Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Chapter 399-Oh Comes Her Mate

Verity:

The others came out to welcome Gigi after hearing her voice, and from that point on, it was complete chaos.

Gigi wouldn’t stop gloating about her engagement.

She sat among us, though I bet she would have preferred not to.

She clearly thought herself superior to everyone here.

Even her laugh had changed.

It had become that typical rich-girl laugh.

I didn’t know what had happened to the woman who had been so distressed only a few days ago, screaming in the office and claiming she had been reminded of painful memories and all that shit.

I guess O was right.

We needed to investigate the whole thing and uncover the truth, but this time, everyone needed to know.

And I had to do it before the engagement.

I sat on the couch with Jenna beside me, and I could confidently say neither of us wanted to be there with Gigi.

Lady Lucille had turned her face away.

Mrs. Bundy forced a polite smile because, well, she was obligated to be nice to the girlfriend of the man supporting her family.

Mr. Bundy didn’t seem to care at all. He was busy on his phone.

Theodore and Jaguar, on the other hand, looked perfectly happy sitting on separate sofas near Gigi.

"Verity will be planning the event," Theodore announced, smiling at me.

He probably thought he had gotten lucky by finding a reason to make me stay.

But the truth was, the thought of planning Gigi’s engagement was genuinely upsetting.

I didn’t understand why these men couldn’t see that even though Gigi and I rarely showed it openly, there was a lot of history between us.

She claimed my brother had tortured her.

Her brother had tortured me.

Why would anyone think forcing me to plan something for her was a good idea?

"Oh, yeah, I heard about it. The minute they told me, I was like, okay, it better be good. She never misses," Gigi remarked.

I gave her the fakest grin I could manage before deliberately letting it disappear.

It was my way of showing her that I wasn’t interested in playing games.

Did she care?

Of course not.

She was on another level today, practically glowing with happiness.

"Anyway, I was thinking I’ll help Verity with the preparations too. I have a certain way of doing things, so I’d like to assign tasks to everyone."

As expected.

Gigi had to involve herself in everything so she could take all the credit later.

"I don’t mind," I replied. "It’ll be interesting to watch the Alpha King’s future Luna work for the first time. Exciting, wouldn’t it be?"

It was clearly a jab at her.

What made it worse for Gigi was that Jenna and Lady Lucille both burst out laughing.

Her lips tightened before she redirected all that irritation toward the easiest target in the room.

The victim of her own brother.

Jenna.

"Jenna, I’m surprised to see you here," she commented.

The moment Gigi said her name, I felt Jenna tense beside me.

"Why? What’s so surprising about it?" Lady Lucille questioned before anyone else could.

"Oh, no, no. It’s just... confusing," Gigi replied. "I thought you guys were leaving. And I’m so glad you’re not, because otherwise, how would you attend our engagement ceremony? I’m just, like, confused."

There she was.

That was exactly how Gigi worked.

If someone laughed at her, she couldn’t let even a minute pass without finding some way to get back at them.

"No. I’ve decided to stay here for a few more days," Jenna answered.

I immediately noticed Gigi’s expression beginning to sour.

"That’s good, but, like... is there a reason?" she pressed with another fake smile. "I mean, we should know too. Is there some good news? Are you doing something? Tell us. Come on, don’t hide it from us. We’re all family."

That bitch.

She was really taking it too far.

"It’s okay. If she doesn’t want to talk about it yet, she can tell us when she’s ready," I cut in, placing my hand over Jenna’s and giving it a gentle squeeze.

Jenna smiled at me.

And judging by the way Gigi’s expression darkened, that simple gesture bothered her more than anything else.

She couldn’t stand seeing someone else being treated well.

If she wasn’t the center of something good, apparently no one else deserved to be either.

"Perhaps the reason is me."

The voice didn’t belong to anyone sitting in the room.

It came from the entrance.

Every head immediately turned in that direction, and one by one, confused frowns appeared across their faces.

I quickly glanced at Jenna.

Her eyes had gone wide, shock written all over her face.

Even the color seemed to drain from her skin, leaving her noticeably pale.

"Bruno," she breathed, saying his name with such difficulty that I immediately knew something was going on.

"Why would she be staying here because of you?" Jaguar questioned.

Of course he would ask. Jenna was considered part of the family, so naturally, he wanted an explanation.

Bruno stepped farther inside, dressed in a black suit with his hands slipping into his trouser pockets.

I caught the harsh scowl that immediately appeared on Gigi’s face.

"What’s going on?" I whispered to Jenna.

She only gulped in response.

"Yesterday, at Jenna’s mate ball..." Bruno paused briefly. "I felt the mate bond with her."

The revelation seemed to hit the entire mansion like a shockwave.

I watched everyone’s reactions unfold around me.

Some looked confused, while others appeared genuinely happy.

Gigi covered her mouth with both hands, but something about her expression felt wrong.

Out of everyone in the room, she seemed the least pleased.

In fact, she was the only one with an unmistakably sour look on her face.

After staring at Bruno for a moment, everyone turned toward Jenna for confirmation.

She slowly lowered her hands into her lap and nodded.

"Yeah. We felt the mate bond last night."

With that, she lifted her gaze to me, then looked toward Grandma Lucille and her mother.

Finally, her eyes settled on Bruno.

I was stunned.

But now Grandma Lucille’s concern made sense.

Something had happened last night.

I just wasn’t sure yet whether it was good news or bad.
