Chapter Thirty-Two — The Oil Claim of Ur
The outer audience chamber was quiet, lit by morning light streaming through reed lattices. Saphira stood near the center. Two of her personal guards waited a respectful distance behind her.
“Saphira,” Zephyr greeted, voice measured.
She smiled. “Spark of Inanna. Or should I say husband of the new High Priestess? You move quickly.”
Zephyr didn’t smile back. “What brings you to Uruk so soon?”
Saphira stepped closer, her bracelets clinking softly. “You received everything you asked for.”
Her eyes sharpened. “We had an agreement, Zephyr Kane. It is time to honor that debt.”
Zephyr’s jaw tightened. “I just stabilized Uruk,” he said. “The city is still bleeding. If I leave—”
“Then it bleeds without you,” Saphira cut in smoothly. “Do not make me regret helping you.”
A long silence stretched between them. Zephyr rubbed a hand over his face “I’ll come,” he said finally, voice heavy. “But not forever.”
Zephyr stood alone for a long moment, shoulders tense. Then he exhaled slowly and walked back into the inner chambers.
Ila and Aylin were waiting. Ila had changed into formal High Priestess robes, while Aylin wore her leather armor.
Zephyr looked at both of them, his expression serious. “I have to go to Ur.”
Ila spoke. “You should not leave.”
“I know but if I break the pact, we’ll have a new enemy on our doorstep,” He replied.
Aylin’s jaw clenched. “How long?”
“I don’t know yet. But I’ll return as soon as I can.”
He turned to Ila, squeezing her hand. “Keep researching the tablets. The old records. Whatever you find, keep it between us for now.”
Ila met his gaze steadily, though worry flickered in her eyes.
Aylin pressed her forehead against his. “Don’t make me come drag you back from Ur.”
He held her there a moment longer. “I need you to keep searching for Ninsara,” he said. “If the news hasn’t reached her yet, make sure it does. Tell her… tell her that I’m asking her to come back. Not as my woman, but as the commander this city still needs.”
Aylin studied him for a long moment, then gave a single sharp nod. “It will be done.”
In the inner chambers, silence settled heavily once Zephyr’s footsteps faded. Ila stood motionless for a moment.
“I do not trust her,” Aylin said finally, her voice low and bitter. “Saphira is a serpent wrapped in silk.”
She fixed her gaze on her. “He would have listened to you. Instead, you stood there and let her lead him away.”
Ila turned, her expression calm but weary. “Jealousy is a storm that blinds us if we let it rage unchecked. Saphira is clever, but perhaps the Goddess has placed her in our path for a reason. ”
The journey to Ur stretched under a blazing sun. Zephyr rode in silence beside Saphira, the steady rhythm of hooves on baked earth the only sound between them for long stretches
The gates of Ur rose.
“Welcome to Ur,” Saphira said. “Again.”
Zephyr scanned the bustling streets as they passed through the gate. Canals cut through the city like veins, markets spilled into narrow alleys, and the scent of river mud, spices, and heated bronze filled the air.
“You’re already looking for weaknesses,” Saphira noted with a faint smile. “Good.”
They dismounted near a large private warehouse complex overlooking one of the wider canals. Attendants hurried forward to take the animals.
Saphira led him inside without ceremony and stopped in the center of the main chamber and turned to face him fully.
“You kept your word and came,” she said. “Many men in your position would have found excuses once they had what they needed.”
“I gave you my word,” Zephyr replied evenly. “I intend to honor it.”
The heavy cedar door whispered shut behind the guards. Saphira’s private chamber glowed with the soft light of oil lamps, the air thick with rose, myrrh, and warm almond oil.
Four young attendants entered silently. Zephyr’s shoulders tensed the moment he saw them. “Not again,” he murmured.
Saphira gave a low, amused chuckle. “Lie down, Zephyr Kane. The journey has left its mark on both of us. Let us ease our bodies.”
She let her outer robe slip from her shoulders and stood bare in front of him.
Zephyr followed, removing his own garments. His cock, already half-hard, rose further as his eyes traced her body.
“Your main canal has inconsistent pressure. Stagger the releases instead of full cycles and you’ll reduce waste significantly.”
As she turned and bent to lower herself onto the wide cushioned platform, Zephyr’s gaze dropped. For a brief, searing moment he saw the soft, swollen lips, nestled between her thick thighs.
Saphira stretched herself face-down upon the platform with a contented sigh,
Zephyr settled onto the platform beside her. Saphira lay face-down, her heavy breasts squished luxuriously against the cushions, soft flesh spilling out at the sides, while her generous ass lifted invitingly into the air.
“You saw that from the road?” she asked.
At her subtle nod, the attendants moved.
Two young women knelt beside Saphira. They poured a generous stream of warm oil across her shoulders and down the elegant length of her back. The golden liquid glistened as it flowed over the smooth curve of her waist and onto the generous, rounded swell of her ass.
