Chapter 276 Complications
Once Avery had found the assailant's personal shield generator, he pulled it off and handed it over to Dr. Raiti.
In a situation like this, going without one was an easy way to get killed.
No matter how fast someone could move or the impressiveness of their reflexes, it was impossible to avoid a wide spray of laser fire. Even people like Olivia who had trained to deflect blasts with hard light weaponry could only handle a few people shooting at them at most.
"Damn! It's got biometric security. We can't use it." Avery groaned as he tried to fire the laser rifle the man that had attacked them had been using.
Unfortunately, this was a pretty common feature that most modern weapons possessed.
No one wanted their own guns taken and used against them, so measures had been taken to make sure only authorized users could activate them.
For a brief moment, Avery considered cutting the guy's hand off but passed up on this idea quickly.
It would be incredibly cumbersome to aim and fire a weapon while using a severed hand to pull the trigger. Plus, there was a chance it would not even work depending on the sophistication of the biometric lock. Some were designed to sense pulses, and if there was not one, the gun would prevent any use.
"The shield generator works at least, right?" Avery asked once he had finished searching through their assailant's equipment.
"Yeah, it's functioning properly. I doubt there are many that come with the same security functions as a laser rifle." Kasandra responded.
Considering that it was a defensive tool, typically attached to the person body securely, and needed to be no larger than a certain size to avoid getting in the way of movement, personal shield generators did not usually have any protections to prevent them from being used by other people.
"Okay, we should move from here and figure out how we want to deal with this. I just checked my terminal, and our signal to the outside has been cut off. We're dealing with a pretty organized group here if they planned for this. And one that's dangerous and dedicated if they're willing to try a stunt like this in the capital system." Avery said, a hint of tension in his expression.
