Chapter 92: Gardens with Gabriel. Introducing Angels.
You reach out and run your fingers through Ikaros's pink hair, the synthetic strands sliding smoothly against your palm. She stands perfectly still, processing the contact.
"You looked beautiful in those poses," you tell her. "The photographs captured your precision perfectly."
"Aesthetic assessment appreciated," Ikaros responds. "Query: Does physical contact serve communicative function beyond verbal praise?"
"It reinforces the verbal message through touch," you explain. "Multiple sensory inputs create stronger impressions."
Ikaros nods once, her rose-colored eyes fixed on yours with mechanical focus. You let your hand drop from her hair and turn toward Gabriel.
The Chief Seraph still holds her three photographs carefully, though her attention has shifted entirely to you. Those ocean blue eyes watch with open curiosity.
"I asked Ikaros what she wanted to do," you say. "Now I'm asking you the same question, Gabriel. What would you like us to do together?"
Gabriel blinks, clearly not expecting the question. "You're giving me the choice?"
"I am."
She glances down at the photographs in her hands, then back up at you. "I suppose the obvious answers would be prayer, or spreading Heaven's message, or addressing petitions from the faithful."
"Those are your duties," you counter. "I'm asking what you personally want to do. Not obligations. Not responsibilities. Just what would bring you satisfaction."
Gabriel's wings shift against her back. She sets the photographs down carefully on her dresser, taking her time with the placement. When she turns back, there's a thoughtful expression on her face.
"I've spent most of my existence in service," she says slowly. "Duty has always defined my actions. The concept of choosing something purely for personal satisfaction is rather foreign."
"Then take your time thinking about it," you tell her. "Consider what you might enjoy."
Gabriel walks toward her window, looking out over Heaven's crystalline landscape. The afternoon light catches in her golden hair, creating soft highlights. Her six wings fold against her back in a contemplative posture.
"There are gardens in Heaven's southern quarter," she finally says, not turning around. "Created by Father in the early days. I used to walk through them occasionally between duties, but I haven't visited in centuries." She pauses. "They were peaceful. Beautiful in ways that didn't require action or response, just appreciation."
She turns back to face you. "Would that be acceptable? Simply walking through gardens together?"
Ikaros tilts her head. "Query: Does garden observation provide data collection opportunities?"
"It provides sensory experience," Gabriel answers. "Visual beauty, natural scents, tactile sensations from leaves and petals. Angeloid units process such inputs, correct?"
"Affirmative," Ikaros confirms.
You nod at Gabriel's suggestion. "The gardens sound wonderful, which means I have the perfect place to show you both."
You extend your hands toward them. Gabriel takes your right hand without hesitation, her fingers warm against yours. Ikaros observes the gesture for a moment before placing her hand in your left palm, mimicking Gabriel's grip with mechanical precision.
"Where are we going?" Gabriel asks.
"Nazarick's 900th floor civilization sector. The gardens there contain flora from across YGGDRASIL's nine realms."
You activate teleportation. Reality bends around the three of you, and Heaven's crystalline corridors dissolve into a completely different landscape.
You materialize on a cobblestone path winding through an explosion of color and life. Massive trees with silver bark tower overhead, their leaves shimmering in shades of blue and purple. Flowering vines cascade down from branches, producing blooms the size of dinner plates in colors that don't exist in nature outside of game environments. The air smells of honey and something sharper, almost citrus-like.
Gabriel gasps softly. Her six wings spread slightly as she turns in a slow circle, taking in the sight. "This is extraordinary. I've never seen plants like these."
"Query: Flora classification unknown," Ikaros states. "Spectral analysis indicates photosynthesis patterns inconsistent with Earth-based botanical life."
"Because they're not from Earth," you explain. "The YGGDRASIL game pulled from fantasy archetypes. Some of these plants were designed purely for aesthetics rather than ecological sense."
You begin walking down the path, keeping hold of both their hands. Gabriel matches your pace naturally, her attention fixed on a nearby bush producing fist-sized berries that glow faintly from within. Ikaros maintains perfect step synchronization on your other side, though her rose-colored eyes track rapidly between different specimens.
"That one is called Starlight Bramble," you tell Gabriel, nodding toward the glowing bush. "The berries are edible and taste like strawberries mixed with champagne."
"Can we try one?" Gabriel asks.
You lead them over to the bush and pluck three berries. The fruit pulses with soft white light in your palm. You hand one to each woman and keep the third for yourself.
Gabriel bites into hers carefully. Her eyes widen. "Oh. That's delicious. The carbonation sensation is remarkable."
Ikaros consumes her berry in one bite, chewing mechanically. "Flavor profile confirmed: sweet with acidic notes and pressurized gas content producing oral tactile stimulation. Nutritional value minimal."