Meanwhile, the two attendants beside him poured oil down his own back. Their skilled hands worked firmly over his shoulders. “Yes… If you raise granaries with improved ventilation and bitumen-sealed jars that could preserve grain for over a year instead of spoiling within months.”
One attendant’s hands spread the oil on Saphira with slow, deliberate strokes, kneading the full, heavy cheeks before letting her fingers glide sensually between them, coating every intimate curve. Saphira sighed deeply, her hips shifting once in quiet pleasure.
“With these changes… Ur could feed half of Sumer and still have enough left to sell at famine prices,” she said.
One attendant’s fingers boldly slipped between his cheeks, massaging the sensitive skin there, while the other gently cupped and oiled his balls, rolling them with light, teasing pressure. “Then my part is done,” Zephyr replied, his legs shaking with pleasure. “I've given you knowledge worth more than a season's harvest. I should return.”
Saphira laughed softly. “Done? You think I'll let the man with all the answers walk away?”
“Saphira...”
“You promised to help Ur. You'll stay until these fields prove your words. A deal is a deal.”
Zephyr could not look away from her hips. The lamplight caught every glistening contour — the soft, powerful roundness of her ass, the deep cleft between the plush cheeks, the way the oil made her skin shine like polished bronze. The sight was hypnotic.
Zephyr’s breath hitched. Blood rushed south. His cock began to harden rapidly against the linen beneath him.
One of the attendants working on him noticed it. A soft, barely suppressed giggle escaped her lips.
Saphira turned her head lazily toward him, catching the flush on his face. “Something stirs you already?” she murmured, voice rich with amusement. “And the attendants have not touched you.”
Zephyr cleared his throat, trying to maintain composure even as the attendant’s fingers continued their slow, slick work on his balls.
Saphira continued, her own voice slightly husky as her attendants worked oil deep between her cheeks.
“Tell me truthfully… is Ila-Seret truly Inanna reborn? Or was that declaration merely honey for the ears of the crowd?”
Zephyr kept his eyes on Saphira’s glistening body, the words coming slower than he intended. “I believe she is,” he answered. “Or something very close to it.”
Saphira let out a soft moan as one attendant’s fingers pressed deeper along her oiled cleft.
“We honor Inanna, of course,” she said, breathing a little heavier. “But in Ur, Utu the Sun have always held greater reverence.”
She glanced at him, eyes gleaming. “So if your priestess is Inanna reborn… does that make you Utu returned in mortal flesh?”
Zephyr exhaled shakily as the attendants moved down to his legs. “I do not know what I am anymore.”
Saphira smiled. “You have taken Ila as your sacred wife before all Uruk,” she said, “Does the High Priestess know where her husband’s gaze wanders when she is not present?”
Zephyr’s voice was rough. “I love her with everything in me. I would do anything for her. She has already shown she can accept sharing. She approved of it.”
Saphira’s eyes darkened with interest. She shifted her hips slightly, pressing back against her attendants’ slick fingers.
“Then perhaps,” she purred, “she would also approve of you sharing with me?”
Zephyr coughed, caught completely off guard. Heat flooded his face.
Before he could respond, a low murmur of urgent voices rose from somewhere outside the chamber — several men speaking in hushed, serious tones.
Zephyr lifted his head. “What is that noise?”
Saphira did not even open her eyes, her body relaxed. “Nothing of concern,” she murmured. “Such sounds are common. Leave it.”
At that exact moment, the main door burst open.
A woman stormed in, carrying a two-year-old boy on her hip. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, her face pale with shock. She wore fine robes befitting royalty, but they were disheveled.
The four attendants immediately dropped to their knees, bowing deeply. “Queen Shubad,” they murmured in unison.
Shubad’s gaze swept over the scene. Saphira lying naked and glistening with oil, A man equally exposed beside her. For a brief second, surprise flickered across her tear-streaked face, but it was quickly swallowed by grief.
Saphira lifted her head sharply, all languid sensuality vanishing in an instant. She sat up, not bothering to cover herself fully.
“Shubad?” Her voice was tight with sudden concern. “Sister. What has happened?”
Zephy quickly reached for his discarded robe, pulling it over his lap and half-covering his still-hard cock in an attempt at modesty.
Shubad was strikingly beautiful, perhaps a few years older than Saphira. Her rich dark hair spilled in loose waves over an elegant linen robe left slightly disheveled by grief. Tears glistened along her high cheekbones, her fuller lips pressed together as if holding back another sob. Her eyes were red and swollen, yet the gold bracelets at her wrists and the delicate lapis lazuli necklace at her throat still gave her the unmistakable bearing of a queen.
For a brief second, Shubad’s gaze flickered downward, lingering for a fraction of a moment on Zephyr’s exposed, glistening erection before snapping back up.
Her lips trembled as she clutched her young son tighter to her chest.
“King Urlumma… my husband…” Her voice cracked, fresh tears spilling down her face. “He has been murdered.”
