Larimar: Did you see the conclusion to the Sudoxe's revenge for Saint? Captain Sharp dealt with the Shareholder in a manner most brutal.

FormulatedFoundry: Oh I saw, alright! I'd hate to get on her bad side! I hope that the Pelekys collabs with them again in the future, because this was a whole lot of fun!

Kraia: and now the pelekys just needs to find grim's storlayacas! my money's still on it being in thalatte space

also! did you see the joke she cracked about going blonde!? i think this crew is starting to warm up to one another!!!

Dauph34: I really do hope that is the case I am enjoying everyone so far but I do have to admit that the antagonistic undertone to some of their actions with one another is not something I particularly enjoy so if they are going to be growing closer as a group that would be something that I would be full on board for

Kraia: not to sound like a broken record, but i do think that the relationship that is brewing between bathory and the hand will be the key to that unity!

linger857: kukuku i am surprised you haven't made a comment about the hands comment to bathory yet

FormulatedFoundry: That's because we were screaming about it over on the Midas Touch board for all of yesterday! We're trying to stay on topic over here!

xengret: Triple upload. Nice.

Dauph34: What a wonderful thing to see I will watch these immediately because I have a feeling that we are going to want to discuss what will be happening in them all too soon so off I go

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: wha hap

j4x: just binged all of the Pelekys' stuff so this was cool to get this drop live! so Kaizoku was making a play for her family's throne, but she got caught up in a coup before she could do that, escaping in Zaanlaa and meeting up with the Hand (interested to see how the Hand crossed her path!). only now some other rival family has taken out whoever coup'd Kaizoku's family, and dissolved/absorbed it, so if she did try to take the throne back, it would basically prove that the family who did it isn't as lame as they actually are in the grand scheme of things, which would be an insult to Kaizoku herself (this is honestly a pretty common trope in deupazing media, so it's cool to see it in play here!), which left her out of whack in terms of the goal she'd been aiming for her entire life (taking over her family's seat of power). but the Hand reminded her that with the Storlayacas, she's got more power than she ever would have had controlling her family's holdings, and that betrayal was the only thing she could have guaranteed if she'd gotten on the throne. she also reminded her that the stuff they're doing with the Storlayacas is way more important (which means that the Hand knows more about what's going on too!).

with Grim, she was demoted because her superiors in the Apiarian navy listened to the lies that others were telling about Grim instead of going with her proven military record, so she quit rather than stick to the desk job that they tried to force on her. only when the ones who got her booted tried to take on the commands that should have gone to Grim, they got themselves killed, because they weren't anywhere near the general that she was! Bathory asked if she would consider going back to her old posting, now that the job has opened back up again, but Grim told her that she wouldn't even if they begged (which I love for her!) and that what she's doing here and now is way more important, and she's not leaving until she gets her own Storlayacas.

and then the most interesting one had to do with the Program and Augury! so Augury went to the Program's mainframe to basically confront it about digging into Augury's past, and the Program implied that it knew the truth about what Augury actually is. apparently the Program had been created to dig into Hyttan stuff, and the person who created it sounds like they used Hyttan tech to do so, which means that the Program is kind of Hyttan in a way? hah, if genetics were a thing for artificial intelligences, that is. but then the Program also implied that it shares a common ancestor with Augury, which really means only one thing… that Augury is Hyttan herself!!!! if that's the route they're going for, it could lead to all kinds of interesting things!!!

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: thank

FormulatedFoundry: Larimar, your whole thing about this being a PSYOP to get controversial Hyttan research out there into the galaxy is becoming less of a conspiracy theory with ever drop!

Larimar: I am as shocked as you are, I'm sure. These shorts have brought to light a number of new questions that I am excited to ponder.

j4x: they really have! the whole "Common Ancestor" title is pretty much confirmation - Augury is Hyttan in some way. what do the rest of you think? an actual Hyttan, maybe kept in stasis or something, or a clone, perhaps?

Larimar: I'm leaning towards an artificial construct myself. Hyttan tech is known for being organic-like in how it behaves, so who is to say that Augury isn't actually some kind of Hyttan android? Perhaps she is unique in her abilities because she was built to be so? Whatever nebulous threat that is being hinted at here, it seems to be tying into whatever it was that wiped the Hyttan out - which is a bold choice for a narrative, but one I am enjoying, even if it is fictional. My inclination is that, whatever this ancient threat was, the Hyttan left behind safety measures in order to combat the threat should it rise again. I believe Augury is one such thing, an android created in order to usher forward those who would pilot the Storlayacas, as clearly the Storlayacas are the only things that can stand up to this ancient threat.

j4x: but then that also leaves open the question of, if the Storlayacas is the thing that can stop the threat, then why didn't the Hyttan use it to save themselves?

