Chapter 266-All The Hoes Around Me
Gigi:
I had seen everything, or so I thought.
When I arrived at the event, I was surprised to see how beautifully Verity had planned it, all for Jenna.
Honestly, it just kind of put me in a sour mood because why was she putting so much effort into someone who wasn’t even part of the family?
The fact that Verity did it for her truly upset me.
But then again, what was I to expect from Verity? Hadn’t she been making wrong decisions all along?
Hadn’t she done some weird magic on the Alpha King brothers to make herself look like a victim in contrast to my brother?
I wore a beautiful pastel gown, but Verity’s dress stood out more.
And it wasn’t because half of her boobs were trying to spill out.
Maybe it was because she was wearing dark colors, and dark colors kind of stood out, even for the wrong reasons.
The red was so bright, I could not.
Mine was beautiful, but people mostly talked about how good my face looked.
It kind of bummed me out when nobody said I was carrying the dress beautifully.
In other words, it really bothered me.
But I sucked in a deep breath and decided to just not pay attention to the negative side of people.
They were all just jealous of me.
These were the kind of people who would only praise a poor woman because they knew the poor girl could never be their competition.
After that, I just stood in the corner, watching Verity and Jenna interact with everyone.
But when it was time for the cake feeding, Jenna completely overlooked me.
And my stupid ass even stepped forward to accept a bite from her.
The minute I opened my mouth, she just walked past me and fed Verity.
When did she get so close to her?
Then it hit me.
Whatever I had told my brother just to stir up some emotions against Verity was actually true.
It was Verity all along who had been trying to get Jenna to convince Jenna to spill her secrets.
Maybe she was the one helping Jenna.
But would that mean Verity already suspected my brother was behind everything?
I mean, my brother was a little dumb. When I suggested it, he didn’t suspect it.
He didn’t even ask me why Jenna would talk to Verity, which could lead the investigation back to him.
Because Jenna didn’t know it was Oliver in the first place.
So my brother was dumb.
And I knew how to handle dumb people and use them for my benefit.
But the problem here was Jenna and Verity’s interactions.
If they got too close, Verity would find out, or she would go around talking to people and somehow trace everything back to my brother.
I only grew more anxious when, a little while later, I noticed the way Jaguar was standing with her and talking to her.
All in all, it was just a little bizarre to me.
He did approach me to talk about the stuff, Theodore did as well.
Otherwise, I just remained silent the whole time.
And then came the moment when things got even worse.
"You’re not eating anything," Ragnar said, gesturing for the maid to bring me some starters.
"I’m not hungry," I said, immediately raising my hand to stop the maid.
The maid kind of froze halfway, unsure whether she should continue toward me or listen to me and walk away.
"Why are you so upset?" Ragnar asked me.
I had my fists clenched beneath my arms, thinking about the whole investigation involving my brother.
It wasn’t good for me either.
"I thought you, Gigi, would take it very seriously. Because if anyone understands the feeling of being abused, it should be you."
Ragnar’s words made me turn to face him, tilting my head as I waited for him to add something along the lines of how he wasn’t suggesting that my brother had abused her.
But when he didn’t, I had to speak up.
"You know it’s a wild claim that my brother abused her."
As soon as I said it, Ragnar flinched.
Then my eyes moved to his hands. They were in his pockets.
Ragnar hated that. He wasn’t supposed to do that.
Ragnar was someone who didn’t change his habits.
He remained the way he was from beginning to end.
So whenever I noticed even a little change, it just scared me.
Then my eyes moved back up to his face, and I cleared my throat.
"You don’t understand. It’s not that simple for me, Ragnar. It’s not only that there’s an investigation that’s going to start, but the fact that—" I paused, taking a deep breath.
"But the fact that if my brother really did it, I’ll hate myself forever."
Now I was finally acting like myself.
His face started to soften.
"I understand, but this is what I’ve been trying to tell you. It’s not your fault," he said calmly.
And as he was about to say something else, Mrs. Bundy suddenly appeared, holding a full tray of starters and shoving them into her big, fat face.
"Alpha King Ragnar, your secretary," she said, swallowing the bite and pointing toward the kitchen. "I think she’s having a stomach ache. She can’t even move right now. I told her I would ask you to check on her."
She walked away, leaving me stunned.
Why the heck was she talking to my man about his secretary?
Why did she want him to go and check on her?
"Excuse me," Ragnar said, causing my jaw to meet the floor when he started heading toward the kitchen.
My eyes moved around, and I noticed only Jaguar was present.
If Theodore had been there, I would have asked all three of them to go together because I didn’t want anyone going alone to check on that bitch.
But what the fuck was this whole deal?
Why would Ragnar be going there to check on her?
