Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife

Chapter 417 - 392: Your Eyes Are So Red, Have You Been Crying?

Inside the hospital room, Zoey Zane sat on her bed, greeting a guest with a wide smile.

When Nancy looked over and saw that the guest was Dylan Heston, she was too stunned to speak.

"Nancy, what are you spacing out for!" Zoey Zane shot her an anxious look, signaling for her to stop standing in the doorway like a block of wood.

Riley Caldwell, who had never met Dylan Heston before, peeked out from behind Nancy Hughes. He glanced at the man, then at his own sister’s flustered expression, and asked curiously, "Sis, who’s this uncle?"

"What uncle? He’s your sister’s boyfriend! Heston, I hope my son hasn’t embarrassed you," Zoey Zane loudly scolded Riley, but Dylan Heston said, "It’s fine."

"How did you get here?" she asked, slowly walking over to him. As she got closer, she caught his scent, which brought a wave of reassurance.

"You didn’t want me to come?"

"No..." she replied softly.

"Nancy, honestly! You have a boyfriend, but last time you told us he was just a friend. What is there to be shy about? We’ll all be family sooner or later!" It was clear Zoey Zane was very fond of her son-in-law.

Zoey Zane was a woman from a small town and knew nothing about Dylan Heston’s background.

All she knew was that in every aspect—from his appearance to his demeanor to his overall bearing—the man before her was a hundred times better than any of the men from around here.

Men from the big city really were different.

"Nancy, hurry and get Heston some water! What are you daydreaming for?" Seeing her daughter’s sluggishness, Zoey Zane couldn’t help but feel anxious on her behalf.

"She’s probably just flustered to see me," Dylan Heston explained with a smile, drawing a hearty laugh from Zoey Zane.

As the saying goes, the more a mother-in-law looks at her son-in-law, the more she likes him. And this son-in-law even knew how to stand up for her daughter.

As if Dylan had hit the nail on the head, Nancy Hughes stopped in her tracks. She glanced back at him before going to pour the water.

She handed it to him and said softly, "My phone was..."

"It’s okay, we can talk about that later." Dylan Heston squeezed her hand and met her gaze with a reassuring look. Nancy Hughes smiled back at him.

Nancy Hughes truly hadn’t expected him to come, and an indescribable emotion was about to burst from her chest.

Her gaze on Dylan Heston grew more intense. He met her eyes, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, his breath warm, "A look like that could make me think you want me."

Unable to handle his verbal teasing, Nancy Hughes instantly averted her gaze and lowered her head.

’His sudden appearance was making it impossible for me to control my emotions.’

"I’m just kidding. I love the way you look at me," he added, but Nancy Hughes refused to lift her head to look at him again.

Dylan Heston had rushed here in the morning and hadn’t eaten anything yet, so Zoey Zane told Nancy Hughes to take him for a walk around the area.

Although it was a small town, it still had plenty of local specialties to eat.

The two of them left the hospital, one walking in front of the other. Dylan Heston, who was in the lead, suddenly stopped and waited for her.

She looked up and saw him holding out his hand to her. She quickened her pace to catch up, placing her hand in his palm.

She sniffled. "How did you find me here?"

"Finding people is my forte," Dylan Heston said.

Nancy Hughes didn’t quite believe him. ’Sinea is a huge country; how could he have known where I would be?’

"Let’s find a place to stay first," Dylan Heston said, taking the opportunity to pull her into his arms. Nancy Hughes nodded.

The hotels in town were basic, but they would have to do.

Once they got a room, Dylan Heston took off his jacket. "Alright, you can explain now. Why was your phone off?"

He grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her onto his lap, so she was sitting face-to-face with him.

"My phone was stolen. I wanted to call you, but I couldn’t remember your number!" Her voice was very soft.

Her entire body was practically nestled in his embrace, and she was keenly aware of his warmth and his scent.

"131..." Dylan Heston suddenly recited a string of numbers. Nancy Hughes looked at him in surprise. "That’s my phone number. You need to memorize it, just in case you lose your phone again."

Uh...

Dylan Heston lifted her chin. "Your eyes are so red. Have you been crying?"

"No," she denied. Uncomfortable with his close scrutiny, she twisted her head, breaking free from his grasp.

She was suddenly reminded of the time they’d met by the restroom, when he had leaned in and asked if she was crying.

"I’m here now. You can cry as much as you want; no one will laugh at you." Dylan Heston knew she was embarrassed, so he reached out and pulled her into his embrace. "Nancy Hughes, give me your heart. I’ll take good care of you."
