Chapter 303
Chapter 303
"Waa, waa, waa!"
Beep!!
The two sounds synchronized, startling Yueqian slightly. She couldn’t understand what was happening. The continuous beeping of the heart monitor indicated that Furen Yan was about to pass away.
Yueqian was extremely alarmed. She quickly looked for a defibrillator, thinking that the prolonged lack of oxygen had caused the heart to stop. Using the defibrillator might help revive Furen Yan.
However, as Yueqian was frantically searching, little Xihao’s eyes widened, and he started pointing urgently at Furen Yan’s body!
"Waa, oo, waa, waa!" It was as if the child was trying to communicate something. Yueqian knew her son wasn’t an ordinary child, so she looked at him, confused.
In the infant’s perspective:
As he watched his mother trying to save Furen Yan, the unconscious woman suddenly opened her eyes. The middle-aged woman looked around in confusion before locking eyes with Xihao. Furen Yan, now with dark circles under her eyes, slowly rose. However, what Xihao saw was a translucent version of Furen Yan standing up while her physical body remained lying down, being treated by his mother.
Xihao was shocked. He didn’t expect to witness a ghostly encounter. At the same time, the heart monitor’s beeping confirmed that the other party had died, and her spirit was now floating in front of him.
The middle-aged woman seemed unaware of her situation. She smiled at him with those dark-circled eyes and walked towards him slowly, her gaze full of affection. It was as if she didn’t realize she had died.
Xihao pointed frantically, trying to make her look behind her and realize she had become a ghost. Shouldn’t she feel sad, cry, or be in denial?
He also saw a faint red, translucent thread connecting Furen Yan’s real body to her spirit. Every time she moved further from her body, the thread became more translucent, as if it were about to disappear. Xihao could only hope that Furen Yan would stop focusing on him and look at her own body.
Perhaps sensing that he was trying to communicate something, the young woman stopped searching for the equipment to save Furen Yan and came over to him. As his mother walked, she passed right through Furen Yan’s body, making the latter realize that something was terribly wrong.
It would have been strange if she hadn’t noticed—having someone walk through her body was a clear indication that she had died.
Furen Yan was shocked. She looked around and saw her own body lying on the bed, with something covering her nose, likely placed by Furen Mu in an attempt to help her. Despite this, she had left her body. Did this mean she was truly dead?
"No, no, no, sob, sob," the middle-aged woman cried out in distress. She ran back to her body, making the red thread slightly more visible, though not as vibrant as when she first left her body.
"What happened, Xihao?" His mother’s gentle voice diverted Xihao’s attention from Furen Yan’s spirit. He looked at his mother, who had developed special abilities after leaving their original world.
He felt a surge of excitement. Since being reborn as an infant, he hadn’t discovered any special abilities of his own. He had assumed it was because he was still young and his powers hadn’t awakened yet. But now, realizing he could see spirits, he knew his ability was related to this.
He wanted to tell his mother, feeling he could do something significant. At the very least, he thought the red thread meant something. He just needed to avoid the dark thread that was becoming more pronounced.
"Waa," he cried, pointing his chubby finger at Furen Yan’s body, where her spirit hovered. His mother seemed confused but didn’t hesitate. She immediately carried him over to Furen Yan’s body.
This was why he believed his mother was so capable. Even when he couldn’t speak clearly, she had a remarkable ability to anticipate. He believed his mother knew he came from another world and retained his previous memories. When she discovered this, she taught him many things, even letters and reading. It was an unusual method to others—how could a mother teach her child to read when he was less than a month old?
But... because of this, he had already learned a bit of reading.
"Eh?" As his mother carried him to the bed, Xihao, unable to move due to his fragile bones, tried to point here and there to guide his mother closer.
When he finally touched the red thread, a reaction occurred!
The initially faint red thread suddenly turned a deep red. Furen Yan seemed unable to see the thread, but her spirit looked at Xihao as if sensing something. He noticed that as the red thread intensified, the black thread gradually faded. He felt hopeful that what he was doing might succeed.
"Xihao, what are you doing?" His mother asked, puzzled, as the heart monitor continued to beep. Xihao didn’t respond. He focused on the red thread, willing it to become more vivid. Eventually, Furen Yan’s spirit made a sound.
"Ah." And then, her spirit was drawn back into her body. The heart monitor’s beeps returned to a steady rhythm, "beep,” “beep,” “beep."
