Chapter 289: A Wily Hare Has Three Burrows
"Forget it," Locke shook his head. "Too bloody, not good."
As he spoke, Locke raised his hand and lifted Moneypenny by the throat with a single arm.
Lifted off the ground, Moneypenny's feet instantly began to kick frantically in mid-air.
Locke looked expressionlessly at M. "It's fine, you can keep your mouth shut. I still have plenty of people to go through. Your family, your colleagues… there are bound to be a few you care about. I will find them."
M's face looked incredibly ugly.
"Despicable."
Locke let out a soft chuckle.
Moneypenny gripped Locke's arm tightly with both hands, trying desperately to pry his arm away, but it was nothing more than an exercise in futility.
Locke wasn't in any rush. He had plenty of time.
M's face remained dark, her mind racing with unknown thoughts.
Gradually, the twitching of Moneypenny's legs began to slow down.
M finally broke under the pressure.
"Release her!"
"Speak!"
"MI5! The ICA belongs to MI5!"
"Oh?"
Locke raised an eyebrow, and with a soft thud, Moneypenny collapsed limply onto the ground.
MI5?
Interesting.
"Names!"
Locke stared at M, who had rushed over to Moneypenny's limp form and was shaking her body, and said directly.
"Give me names."
M hovered over Moneypenny's body.
The next second, M spun around sharply, a miniature pistol already gripped in her hand.
She wanted to turn the tables!
But…
"Bang!"
"…"
M instantly froze in place, a highly conspicuous bullet hole resting right in the center of her forehead.
Thud!
Locke frowned slightly as he looked at M's collapsed body. Letting out a disdainful chuckle, he raised his gun and fired a follow-up shot right into Moneypenny's brow before turning around and leaving directly.
The moment Locke stepped out of the MI6 building, his clone inside—which had been engaging countless agents in a fierce gunfight—vanished into thin air with a soft whistle, dissolving completely into black mist.
By the time the horde of agents swarmed into the area, all they could find were the firearms that had just clattered onto the floor after falling from mid-air.
A black sedan arrived exactly as scheduled.
Red pushed the car door open from the inside.
Locke got straight in.
"How did it go?"
"MI5!"
Red took the three perfectly uncreased files handed over by Locke. Hearing those words, he raised an eyebrow.
"Wasn't it MI6?"
Locke shook his head and looked at Red.
"She shouldn't have lied to me."
A dying person's words are usually honest, after all.
Locke considered himself a very kind and honest person who was always willing to believe what others said.
Red shook his head. "So, what do you plan to do next? Charge straight in?"
Locke laughed softly, pointing at the upcoming intersection.
"Right here. I'll get out."
Dembe parked the vehicle without a single word.
Locke pushed the car door open, a cigarette hanging from his lips, and flagged down a London taxi.
"Raymond."
Dembe watched the departing taxi, pulling back his wary gaze, and handed the phone to Red in the back seat.
Red took the phone.
The moment he looked at the screen, a massive breaking news alert caught his eye. MI6 Director M and her assistant Moneypenny had been found severely injured on the rooftop and were rushed to the hospital for emergency resuscitation.
"Oh!"
Red let out a sound of surprise. "Not dead?"
Sitting in the driver's seat, Dembe listened to Red's words and felt that he sounded a bit like someone who just wanted to watch the world burn.
"If Peerless had truly killed M and her assistant, London would go mad. The matters we want to handle would probably be affected too."
Red laughed heartily, adjusting his hat once more. "I'm just curious. This doesn't match his usual style."
However, Red had no intention of asking.
The kid's killing intent was already fully aroused. At a time like this, it was best not to go looking for trouble.
[Ding!]
[Location Card used successfully!]
[Tracking Target: Agent 46!]
[Ding!]
[Information incomplete. Pay 10,000 Achievement Points and 10,000 Potential Points for automatic completion?]
[Complete!]
[Tracking initiated!]
Sitting in the taxi, Locke opened his eyes and looked at the driver beside him.
"Driver, change of destination. We're not going to the museum anymore. Head to Canary Wharf."
The taxi driver nodded.
Originally, Locke hadn't wanted to use this feature that bled his Achievement Points and Potential Points.
But he needed a swift resolution.
He had, after all, put a bullet straight through the head of the MI6 Director.
Even though Britain was like a setting sun right now, a furious Britain could still be quite formidable. Locke came here to complete a mission and fulfill his promise, not to test his ability to take on the British establishment single-handedly.
Maybe in the future.
Right now? Not yet!
Deep inside the lower levels of a five-story building sitting right along the riverbank in Canary Wharf.
Mr. C and Mrs. A had already heard the news from MI6 by now.
However, after exchanging a brief look, Mr. C and Mrs. A both read the same realization in each other's eyes.
This fast?
They had anticipated that the Peerless Assassin would enter London quickly, and they had already locked down all major airports, even mobilizing every surveillance camera in London to capture him.
