Harry Potter: Fire Lord Black

Chapter 47: Devil’s Snare

"Great!" Ron rushed up, patting Harry on the shoulder, "Awesome, Harry!"

Hermione also breathed a sigh of relief, a look of relief appearing on her face.

Edward looked at the key in Harry's hand, a flash of understanding in his eyes, but he didn't speak.

Harry took the key, walked to the tall wooden door, and inserted the key into the keyhole. With a crisp "click," the lock opened in response.

Pushing the door open, inside was a huge chessboard room. There was no light source in the room, only moonlight leaking in through the crack of the door, illuminating the huge chessboard on the floor. On the chessboard were life-sized chess pieces, each wearing shining silver armor, holding sharp swords or shields, their expressions solemn, like real knights.

"wizard's Chess." Ron's eyes lit up instantly; this was what he was best at. He walked quickly to the chessboard and bowed to the pieces, "Please advise."

The pieces bowed in succession, emitting a dull sound of metal clashing, which echoed in the empty room, appearing particularly eerie.

"We need to pass through this chessboard to get to the door on the other side." Hermione looked at the chessboard, her expression heavy, "wizard's Chess is a life-and-death game; one wrong step and you will be attacked by the pieces. Ron, you are the most knowledgeable about chess among us, you command."

Ron nodded, his eyes becoming completely focused. He walked to one end of the chessboard and said to Harry and Hermione: "You two become pieces and follow my instructions. I'll be the Knight."

Harry and Hermione nodded, walked onto the chessboard, and transformed into two pieces.

Edward leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching coldly. He had never had any interest in such games that required careful calculation and even putting oneself in danger. The game began.

Ron's instructions were clear and decisive, and every step was executed with great precision. The "King" Harry had transformed into moved cautiously, while the "Queen" Hermione had transformed into was responsible for attacking, clearing obstacles all the way.

The opponent's pieces were not to be outdone; the Knight's sword gleamed with a cold light, the Bishop's movements were tricky and ruthless, and the Queen was invincible, pressing forward step by step.

The chess match was exceptionally intense, with the clanging of metal and the dull thuds of falling pieces echoing one after another. Fine beads of sweat seeped from Ron's forehead. He stared fixedly at the chessboard, his brain racing, not daring to relax for even a moment.

Suddenly, the opponent's Queen launched a fierce attack, slashing off Ron's "Bishop" with one sword strike. The moment the piece fell, Hermione let out a cry of pain, her face turning a few shades paler.

"Look out!" Ron shouted. "The opponent's Queen is too powerful; we must find a way to get rid of it!"

He pondered for a moment, then suddenly made a shocking decision. He looked at Harry, his tone grave: "Harry, you must move forward three steps to attract the attention of the opponent's Queen. I will act as bait to lure it away."

"No!" Harry immediately retorted. "If you do that, you'll be captured!"

"It's the only way!" Ron's gaze was incredibly firm. "Only this way can you reach the finish line smoothly. Trust me, Harry!"

He took a deep breath and commanded his Knight to charge toward the opponent's Queen.

"Ron!" Hermione exclaimed.

The opponent's Queen was indeed lured; it brandished its sharp sword and slashed toward Ron's Knight.

"Bang!" The sword struck the Knight's armor heavily, emitting a deafening crash. Ron's Knight collapsed with a boom, turning into a pile of scrap metal.

At the same time, Ron let out a shrill scream, his body went limp, and he fell straight down, passing out completely.

"Ron!" Harry and Hermione exclaimed, rushing over and anxiously calling his name. Hermione crouched down, checked Ron's breathing, and let out a sigh of relief: "He's just fainted; there's no danger to his life."

Edward merely glanced indifferently at the unconscious Ron, then walked straight across the chessboard toward the door on the opposite side. His footsteps landed on the squares of the chessboard, making a faint sound, but those stationary pieces showed no reaction at all.

"Hey! Can't you help?" Harry turned back and glared at him, his tone filled with dissatisfaction. With Ron unconscious, he was seething with anger.

Edward didn't stop, saying without looking back: "He just fainted, he won't die. If you want to stay here and watch over him, I don't mind going ahead on my own."

Looking at his cold back, Hermione couldn't help but mutter: "What a cold-hearted guy. The courage of Gryffindor is probably worthless in his eyes."

Harry gritted his teeth, looked at the unconscious Ron, then at the tightly shut door opposite, and finally made a decision. Together with Hermione, he laboriously dragged Ron to the corner of the wall by the chessboard and let him lie against the wall.

"Ron, wait for us." Harry whispered, then quickly caught up to Edward.

Pushing the door open, a heavy smell of blood rushed to their faces, mixed with the distinct, foul odor of a Troll, making their stomachs churn.

The room was dimly lit, and moonlight spilled in through the window, illuminating a scene in the corner - a Troll at least three meters tall was lying on the ground, sprawled out, its head tilted to one side, with a noticeable indentation on its forehead; it had clearly been knocked unconscious by someone using a heavy object. The wooden club in its hand had fallen to the side, rolling to the doorway with a dull thud.

Harry and Hermione looked at the unconscious Troll, their expressions complex. They would never forget the chaos at the beginning of the school year, when they had faced a Troll head-on in the girls' bathroom and nearly lost their lives.

"It seems someone arrived before us." Edward looked at the unconscious Troll, a mocking curve appearing at the corner of his mouth. "When you dealt with a Troll before, it became known to the whole school. Now that you see this one, which was easily knocked out by someone else, don't you feel a bit embarrassed?"

Harry and Hermione's faces both turned red. They naturally remembered that chaos caused by the Troll, which ended with them being punished with detention by Professor McGonagall. They hadn't expected to be mocked by Edward for it.

"Cut the crap." Harry glared at him and quickly stepped past the Troll, heading toward the next door. He could feel a scorching breath coming from behind the door, as if there were flames burning.

Hermione also glared fiercely at Edward, then quickly followed Harry.

Edward watched their backs, curled his lip, and followed them as well.

Pushing the door open, a pungent smell of potions rushed to their faces, mixed with the scorching breath of flames. On the table in the center of the room, seven bottles were arranged, containing colorful liquids. Some were bubbling, some were emitting a faint mist, and others were flowing slowly at the bottom of the bottle like mercury.

Beside the table lay a roll of parchment, covered in dense handwriting.

At the end of the room was a wall of roaring flames. The flames were several meters high, a strange purple color, emitting a scorching heat that warmed the entire room. On the other side of the wall of flames, a door could be vaguely seen; that must be the final entrance.
