacy had been waiting before he was even born.

The countdown continued.

03:41:16

Elias stepped forward.

“Rasheed.”

“Don’t answer.”

The Resonator immediately reacted.

Ancient symbols flashed violently.

“Outside interference detected.”

The machine wasn’t asking everyone.

It was asking only him.

Omar folded his arms.

“So nobody can help?”

Vale answered.

“No.”

“The Guardian must choose alone.”

“That’s insane!”

Rasheed shouted.

“I’m seventeen!”

Elias smiled sadly.

“So was David…”

“…when he decided to become a scientist.”

“No.”

Vale corrected.

“David was thirty-two.”

Elias sighed.

“I meant…”

“…he was seventeen when he decided what kind of man he wanted to become.”

The words lingered.

Suddenly…

The Pulse Core projected something into the air.

Not light.

Memory.

The chamber disappeared.

Rasheed found himself standing inside Project Chrona.

Twenty years earlier.

Scientists hurried through the laboratory.

Warning sirens blared.

The Chrona Gate roared.

Then…

He saw his father.

Not as a legend.

Not as a hero.

Just…

A man.

Scared.

Breathing heavily.

Looking at a photograph.

It was a family picture.

A much younger Amina.

A newborn Rasheed wrapped in a blue blanket.

David smiled.

Then quietly whispered…

“I’ll come back.”

The vision froze.

Then shattered.

Rasheed staggered backward.

“He promised…”

Elias lowered his head.

“He intended to keep that promise.”

The countdown continued.

03:36:02

Miles away…

Inside the Chronal Zone…

David suddenly stopped walking.

His wristwatch began ticking rapidly.

He looked toward the endless crimson horizon.

A bridge.

It was opening.

For the first time in twenty years…

Hope reached his eyes.

Then…

The smile disappeared.

Because another presence had sensed it too.

The crimson storm grew silent.

Too silent.

David whispered…

“…No.”

A voice drifted through the void.

“You felt it.”

David slowly turned.

Nothing stood behind him.

Only endless crimson mist.

The voice laughed softly.

“You always hoped your son would find you.”

David clenched his fists.

“I hoped…”

“…he’d know when not to.”

Back beneath the station…

The Resonator spoke again.

“Guardian.”

“State your intention.”

Rasheed looked at the glowing machine.

Then at Elias.

Then Omar.

Then Mr. Vale.

Every answer carried a cost.

Every choice carried regret.

He took one slow step forward.

“I…”

The chapter ends before he can finish.
