Chapter 90: I Came to Choose My Last Elective, but Lily Was Waiting There Instead.
Thankfully, unlike what I had expected, nothing much happened, at least not for now. And surprisingly, Hope was quick with her hands.
She chopped all the ingredients with precision.
I also tried my best but with this being my first attempt at making something, I failed spectacularly. Not that I was demotivated. I mean, learning is a thing, right?
The elective ended soon as Hope and I prepared our first dish together or at least something that looked like one.
The professor gave us a weird and pitiful look before nodding reluctantly with a forced smile.
"Well, uh... you did quite well for the first class."
I knew exactly what that look meant but I didn’t say anything. Once the class ended, I walked out without much thought.
Somehow... This damned cooking felt even more difficult than Ruan’s hellish training.

Afterwards, I spent some time doing absolutely nothing and staring at the sky, reconsidering my life choices as always.
There was still some time before my last elective, so I had nothing to do.
I wondered if Lily had chosen the same elective as in my last life or if my interference had changed anything. Despite being raised by that damned organisation, Lily was still a curious and innocent girl at heart.
She didn’t show it much outwardly but the academy was going to be the best time of her life... at least until the end of the first semester, when those Resistance bastards were fated to attack.
Naturally, I had no intention of letting any of those events play out. But to do that, I first had to find where that bastard was keeping Lily’s family and save them.
I had six months to grow my strength to at least the peak of the Awakened Rank or the beginning of the Enlightened Rank to pull that off.
And the only clue I had to their location was that they were somewhere within the Forest of Delusion on the continent of Sylvara.
Then there was also my duel with Ivan tomorrow, the upcoming dungeon exploration arranged by Maximus, and Seles’s condition for letting me copy her True Name.
Ahh, so... many things to do.
Lost in my thoughts, time passed before it was finally time for my last elective. I was going to finalise which electives I was going to choose.
Cooking and Potion Brewing were definite picks. As for the third, it completely depended on how I felt about the upcoming elective.
Only two were necessary but I didn’t mind choosing three.
I walked towards the place where it was being held.
The location was on the complete opposite side of where the cooking class had been but just as I was about to enter, an annoyingly familiar voice called out to me from behind.
"Oh, Zenith, fancy seeing you here?"
I turned around with a pleasant smile, only to see Seles walking towards me, her violet eyes filled with amusement.
Her orange hair was tied into a bun and she wore spectacles, looking every bit the perfectly diligent student as she held a few books in her hands.
"I didn’t take you for the kind to be interested in learning Rune Inscription."
"Well, it’s an interesting subject with many applications, so why wouldn’t I be?"
I replied politely.
"That’s true."
Seles replied.
But I wasn’t particularly surprised to see her here because I knew she had chosen this elective in my previous life as well.
Seles wasn’t particularly strong or talented like the others but to make up for that, she was insanely smart and used that brain to master countless useful skills.
Rune Inscriptions, Monster Anatomy, Herbology of Sentient Plants, Magical Ecology, Dungeon Navigation, and Strategic Theory.
She was the only first-year student who had chosen six whole electives from the first semester itself. Each of them was a one-hour class and combined with the five hours of mandatory classes, she literally studied more than anyone else.
Though not all the classes were on the same day since some of the electives were spread across different days of the week to help students manage their schedules.
Still, she spent at least seven to eight hours just on classes every day and that was monstrous for a noble.
People praised her for taking so many electives and they often wondered why she worked this hard despite being a princess.
Hell, even I could never understand why she did it.
I even remembered asking her about it and her reaction was always the same.
A smile whose meaning I never understood.
"Have you chosen your other electives already?"
She asked as we entered the classroom together.
"Yeah, more or less. What about you?"
She nodded, puffing out her chest as she tried to act cutesy.
"I chose all six of them."
"...Six?"
I acted surprised as she nodded again.
"Yeah."
"Why so many? Most of the first-years are slacking around at this time, you know. So why are you working so hard right from the start?"
I probed, wanting to see if she would finally give me an answer. Instead, she looked lost in her thoughts for a moment before she gave the same mysterious smile she had in my previous life.
Just then, as if distracted, her legs got tangled with each other, throwing her off balance.
"Ohhh, watch out."
She yelped as the books in her hands fell to the ground and she stumbled straight towards me.
I instinctively reached out to catch her before she could fall but before I could, someone grabbed her hand and pulled her back upright.
I looked at the person who had just saved Seles from falling on top of me, and my eyes widened.
Standing there with an indifferent, almost uninterested expression was the woman I least expected to see in this class.
Her blonde hair cascaded over her shoulders in soft curls, while her crimson eyes shifted from Seles to me before she finally spoke.
"Are you okay?"
She asked before releasing Seles’s hand and walking towards an empty counter at the back of the classroom.
I ignored the look of disappointment on Seles’s face because I had a far bigger question at this point.
What the hell is Lily doing... in this elective?