FormulatedFoundry: Maybe they couldn't? Maybe something happened to prevent them from facing their foe? Or it got to them before they were able to take it out?

That's what I'm hoping, at least, because the alternative to that is that the Storlayacas wasn't enough, and even with it, they were still wiped out by their enemy. I really hope that isn't the case, because I am not a fan when Kith crews go for downer endings in their stories like that!

Kraia: they've been a little grim (hah!) but I don't think this crew is going to be a downer one. i can't see them pulling a starah!

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: who

Larimar: The Starah was a Kith ship that had a very popular following - their broadcasts and videos were some of the most highly rated in all of the Kith's history - and they were in operation for several centuries. They had incredible characters, their plots were always fascinating, and they were frequent collaborators with some of the most popular Kith crews of their day. There had been rumours about them deciding to retire, and most assumed that they would pull a standard ending where they imply that their adventures will continue, just no longer be filmed. Instead, they killed off their characters and destroyed their ship in such a way that it ended up completely undermining everything else that they had accomplished over their careers, to the point where those who had been staunch supporters became their biggest detractors.

They went from being one of the most beloved Kith crews to ever fly the colors, to one of the most hated, all in the span of a single video drop. Even now, their finale is all they talk about, instead of the literal years of other content they had produced. An object lesson in what not to do, for all the Kith that would follow them.

j4x: yeah to the point where other Kith who talk of retirement have to assure their audiences that they aren't going to pull a Starah.

it's one thing if they end up actually getting killed in their line of work (with all the crime and danger that Kith crews get up to, it's an unfortunate possibility that they all face!), but to live long enough to retire and then decide to go out like that? it left a mark on the Kith that can still be felt to this day!

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: oh

xengret: Rough stuff. Hope Pelekys doesn't pull that.

Kraia: i agree. i'm really enjoying them, and i would hate for the experience to be tainted! but enough about that depressing stuff, let's get this thing back on topic!

i'm interested to know how grim and bathory ended up crossing paths. how did an ex-military officer end up partnered with some kind of… diplomat???

FormulatedFoundry: I honestly think the "chancellor" title that Bathory is going with is more for show than anything. I think she's working for herself, and not connected to any kind of government.

She had a piece of Yarula… THAT'S what I'm more interested in learning about! How did it come to her? Was it a relic that was passed down through her family or something? Or a curio that she just happened to pick up from somewhere because it called out to her in some way? Did she just wake up one day and suddenly there it was on her side table with no explanation???

Larimar: Everything about the Storlayacas is so intriguing to me. There is something about them that has called out to these particular people, something that has psionic potential. An intelligence, either artificial or organic, though I'm not sure which I would find more compelling.

They seem to have been created to fight some disastrous threat, one that potentially wiped out the Hyttan, and a threat that seems intent on returning, whatever it actually ends up being. And for some reason, it has chosen this group of people to be its pilots.

And its been made very clear that these pilots were indeed chosen. That they will obey no other commands other than those from their designated pilots, even when others have sat at their controls. This is very much not how the Odazaen operate.

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: oadzan tht diffrent???

j4x: yeah, I mean just look at them!

[ID: a screenshot of the Storlayacas Yarula standing within a Thalatte-style cargo hold]

[ID: a picture of an Odazaen standing within a Thalatte-style cargo hold]

aside from the slight difference in coloring (which is wild that the Storlayacas all seem to be changing color to match their pilots!), the Storlayacas are a lot bigger. you can see how an Odazaen doesn't come up as far on the wall when you look at the panels and all that it's leaning up against in those pictures. plus, the shape of them is different too. the Odazaen all look like they were mass produced, and with how they're easy enough for anyone to get into, there's been a ton of speculation over the years that they were designed to be rapid deployment units that anyone, regardless of training, could hop into. no doubt to combat threats on like colonies and stuff - easy to have a militia that way. but the Storlayacas won't listen to anyone but their pilot, and it sounds like plenty of people have tried to be their pilots!

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: ah

Larimar: To me, that denotes an intelligence of some sort. But that begs the question - what is it about this crew that has drawn the Storlayacas to them?

Beyond the obvious fact that they are all stunning examples of the females of their species, I know, Kraia.