Hearing this, Yueqian turned to check the heart monitor, now back to normal. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she looked at the baby in her arms. As soon as Furen Yan’s heart rate normalized, Xihao gave a wide smile for two seconds before falling asleep.
"Xihao, do you have powers?" She murmured worriedly, gently laying the baby down on the bed to let him rest.
She needed to carefully examine Furen Yan again, ensuring such an incident wouldn’t happen again.
After spending most of the day, by sunset, Yueqian felt more at ease. Furen Yan’s pulse and other vital signs had stabilized. Meanwhile, Xihao had woken up, cheerful as ever. Ah... perhaps even better than before.
"Xihao, thank you for helping save Furen Yan, but you know it’s dangerous, right?" She took the opportunity to warn him. She didn’t want him to reveal his abilities completely, as even she hadn’t disclosed everything about her powers to everyone.
"Waa," the little boy responded, still very excited.
"My powers are known only to you. Others might know bits and pieces but not the full extent. We need to keep some secrets to ourselves, or we might face trouble in the future," she explained.
"Waa, waa."
"Additionally, you must adapt to living in this world. Death can happen at any time, even to those we love or know. We cannot help recklessly. You need to think carefully about the consequences. Otherwise, your kindness might lead to everyone’s demise."
".........." This time, the child did not respond, but his eyes held an inexplicable fear.
Yueqian gently stroked his head without saying anything further, allowing him to contemplate on his own. She herself had no one to guide her on how to behave. In the end, experience in this world was crucial, and so was retaining traits from her past life. She couldn’t definitively say that her choices were always right or that they were the best to make. With her past marred by betrayal and hurt, Yueqian never easily trusted anyone.
Perhaps her Xihao was loved by everyone and had always met good people willing to help him. It wasn’t wrong for a kind-hearted child like him to be this way. Her role was simply to support him and keep him safe.
While the mother and son were reflecting on their past, it seemed the owner of the manor couldn’t stay calm any longer. He knocked a few times before speaking.
"Furen Mu, how is my wife?" Official Yan asked nervously. He had been pacing back and forth outside all day, unable to enter for fear of disturbing Furen Mu during her treatment. Yet, he desperately wanted to be with his wife and know how his wife was doing.
"Oh, you can come in now. Furen Yan is safe," Yueqian responded. She picked up her baby to her chest again to avoid giving the impression that she had let Xihao sleep comfortably while Furen Yan was in a critical condition. Although it wasn’t wrong, it wouldn’t look good.
"What nonsense did you say, Furen Mu? Did I hear you correctly that Furen Yan is safe?" As the door opened, it wasn’t Official Yan who entered first but a royal physician. His face showed disbelief.
It turned out that these royal physicians hadn’t left. They had been waiting outside the whole time, spreading rumors about how arrogant Furen Mu was for dismissing them to play around and test her skills. The visitors coming to check on Furen Yan had all heard how boastful Furen Mu was, going so far as to send the royal physicians outside so she could experiment.
So, those waiting outside found the situation highly inappropriate. Many came and left, but some stayed to see how things would unfold, waiting until evening to verify the outcome.
However, when they heard Furen Mu’s response, her voice was remarkably relaxed, and she said Furen Yan was safe! It wasn’t just the royal physicians who were shocked; everyone else was equally surprised. After all, the royal physicians had initially declared that Furen Yan couldn’t be saved. Now, how could she say that Furen Yan was safe?
Wasn’t this like slapping the royal physicians in the face, making them cry for mercy?
"Oh, these royal physicians who spoke nonsense about Furen Yan having no chance of survival." But was Yueqian the type to back down? After doing good but being accused of nonsense, how could she remain smiling?
Yueqian threw the same words back at the royal physicians, making their faces darken. If it hadn’t been for Official Yan, who, excited by what he heard, rushed forward first... there might have been a confrontation between Furen Mu and the royal physicians.
"Furen Mu, is it true that my wife is safe?" Seeing Official Yan’s happiness, Yueqian stopped paying attention to the others and nodded to him instead.
"Yes, she is safe, but she still needs plenty of rest." Hearing this, Official Yan rushed to his wife.
Seeing her much-improved complexion and her breathing no longer labored and weak, he felt assured that Furen Mu’s words were indeed trustworthy.
"Furen Mu, thank you, thank you so much," he looked at the other party, smiling through his tears. But the royal physicians were not convinced. They pushed their way in to check Furen Yan’s condition themselves.