"Not everything needs nutritional value," Gabriel says gently. "Sometimes pleasure is enough justification."
You continue walking, pointing out various specimens as you go. A tree with bark that shifts through rainbow colors. Flowers that chime softly when the breeze touches them. A pond filled with lilies that bloom in geometric patterns. Gabriel asks questions about nearly everything, her scholarly curiosity evident. Ikaros records observations with mechanical efficiency while occasionally asking for clarification on biological impossibilities.
After a while, you release Gabriel's hand and turn to face both women. "Gabriel, you're welcome to return here whenever you wish. The dungeon passageways makes it simple enough."
Gabriel nods, her wings folding neatly against her back. "I appreciate that. The gardens are extraordinary."
"For now though, we should visit Carne Manor," you continue. "I'd like to introduce you both to the new residents there. They've had time to share a meal together by now."
Ikaros tilts her head. "New residents. Query: Additional harem members acquired since last data update?"
"Five women Code Geass, one from Gundam Seed." you confirm. "Rescued from timelines with guaranteed death scenarios. They're still processing the transition."
Gabriel's expression grows thoughtful. "They must be quite overwhelmed. Moving between worlds, learning about entirely different realities."
"Exactly why introducing a pair of angels now makes sense." You extend both hands again. "Ready?"
Both women take your offered hands. Teleportation magic activates smoothly, and the fantastical gardens dissolve into Carne Manor's entrance hall.
You materialize in the foyer just as voices drift from the common room down the hallway. The sound of multiple conversations overlapping creates a comfortable background noise.
"This way," you say, leading them toward the common room.
As you enter, the scene reveals itself gradually. The long table dominates the center space, with plates and cups scattered across its surface suggesting recent meal completion. Enri sits near one end, her blonde hair catching afternoon light from the windows. Arche occupies a chair nearby, gesturing animatedly while explaining something to Euphemia, whose pink hair falls in gentle waves past her shoulders.
Kallen leans against the far wall, arms crossed, watching the room with guarded attention. Milly occupies a window seat, blonde hair tied back loosely while she reads from what appears to be one of the manor's books. Shirley sits on the floor near the fireplace, her orange magic-cat ears twitching as she plays with Nemu, who giggles at something the cat-girl just said.
Lisara stands near the kitchen doorway, holding a pitcher of water. Her eyes widen when she notices your entrance.
"Blank," she says, her voice carrying across the room. "You're back."
Conversations pause as attention shifts toward you and your two companions. Multiple pairs of eyes focus on Gabriel's six white wings with various expressions of surprise and curiosity.
Villetta rises from her seat at the table, her purple hair shifting as she moves. Her amber eyes assess Gabriel and Ikaros with tactical precision. "New arrivals?"
"Introductions," you confirm. "Everyone, this is Gabriel, Chief Seraph of Heaven, and Ikaros, an Angeloid from the Synapse civilization."
You raise your hand before any confusion can take root. "Ah, before there's a mistake, Gabriel and Ikaros, like Jibril and Victim, are far too powerful to live here in the Carne Village Manor. They live in Nazarick, which while accessible through the dungeon passageway, is not inherently here. I simply thought it would be a good idea for all of you to have your first proper encounter with actual angels sooner in a relaxed situation than later when things are moving."
Enri nods slowly, her red hair catching the afternoon light. "So they're just visiting then?"
"Correct," you confirm. "Gabriel manages Heaven's administrative functions. Ikaros operates from the 999th floor residential quarters. They won't be staying at the manor."
Milly leans forward from her window seat, setting her book aside. "Heaven has administrative functions? That's remarkably bureaucratic for a divine realm."
Gabriel's wings shift slightly. "Prayer requests, blessing assignments, afterlife processing. The paperwork alone requires three full-time archival departments."
"Bureaucracy transcends mortality," Milly observes dryly.
Ikaros tilts her head. "Query: Does manor housing assignment correlate with power thresholds, or purely logistical constraints?"
"Logistics primarily," you answer. "The manor serves those who benefit from proximity to Carne Village. Gabriel needs access to Heaven's systems. You operate better from Nazarick's technical infrastructure."
Arche stands from her chair near Euphemia. "Will we be meeting other Nazarick residents? I've heard mentions but haven't understood the full scope."
"Gradually," you tell her. "Nazarick houses multiple floor guardians, the Pleiades battle maids, and various specialists, most capable of destroying countries and nations individually... Today's introduction focuses on Gabriel and Ikaros specifically because their natures differ significantly from human or demi-human residents."
Kallen pushes off from the wall, arms still crossed. "What makes angels so different that we need special preparation?"
Gabriel meets her gaze directly. "We don't age, don't require food or sleep, and our existence serves purposes defined at creation. Humans live for themselves. Angels live for assignments."