Kraia: yes yes yes so glad that is my legacy here!!!

but aside from that obvious fact, i wonder about what that joining element is between the five of them? because as people, they're all very different!

kaizoku and bathory are both confident in a loud way. when they enter a room, all eyes are on them, and they know how to command a space and those who fill it.

grim and the hand are more reserved, but obviously competent professionals. it's basically a guarantee that they'll be able to accomplish whatever task that's set before them.

augury's more like the program, in that they're both not what they seem to be, putting on a sort of unstable front to the others, while they're a lot more in control and sinister around one another.

before they joined up, each side was composed of a charismatic leader, their loyal follower, and a mysterious agent. but despite this initial separation, and their antagonistic attitudes towards each other sometimes, they've all been working together pretty seamlessly.

kaizoku, more often than not, is the one calling on augury for visions and information about their targets. grim is the one piloting kaizoku's ship, and no one had made any snide comments about that. then there's the whole thing going on with bathory and the hand, which started as them trying to get information out of one another, but that's definitely becoming more of a sincere interest on both their parts.

and the program? i'm not sure what to make of the program. it clearly has a mission of its own, one that involves getting all the storlayacas together, but for what reason? well, i mean the vague threat it was hinting at, but we've got no idea what that even is!

j4x: and I'm really curious what that is going to end up being! is it the thing that removed the Hyttan from the face of the galaxy? with all their advances, they were still wiped out, so how are we supposed to survive that?

the Storlayacas are obviously how, and I think they were a last ditch effort. otherwise they would have survived!

maybe a reason as to why the Hyttan were unable to use them was because the Storlayacas, for whatever reason, had already chosen who would pilot them, and those pilots were from races that hadn't even evolved yet, so there was nothing the Hyttan could do to sway the Storlayacas' minds!

FormulatedFoundry: THAT could be an interesting thought, actually! Augury's able to see prophetic stuff, so maybe the idea that she's artificial holds merit? Like maybe she's a similar type of entity that the Storlayacas are? Or their child or something?

Maybe the Storlayacas aren't created by the Hyttan at all? Maybe they predate them, and all Hyttan tech is based on what they were able to figure out about the Storlayacas? Maybe that's why the Odazaen are smaller - they're like the mechs we have today, backwards engineered off of what we were able to figure out from some older tech!

Larimar: A fascinating theory indeed. That would certainly account for the size discrepancy between the two styles of Hyttan mechs we've seen so far.

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: hw no names?

Larimar: We know the names of the Odazaen because, when a person enters one of these mechs, when the neural controls fall into place, a single word will ring through their mind every time - Odazaen. I assume this is the same for the Storlayacas, as I'm willing to bet that they, like other Hyttan technology, has a neural interface.

j4x: it's sort of like how a lot of devices will have a start up jingle, usually some kind of branding thing that will play when you power your stuff on

xXx_GR4V3_xXx: ah thank

FormulatedFoundry: I feel like there's gotta be some other commonality that ties everyone together, something we aren't seeing. There was the implication that they all wanted revenge for one reason or another, but now it kind of sounds like they aren't going to be getting that, with what went on in these newest drops. But then there's more parallels!

Bathory and the Hand both (seemingly) lost everyone, but they got their revenges off screen - the Hand dug up how Bathory had killed all the people who had wronged her, and it's pretty heavily implied that the reason the Hand is so loyal to Kaizoku is because the latter helped her with her own revenge.

Then we've got Kaizoku and Grim in these shorts who just had their own revenge targets taken from them. But while Grim seemed fine with that happening, it left Kaizoku rudderless… at least until the Hand reminded her that there are other things, bigger and more important things, in store for her.

The Program killed its creator, because they tried to use it for something other than finding Storlayacas, so that's another revenge that's come to pass. No idea who or what Augury wants revenge against, but from the sounds if it, she probably already got it? It was pretty heavily implied in her introduction with Grim and Bathory that they dealt with whatever had taken her captive.

Larimar: Maybe it's not the revenge itself, but the drive to seek it out that is the connecting element that binds them to the Storlayacas?

In one of Augury's visions, she made it clear that the Storlayacas have a vendetta against the Leviathan. Maybe the Storlayacas need people who are willing to go to any lengths to pursue their monstrous goals, because there's nothing more monstrous than the Leviathan themselves?

FormulatedFoundry: Well maybe there is one thing worse than the Leviathan… the thing that the Storlayacas were built to destroy.