Yet…
"Where is he?"
"He vanished."
"What?"
"That doesn't matter. What matters is how much he managed to find out from M."
"Where is M?"
"The hospital."
"Fuck!"
Looking at Mrs. A who had stood up, Mr. C smiled and said, "Don't worry, A. He won't find this place."
"Easy for you to say," Mrs. A stood up, letting out a cold laugh as she stared at Mr. C, who was still sitting in his conference chair.
"If you're so capable, why don't you and I stop using holograms to show up here?"
With that, Mrs. A pressed the button on the desk, instantly activating the entire building's security systems. Even Agent 46, who had been sitting there silently with his head lowered the entire time, looked up and walked out the door with an expressionless face.
Mr. C's figure flickered slightly.
If one looked closely, they would realize that Mr. C wasn't actually present in the flesh. He was merely projecting his image here via a holographic device.
"Mrs. A, rest assured. If he dares to come, I will—"
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
Before he could finish his sentence, exactly like the situation over at MI6, piercing alarms instantly shattered the air.
The conference table in front of them immediately lit up, shifting to form a massive display screen.
In the frame, within the lobby of the ground-level building.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
With a flick of Locke's right hand, three bullets flew out of the chamber, instantly knocking down the projectiles firing at him from three separate directions.
The next second, gunfire erupted violently!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The exquisite sounds of gunfire felt as though they were composing a beautiful symphony.
*Sip!*
Locke took a sip of the coffee he had purchased from an Italian café he passed along the way. Stepping over a sea of shattered glass and corpses, he walked up to a heavily concealed camera and raised his coffee cup slightly.
"Hello!"
Instinctively, Mrs. A slapped the switch, shutting the camera down immediately.
Seeing this, Locke couldn't help but laugh softly.
He turned his head to scan the surroundings. The streets outside were entirely deserted; after all, the gunfire from just now was no joke.
Trying to play a numbers game against him?
What were they thinking?
Locke focused on the small red tracking dot in his line of sight, walking forward until he stood directly above a spot with no visible markers, but one that overlapped perfectly with Agent 46's tracked location.
There was originally no path in the world; it was only created when many people walked it.
Similarly, the same applied to doors!
The Peerless Divine Weapon shimmered with energy, and in an instant, it transformed into a high-powered laser cutter.
*Sizzle!*
Sparks flew in every direction.
Down below, inside the conference room.
Mr. I had naturally witnessed the Peerless Assassin slaughtering his way straight to the front door as well, seeing the assassin's display of overwhelming might with absolute clarity. A glint of light flashed through his eyes as he spoke to Mrs. A.
"Get over to my location immediately."
Mrs. A was completely panicked by this point.
Just then.
Buzz!
Snapping back to her senses, Mrs. A looked up toward the ceiling where the cutting operation was underway. Recalling Mr. I's words, she nodded.
"I'm coming right now."
Mr. C's hands tapped continuously on the interface in front of him. In an instant, countless files began executing a deletion protocol.
Boom!
The exact instant Locke dropped through the ceiling, the submachine guns in his hands whirred like typewriters, firing in a sweeping circle at his surroundings. The soldiers waiting in the basement didn't even have time to react before they dropped dead on the spot.
Thud!
Locke landed firmly on his feet, the Golden Dancer returning smoothly to his right hand. Right after, accompanied by a roaring buzz, he witnessed the sight of Agent 46 speeding away on a jet ski with an old woman in tow.
But…
Locke turned his head to look at the computer rapidly executing the deletion protocol, and then at Agent 46 who was fleeing for his life but still firmly locked in his tracking system.
Striding right through the glass door, he ended a struggling soldier who was trying to reach for a gun with a single shot. Then, pulling a USB drive from his breast pocket, he plugged it straight in.
The running deletion protocol was instantly aborted.
The next second, Locke pulled the USB drive out and turned to leave. As for how much information could be recovered from that computer, it would depend on whether his clone back in New York was up to the task.
Although the clone didn't inherit any of his combat capabilities, standard technical skills were a different story.
"A wily hare has three burrows!"
"MI6 was the first burrow!"
"This place is the second burrow!"
"I'd like to see just where your third burrow is hidden."
Locke walked over to the hidden hatch connecting to the London waterways, mounted a black jet ski, fired up the engine, and with a loud roar, surged straight out into the canal.
The next second.
"Don't move!"
"LPD!"
"LPD!"
Just like in the US, the Scotland Yard officers—who invariably arrived only after the grand battle had concluded—found the scene completely deserted by the time they rushed in.
However…
Before the Scotland Yard officers could even process their shock over the sea of corpses, they noticed the massive display screen suddenly flashing a ticking, red countdown for a self-destruct sequence.
"Holy shit!"
"Fall back!"
"Get out, get out fast!"
"Get out now!"
"…"
