Chapter 60: The Codex of Logos has acknowledged the change.
You rise from the throne, Oriax shifting smoothly off your lap as you stand. "Then we have our choice. My next stop is Heaven to make a deal with the angels. Who's coming with?"
Albedo steps forward immediately, golden eyes gleaming with interest. "I would be honored to accompany you, Master."
Grayfia inclines her head. "As would I. Heaven should see what they've lost to the underworld."
Oriax smooths her maid uniform, crimson eyes thoughtful. "A mother-daughter appearance in enemy territory. How delightfully provocative."
Jibril's wings flutter once. "I require data on Heaven's current operational parameters. Accompanying you serves dual purpose."
Ikaros remains perfectly still, emerald eyes calm. "Master requires Ikaros?"
"Yes," you confirm. "I'll need you."
You gesture, silver light coalescing into a dimensional gate. Not the usual shimmering portal, but a pinpoint aperture in reality itself, bypassing every ward, every guardian station, every monitoring enchantment Heaven possesses. The Codex of Logos pulses faintly in your inventory, confirming administrative override.
"I'm not wanting to announce us to the other realms, so I'll silently gate us straight into Heaven, skipping the monitored entrances. We'll take a leisurely stroll towards the core as everyone panics around us. Jibril and Ikaros aren't exactly angels. Albedo is an unknown demon, and a famous mother-daughter devil duo showing up in Heaven should cause quite the panic. Until someone actually tries to stop us, Jibril can introduce us."
Albedo's smile turns predatory. "Psychological warfare before negotiation. Efficient."
You step through first. The transition is seamless, reality folding around you like silk. Heaven's outer gardens materialize around your group, crystalline trees catching eternal golden light, pathways of polished white stone stretching in geometric perfection. Your presence suppression is absolute. Not a single detection enchantment registers your arrival.
Albedo follows, her demonic aura radiating clearly despite your own stealth. The moment she crosses the threshold, warning chimes begin ringing in distant towers. Grayfia and Oriax step through next, silver hair gleaming, crimson eyes surveying Heaven with cold assessment.
The reaction is immediate. A patrol of lower angels rounds a crystalline hedge, freezing mid-stride when they see the devil maids standing calmly in Heaven's gardens. One drops his golden spear. Another actually stumbles backward.
"Intruders! Devils in the outer gardens! Alert the garrison!"
More angels appear, pouring from side paths, forming loose defensive formations. They see you, clearly see you walking among the group, but when they try to scan your aura, their senses slide off nothingness. Confusion ripples through their ranks faster than fear.
"Is that... a human?"
"No aura. Nothing. How is there no aura?"
"Impossible. Every being has an aura-type!"
You begin walking toward Heaven's core, strolling leisurely along the white stone path. Your group follows in formation, Albedo beside you, the Lucifuge pair flanking, Jibril and Ikaros trailing slightly behind.
Angels scatter before you like birds before a predator, reforming at safer distances, calling frantically for reinforcements. The gardens fill with winged figures, hundreds of lower angels converging, none daring to attack but all shouting warnings.
"How did they bypass the gates?"
"Where are the guardians?"
"Someone fetch Michael!"
You pass a fountain of liquid light, its crystalline basin reflecting Heaven's eternal noon. The angels part around your group like water around stone, their panic building with each step you take deeper into their realm, yet every single one who tries to read you comes away with the same maddening result: blank. Nothing. A walking absence in their perception of reality.
Grayfia speaks quietly, voice carrying perfect amusement. "They're terrified. Not one has tried to engage us."
"They remember the war," Oriax replies. "They remember what Lucifuge maids meant on battlefields."
A senior angel finally pushes through the crowd, wearing ornate golden armor marking him as a captain. He plants himself in the path ahead, raising both hands in a warding gesture.
"Halt! By authority of Archangel Michael, you are commanded to surrender and explain your presence!"
You continue walking. The angel's eyes widen as you pass directly through his ward without acknowledgment. His gaze locks onto your physical form, but his supernatural senses find no anchor, no label, no power tier. Pure cognitive dissonance.
Jibril speaks then, voice carrying clearly across the gardens. "We are here at the invitation of Heaven's new administrator. Stand aside."
The captain's face drains of color. "New... administrator? That's impossible. The Codex-"
"Is under new management," Jibril finishes calmly. "The system has been transferred. Resistance is unnecessary and ill-advised."
The angel staggers back a step, looking around wildly as though expecting reinforcements to materialize. None do. His gaze darts from Albedo to Grayfia to Oriax, then locks onto you again, seeing a man, but sensing nothing. No threat level. No alignment. Nothing.
More angels arrive dozens, then hundreds forming a loose perimeter. Their weapons are drawn but not raised. Fear ripples through their ranks like wind through feathers.
You keep walking. The crowd parts reluctantly, creating a corridor of trembling wings and golden armor. Whispers spread faster than footsteps.
"Devils in the gardens..."
