Chapter 415 - 390: A Self-Spun Cocoon, Part 1
Nancy Hughes wanted to refuse. She thought she was fine sleeping where she was. Besides, she slept soundly and wouldn’t toss and turn all night.
However, Dylan Heston gave her no chance to refuse, forcefully yanking away her blanket and pulling her into his embrace, quilt and all.
Nancy’s heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would leap out of her chest. She softly called his name, "Dylan Heston."
"Hm?"
’Can you please let me go? Can’t we just sleep on our own sides? Please?’
Nancy didn’t have the courage to say it out loud. She looked at Dylan Heston with a woeful expression and grabbed his arm in a panic. "Dylan, I’m scared. I’m not ready yet."
A man and a woman, alone in the same bed—it would be hard for something not to happen.
Besides, she and Dylan Heston were a normal couple, and he was a normal man.
It was normal for a man to have physical needs, but she was genuinely afraid.
Nancy’s voice became incredibly soft, almost pleading with him.
Silence fell between them, so quiet they could clearly hear each other’s tangled, frantic breaths.
After a few minutes, she heard his breathing above her grow heavier, and her suspended heart leaped a little higher. Then she heard Dylan Heston say, "Don’t worry. I won’t touch you until you’re ready."
Honestly, Nancy Hughes really believed him.
They hadn’t known each other for long, and her knowledge of him was still shallow, but she still believed him.
Reassured, she looked up at Dylan Heston’s face. After a long hesitation, she placed her hand on his waist and hugged him tightly.
She snuggled into his embrace, burying her face in his chest.
’I have to try and slowly accept Dylan Heston, to accept everything about him.’
She had thought she would suffer from insomnia, but she never imagined she could sleep so well through the night while hugging a man.
「The next day.」
The two of them slept in late. The curtains were drawn tightly, making it impossible to tell what time of day it was outside.
She turned over, feeling a bit cold, and instinctively snuggled closer to the source of warmth beside her, burrowing her head under the covers.
Dylan Heston found the way she slept adorable, like a little girl.
Nancy Hughes loved to sleep in, but after a while, she felt something was off.
Her eyes shot open to see Dylan Heston’s magnified face right in front of her. For a moment, she thought she was dreaming.
She jerked her head back, only realizing it was real when Dylan Heston greeted her, "Morning!"
It was only then that she remembered they had indeed slept together last night.
She gave a dry laugh and greeted him back, "Morning!"
It wasn’t early at all. After Nancy Hughes glanced at her phone, she saw it was already past nine.
Dylan Heston got up to make breakfast. When Nancy Hughes came out of the bathroom after washing up, Blue came running toward her, crying, "MEOW, MEOW."
"Just wait, I’ll get you some food right now." Nancy picked him up and stroked his cheeks. The more she looked, the chubbier she thought he was, but also very cute.
She put him down, found a can of cat food in the fridge, and opened one for him to eat.
Blue ate happily, finishing the can in no time.
After eating his fill, Blue went out onto the balcony and sprawled out, licking his fur while basking in the sun.
Dylan Heston had also finished making breakfast. Nancy saw him walk out of the kitchen carrying a bowl.
’When I first met him, I never would have guessed he was the kind of perfect guy who could shine in the living room and in the kitchen.’
The contrast between him in a suit and him in casual clothes at home was huge.
After breakfast, there was really nothing to do at home.
Remembering a few movies that had recently come out, she suggested they go see one.
Dylan Heston had no objections, so they drove to a movie theater.
The theater was crowded. Luckily, they had bought tickets on the way over. They only had to wait for ten minutes before going inside.
Nancy Hughes had chosen a sci-fi blockbuster. She had always loved these kinds of superhero sci-fi movies, but she had no idea if Dylan Heston would like it.
Dylan Heston was very well-mannered. He watched quietly from beginning to end, unlike the people around them who were making noise while eating. There was even one person who snored through the entire movie.
The movie was a little over two hours long. When they came out of the theater, Dylan Heston kept her protectively in his arms.
There were many other couples at the theater, and quite a few of the girls were incredibly envious that Nancy Hughes had such a handsome and considerate boyfriend.
After the movie, they had planned to go get something to eat, but just as they were leaving, Dylan Heston got a phone call.
The call was from Hannah Gunn. She was pestering him unreasonably on the other end. Dylan Heston’s tone was helpless as he said he really didn’t have time.
Eventually, he simply handed the phone to Nancy Hughes. Nancy took it in a fluster and heard Hannah Gunn’s crying voice.
Whenever Hannah Gunn asked Dylan Heston out, he would drop whatever he was doing to spend time with her.
Over time, this had become a habit.
Hannah Gunn believed that no matter what Dylan Heston had going on, nothing was more important than her.
Hearing Hannah Gunn’s sobs, Nancy Hughes looked up at Dylan Heston and said awkwardly, "Hello, this is Nancy Hughes."
"Nancy Hughes? Why is it you? Where’s my Don?!" The crying instantly stopped, replaced by a fierce tone. "It must be you! That’s why Don won’t talk to me! Nancy Hughes, give me back my Don!"
