Chapter 225-The House Of Crazies
Verity:
Gigi had told me she wanted to come with me to get my phone repaired.
After that, we were supposed to go out for dinner, just the two of us.
I was already stressed, wondering what task she was going to give me next because she was going to use me as her personal spy now.
At the same time, I spent the rest of the day in my room since Ragnar never came out of his either.
Theodore and Jaguar had already returned home, but the strange thing was that neither of them tried to come see me.
I couldn’t help but wonder if they had talked about me together.
That was the problem with playing a game so close to home.
You never knew whether people were sharing information behind your back.
What surprised me, though, was finding out that Jenna hadn’t come out of her room at all.
Something had changed about that girl.
I didn’t know why I had started taking such an interest in her.
Maybe it was because, somewhere deep down, she reminded me of myself when I was naïve.
The difference was that I had my brother. He had always protected me from everything.
But Jenna—
Why did I have this feeling that she had no one?
Actually, she did have someone.
Gigi.
The moment I stepped out of my wing, I stopped at the beginning of the hallway.
At the other end, Gigi and Jenna were standing together, talking.
Jenna looked deeply disturbed, but Gigi spoke to her dismissively before walking away.
Jenna took a long, deep breath before heading toward the fairy garden.
I slowly made my way down the hallway, wondering what Gigi and Jenna possibly had in common that could lead to a friendship.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw everyone enjoying themselves.
Jenna was sitting with Lady Lucille.
Mrs. Bundy was watering one of the trees.
Mr. Bundy was sitting with Jaguar and Theodore on beautiful white french settee benches, drinking tea and talking.
On the other side stood Ragnar with Gigi.
She was saying something to him while they stood beneath a beautiful blossom tree.
When I entered the garden, I had no idea where I belonged.
Just then, I noticed Ragnar’s eyes turn toward me before they both quickly looked away.
Taking a deep breath, I looked ahead again, only to find Theodore and Jaguar watching us.
It was as though they were carefully observing us.
A chill ran down my spine, but I reassured myself that I was overthinking it and kept walking.
I still didn’t know where to go, so I decided to carry my book over to one of the swings.
That’s exactly what I did.
I spent less time reading the book than I did reading the people around me.
Theodore and Jaguar kept glancing my way.
Then there was Ragnar.
Every time he looked at me, his face turned so red that it seemed he might melt from embarrassment.
It was strangely endearing to see such a big man blush so intensely.
I couldn’t help but wonder if he had never seen a naked woman before.
I mean, I didn’t believe Gigi had stayed away from him, so why did he become so flustered whenever he looked at me?
Then my gaze landed on Jenna.
I couldn’t look away.
Something was missing.
Her usual spark was gone.
Her eyes kept drifting toward Theodore, filling with tears every single time.
Then she would quickly blink them away before anyone noticed.
There was also a bump on her forehead.
Had she hurt herself?
Why hadn’t anyone treated her injury?
"So, what do you think of my fairy garden?"
My attention snapped back to Gigi. I hadn’t even realized when she had walked over to me.
She sat beside me on the swing, and I set my book aside, gently rocking us back and forth.
Ragnar had already gone to sit with his brothers.
"You decorated it?" I asked and Gigi nodded proudly.
"I handpicked everything myself. It was for Ragnar and me. I wanted us to spend time here and feel like we were in a fairy tale. You know, I designed the garden on the other side with a completely different theme. I did all of it myself."
She spoke with both hands pressed proudly against her chest.
So while my brother’s world had been falling apart, and no one had even been willing to give him a place to be buried, she had been sitting here decorating a garden for herself.
"It’s really pretty," I said.
She smiled before hopping off the swing and settling into the chair across from me.
Crossing one leg over the other, she idly swung her foot.
"So, we’ll leave, get you a new phone, have your old one fixed, and then we’ll have dinner. Just the two of us."
She was repeating the same plan she’d already told me about earlier.
I nodded, pursing my lips.
Suddenly, I noticed her body stiffen as she looked off to the side.
I followed her gaze and saw Jenna walking toward us.
She sat in the chair right beside Gigi, smiling brightly.
"Jenna, what happened to your forehead?" I asked.
Her smile slowly faded.
She touched the bump absentmindedly, her gaze drifting away.
"I fell and hit my head early this morning," she murmured, lowering her eyes before turning to Gigi.
"I heard you guys are going out for dinner tonight. Can I come?" she asked softly.
"Um! Jenna, you know Lady Lucille would be really upset. She doesn’t want you hanging around with us."
Gigi gestured between herself and me.
I frowned at her.
Why the fuck would Lady Lucille stop a grown woman from spending time with other people?
I mean, I understood Gigi was a complete mess, but what about me?
What had I ever done?
Then it hit me.
Oh.
So it was because of my brother.
"But I have to come. You know I have to."
Jenna paused.
Then I noticed her silently mouthing something to Gigi.