"The Lucifuge maids..."
"How did they get past the gates?"
"...and that man... why can't I read him?"
You reach the inner gardens, where crystalline spires rise like frozen flames. The central cathedral looms ahead, its doors sealed with layers of divine wards. Angels in higher ranks lieutenants, captains, a few minor seraphim gather at the entrance, forming a defensive line.
Michael himself appears in a flash of white light at the top of the steps, golden armor gleaming, six wings spread in full display. His face is calm, but his eyes burn with controlled fury.
"Devils," he says, voice carrying across the gardens like distant thunder. "Explain yourselves."
You stop at the base of the steps, hands casually in pockets. Your group halts behind you.
Jibril steps forward slightly, voice clear and precise.
"Archangel Michael. Heaven's administrative system has been transferred to new ownership. The Codex of Logos has acknowledged the change. We are here to discuss terms."
Michael's wings flare wider. "The Codex does not transfer without divine consent."
"It has," you say, speaking for the first time. Your voice carries no effort, yet every angel present flinches as though struck. The wards around the cathedral flare red, then white-hot, then shatter like glass.
Angels stagger. Some drop to their knees. Michael's face goes pale as his own aura scan washes over you and returns... nothing.
You smile faintly.
"Now," you say. "Shall we talk?"
Michael's wings remain spread wide as he studies your group, his gaze lingering longest on you, the man whose presence returns only void to every angelic sense. His jaw works silently for a moment before he speaks.
"Very well. We will talk."
He descends the cathedral steps with measured grace, golden armor catching the eternal light. Angels part before him, creating a corridor of nervous wings and white robes. When he reaches the base of the steps, he stops three paces from you, close enough to speak without shouting, far enough to maintain tactical distance.
You gesture,"Grayfia, Oriax if you would please, I believe my identity would be easier accepted by someone known."
Grayfia steps forward, crimson eyes meeting Michael's blue ones directly. "I am Grayfia Lucifuge, daughter of Lucifer, heir to House Lucifuge. My mother, Oriax, head maid of our estate." She pauses, letting that sink in. "This man is Lord Blank, a traveler between dimensions. He exists outside your reality's normal laws. Our detection spells fail because he originates from a place where such mere categories don't apply."
Michael's face remains impassive. "Multiversal travel is theoretical at best."
"You're speaking with devils who entered Heaven through unopened gates," Oriax replies smoothly. "Theory became practice the moment we arrived."
You take over. "The Codex of Logos was transferred to me. Your administrative system is under my control now, whether you acknowledge it or not."
Michael's wings flare wider. "That's impossible. The Codex cannot be transferred without divine consent."
"Your God gave consent." You watch his face carefully. "Before he passed beyond reach. Along with the Four Great Satans, all sealed in temporal stasis to preserve what remains of their existence."
The color drains from Michael's face. Around you, angels gasp, some stumbling backward. A younger seraph actually drops her sword, the golden blade clattering on white stone.
"Lies," Michael breathes. "Father would never abandon Heaven."
"He didn't abandon. He prepared." You keep your voice even. "He transferred authority to someone capable of maintaining the system he built. That's me. The Codex acknowledged the transfer. Check for yourself."
Michael's eyes go distant for a moment, his consciousness reaching toward Heaven's administrative core. You feel the Codex pulse in response, confirming your authority through channels Michael can perceive. His face goes from pale to ashen.
"It's true," he whispers. "The Codex recognizes foreign authority."
"Which brings us to the deal." You step forward slightly. "My multidimensional dungeon takes control of Heaven's operational system. Everything stays functioning as it currently does. No changes to daily operations, no disruption to prayer networks, no alteration of blessing distribution. You keep management authority. Michael remains Archangel. Heaven continues under your direct oversight."
Michael's jaw tightens. "And in exchange?"
"Gabriel comes with me. She'll be able to return whenever she desires, but time doesn't align between dimensions. Years here might be days there, or vice versa. Additionally, we establish exchange protocols. Over the centuries, information, resources, mutual assistance as needed."
"You want to take Gabriel." Michael's voice hardens. "Our chief seraph. Heaven's heart."
"I'm offering partnership with administrative oversight you already lost. Gabriel's presence in my operations represents Heaven's interests across dimensional boundaries. She becomes your liaison, not my captive."
Michael looks between you and the Lucifuge pair, calculation warring with anger in his expression. "And if I refuse?"
You gesture casually. The detection wards surrounding the outer gardens simply stop functioning, their golden light winking out like extinguished candles. Angels cry out in alarm. Michael's eyes widen.
"That was a minor ward," you say quietly. "I can shut down anything in Heaven's infrastructure. Prayer routing. Blessing distribution. The barrier separating this realm from the mortal world. All of it answers to the Codex now. I'm offering you a deal because I prefer willing cooperation. But make no mistake, Michael. Heaven is already mine. I'm simply deciding whether you get to stay employed."