"That sounds depressing," Shirley says quietly from her spot near the fireplace. Her magic-cat ears flatten slightly.
"It's simply different," Gabriel replies without defensiveness. "Purpose provides structure. Your lives allow flexibility mine lacks."
Ikaros adds, "Angeloid units similarly operate within defined parameters. Autonomous preference selection remains challenging without clear mission objectives."
Lisara approaches from the kitchen doorway, still holding her water pitcher. "Will there be more visitors from Nazarick? Should we expect guests?"
"Occasional, casual visits, not regular traffic," you clarify. "The manor remains primarily residence for those assigned here. Nazarick personnel might visit when coordination requires direct contact."
Nemu bounces up from where she'd been playing with Shirley. "Can we visit Nazarick sometime? I want to see where the pretty angel lady lives!"
Gabriel smiles at the child's enthusiasm. "My quarters are quite plain actually. Mostly just administrative records and prayer ledgers."
"That still sounds exciting," Nemu insists.
Villetta speaks up from her position at the table, her amber eyes assessing. "How many entities reside in Nazarick total? Understanding the population helps contextualize these introductions."
You consider the question. "Between floor guardians, specialized servants, and dimensional residents, the full count exceeds several hundred. If you include the mindless monsters then several million. Most of those sentient won't interact with manor operations directly, I even forget many of their names regularly. Some members of my harem may visit, but likely for the purpose of meeting my other lovers."
You move across the common room toward where Alicia and Prim sit together near one of the windows. As you pass Celestine, who stands near the fireplace with a thoughtful expression, you catch her eye briefly. She offers a small nod but says nothing, clearly still processing whatever conversations occurred after her arrival.
Alicia looks up as you approach, her youthful features brightening. You lean down and press a gentle kiss to her lips. She responds warmly, one hand coming up to rest against your chest for the brief contact.
Prim receives similar treatment, though her pink hair shifts as she tilts her head slightly to meet your kiss. When you pull back, she smiles. "Welcome back. The meal went well, though there were certainly many curious glances between everyone."
"I imagine so," you reply, then turn your attention across the room toward where Neia stands near the kitchen doorway, holding an empty plate. "Neia, how are you feeling after the rest?"
The squire straightens immediately at being addressed directly. "Much better, thank you. The Rejuvenating Slumber worked exactly as you said it would. I feel completely restored."
"Good." You gesture toward the gathered women. "Any of the questions ones that I should try to answer?"
Milly speaks up first from her window seat, setting aside the book she'd been examining. "Several, actually. The most pressing being how often we should expect household composition to change. Are you planning additional recruitments soon, or was bringing six of us at once unusual?"
"That was slightly unusual," you confirm. "Most additions happen individually or in pairs, not groups of five or six simultaneously."
Kallen pushes off from the wall where she'd been leaning. "What about training facilities? If we're stuck here indefinitely, I need somewhere to work off energy. Sparring equipment, obstacle courses, something physical."
"The manor grounds include training areas," Alicia interjects before you can respond. "Prim and I have been using them for mounted combat practice."
You add. "I'd prefer you build anything needed, however materials and labor can be purchased."
Shirley raises her hand tentatively from her spot near the fireplace, her cat ears flattening slightly with nervousness. "Are there rules about leaving the manor? Can we go into the village, or explore the surrounding area?"
Enri answers that one, her red hair catching the afternoon light. "You're free to visit Carne Village whenever you want. The locals are friendly, though they'll be curious about new faces. Just be aware that they know Blank is powerful, so they'll treat anyone associated with him with considerable respect. As for the surrounding area, be careful no to wander into the forest, monsters are known to wander."
Villetta crosses her arms, her amber eyes focused on you with tactical assessment clear in her gaze. "What about communication? If something urgent happens, how do we contact you when you're away?"
"Enri, Nemu, Lisara, Yor and Fiona wear rings that allow mental communication, if needed." you explain. "For those without rings, Nazarick servants monitor the manor area and can relay messages instantly. There is also the Dungeon Passageway on that wall which allows travel into the Nazarick, all you need to do is ask it to lead you to me."
Lacus speaks up from where she sits at the table, her pink hair framing delicate features. "Will we meet other members of your harem regularly? I understand some live in this Nazarick, rather than here."
"Occasionally," you tell her. "Today's introduction of Gabriel and Ikaros represents the kind of periodic contact you can expect. Most Nazarick residents won't visit frequently unless coordination requires it, otherwise the difference in scale is too big. Consider this, The three angels, Jibril who you met earlier, Gabriel and Ikaros each have the capability to erase countries, why would they entertain themselves with a manor of girls who only half know mundane self defense?"
