“...I should be dead,” she said, clamping her forehead.She remembered: her harpy mount turning to solid stone below her, eyes frozen wide and baleful. The harpy had fallen, and her rider with it, plummeting head-first in the thick of a thunderstorm, through rain and fire and rubble. Jemi should have been shredded to pieces by falling stone. She should have burned to a crisp in the lava, or succumbed to fever thereafter.
Ennanis looked at her. And tilted her head. “Well, you aren’t.”