Michael stares at you, wings trembling slightly. The weight of his position, his responsibility to the countless souls depending on Heaven's continued function, presses visibly on his shoulders.
"Gabriel must consent," he says finally. "I will not allow you to take her by force."
You chuckle openly, "I made that same agreement with your father. We'll present the offer. She chooses."
Michael exhales slowly. "Then summon her. Let Heaven's heart decide Heaven's fate."
"She is already coming, we just need to wait a minute." you state patiently.
A second later, the cathedral doors swing fully open.
Gabriel emerges first, white robes flowing like liquid moonlight, twelve wings folded elegantly behind her. Her golden hair catches the eternal noon light, halo glowing softly. Behind her come four seraphim escorts, their armor gleaming, expressions a mix of alarm and disciplined readiness. Gabriel's violet eyes sweep the scene, landing first on the Lucifuge maids, then on Albedo, then finally on you.
She stops at the top of the steps beside Michael. Her gaze lingers longest on you, seeing a man, feeling the silence where an aura should be, sensing the Codex's new allegiance pulsing through every ward and prayer stream.
"Michael," she says quietly, voice carrying perfect calm despite the chaos around her. "The Codex has shifted. I felt it during the blessing ceremony."
Michael nods once, jaw tight. "It has. This... being claims authority over Heaven's systems. He offers a deal: a dungeon assumes operational control, you accompany him to other realms as liaison, Heaven remains under my oversight. No disruption to core functions."
Gabriel's twelve wings shift slightly, the motion sending a soft chime through the air. She descends one step, violet eyes never leaving yours.
"You are the one who bypassed every gate and ward," she says, not a question. "And you are the one the Codex now recognizes."
You nod once. "Blank is my name. Traveler of dimensions. The Codex transferred authority from your Father before his passing. I am here to formalize that transfer and extend an offer."
Gabriel's expression remains serene, but a faint tremor runs through her wings. "Father is... gone?"
"Sealed," you correct gently. "With hours left to live. He chose to preserve what remained of his existence, for a future event which he has requested to attend personally. He transferred Heaven's administration to me to ensure continuity."
Michael's wings flare again, but he remains silent, letting Gabriel speak.
Gabriel takes another step down. "And your offer?"
"My multidimensional dungeon subsumes Heaven's operational framework, prayer routing, blessing distribution, soul management, all automated systems. No changes to daily function unless I decide otherwise. Michael retains direct oversight as Archangel. Heaven continues as it is. In exchange, you come with me. You will be able to return whenever you choose, however time dilation will mean years here may be days there, or vice versa. You will act as My liaison between Heaven across dimensions. Information exchange, mutual aid if needed. You remain chief seraph in title and duty; you simply gain a broader scope."
Gabriel's violet eyes narrow slightly. "You ask me to leave Heaven. To serve outside its boundaries."
"I ask you to choose," you reply. "Heaven's systems are already mine. You can remain here under Michael's command, watching the realm continue under foreign administration. Or you can come with me, see worlds beyond this one, bring Heaven's perspective to places that have never known it, and return whenever you wish. Your choice. No force."
Michael speaks then, voice tight. "Gabriel, you are Heaven's heart. If you leave-"
"If I stay," Gabriel interrupts gently, "Heaven continues under new management I do not understand. If I go, I can observe, report, and perhaps guide that management from within." She looks at you directly. "You guarantee Heaven's core functions remain intact?"
"I do," you say. "No mass redesign unless absolutely necessary. No disruption to prayer or soul routing. Michael keeps his position. You keep your role. The only change is oversight, and your presence in my domain when you choose to be there."
Gabriel is silent for a long moment. Her wings shift again, the chime softer this time.
"I will need to consult with the Seraphim," she says finally. "And with Michael privately. This is not a decision to be made in a garden surrounded by panicked subordinates."
"Reasonable," you reply. "Take the time you need. I'll wait."
Michael nods stiffly. "We will retire to the inner sanctum. You and your... companions may remain here. No one will interfere."
He turns, gesturing for Gabriel and the seraphim escorts to follow. The cathedral doors swing wider, golden light spilling out. The angels around you begin to disperse slowly, still casting nervous glances over their shoulders.
You remain standing at the base of the steps, group around you, watching Michael and Gabriel disappear into the cathedral.
Albedo speaks quietly beside you. "He'll try to convince her to refuse."
"He'll try," you agree. "But Gabriel's curiosity is already engaged. And she felt the Codex shift. She knows the truth."
Grayfia smiles faintly. "She'll come. Heaven has always valued duty above all else. If she sees her duty extending beyond these gardens, she'll follow."
Oriax's voice is soft amusement. "And if she refuses?"
"Then we extract her, or move to the next timeline." you say simply. "But I'd prefer she chooses."
The cathedral doors close behind Michael and Gabriel with a resonant boom. The gardens fall into uneasy quiet, broken only by distant chimes and the rustle of wings.