The way she said it made it sound like Nancy had stolen Dylan Heston from her.
She looked at Dylan Heston, troubled, wanting to shove the phone back at him. She mouthed the words, ’I really can’t do this.’
Hannah Gunn was a love rival, wasn’t she? She couldn’t handle this.
Besides, she had already witnessed how incredibly unreasonable Hannah Gunn could be, and it was no small thing.
Dylan Heston took the phone, hung up immediately, and then turned it off.
"Now you know why I keep my phone off when I’m abroad?" Dylan Heston tossed the phone to her.
Nancy broke into a nervous sweat and put his phone in her pocket.
They found a restaurant near the theater. Just as they sat down and ordered, her phone rang.
Hannah Gunn wasn’t someone who gave up easily. When she couldn’t get through to Dylan Heston, she asked Gwen Gunn for Nancy Hughes’s number.
"Nancy Hughes, I’m telling you, Don is mine! You need to leave him now!" Hannah Gunn said fiercely.
Nancy Hughes was at a loss, not knowing what to say into the phone.
Dylan Heston took her phone. "Stop throwing a tantrum like a child. You’re a grown-up now!"
After saying that, he turned off Nancy Hughes’s phone as well.
With both of their phones turned off, it was finally quiet.
Dylan Heston’s mood wasn’t affected at all. After lunch, they strolled around for a while before heading back.
The weather was getting hotter, and they had worked up a sweat walking around outside.
Exhausted, she returned to the apartment and took a hot shower.
After she finished, Dylan Heston went in to take his.
Hearing the doorbell ring, she ran to open the door.
Seeing it was Kyle Kerr, she quickly let him in. "Hello."
"Miss Hughes, hello," Kyle Kerr greeted politely.
He was carrying a suitcase. Nancy looked at it in surprise. He explained, "These are the clothes Mr. Heston asked me to bring over."
Inside the suitcase were Dylan Heston’s clothes and some personal belongings.
His intention couldn’t be clearer.
Nancy Hughes gave an awkward smile. Kyle Kerr was a perceptive man and didn’t ask any more questions.
Hearing the sounds from the bathroom, he said, "Miss Hughes, I’ll be leaving now!"
"Okay, take care on your way out!"
"Miss Hughes, please, don’t see me out!" Kyle Kerr immediately backed out of the apartment and left.
Closing the door, Nancy turned back to look at the oversized suitcase, wondering just how many clothes were packed inside.
Just as she opened it, the man in the bathroom called out to her, "Bring me a change of clothes."
"Coming!" she called back, raising her voice.
’No wonder he went in to shower without taking anything. So this was all planned.’
’A new set of clothes... does that mean I have to bring him *that* too?’
She placed his clothes by the bathroom door. "The clothes are at the door. You can get them yourself."
Dylan Heston had brought a lot of clothes—suits and casual wear alike.
After Dylan Heston finished his shower and came out in clean clothes, he found Nancy Hughes hanging his clothes one by one in her closet.
Luckily, her clothes didn’t take up much space, so a good half of the closet could be cleared out to hang his things.
Half the closet was now filled with a man’s clothes. Nancy Hughes stared blankly. ’Why does it feel like Dylan Heston and I are already living together?’
"What are you thinking about?" Dylan Heston had come up behind her at some point and wrapped his arms around her waist.
Nancy still wasn’t used to suddenly having a man in her home, and Dylan Heston’s embrace startled her.
But she didn’t show too much shock. She shifted a little, getting used to his hug.
"Good thing I don’t have any expensive clothes, or there’d be no room for your suits!" she murmured, making Dylan Heston laugh out loud.
"Well that’s an easy fix. Want to get a bigger closet?"
"This is a rental apartment. If I get a new closet, wouldn’t I just be doing the landlord a favor?"
"Then move in with me. My closet is huge!"
"..." Honestly, she had almost gone along with what Dylan Heston said.
The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward. Nancy gave a dry laugh. "I’m going to go do the laundry!"
As Nancy did the laundry, she silently cursed herself for being so dense.
Their relationship had just started to get closer, but her thoughtlessness had created distance between them again.
Dylan Heston’s work was very demanding, and it seemed he often had to travel.
For example, this time, he went to Akashima.
But what was different this time was that they stayed in touch.
Compared to texting, Dylan Heston preferred calling Nancy. He wanted to hear her voice over the phone.
Dylan Heston was in Akashima for five days, and they had five phone calls, mostly at night.
Nancy had seen the photos Georgia Thorne had posted and longed to visit Akashima. Unfortunately, she had neither the time nor the money.
Dylan Heston was there for work and didn’t know much about the tourist spots in Akashima. He said, "I’ll bring you to Akashima with me next time."
"Really?" Nancy sat up in bed, unable to hide the excitement in her voice.
Dylan Heston, in a good mood, hummed in agreement. "You like Akashima?"
"It’s not that I ’like’ it, exactly. I just want to see the cherry blossoms in Akashima. I’ve heard they’re especially beautiful."
"We’ve already missed the peak bloom for this year’s cherry blossoms. I’ll bring you next year."
