Chapter 30: Events from an alternate timeline +18
Through the scrying window, you watch Calca take a deep breath and exchange one final, long look with Kelart. The High Priestess's protective stance has relaxed slightly, though her brown eyes remain calculating.
"I would like to meet your master," Calca says carefully, her diplomatic training evident in every measured word. "However, I have conditions before agreeing to dimensional travel or inviting him to our world."
Jibril's wings flutter with barely contained excitement. "Of course! Please, articulate your concerns."
"First," Calca continues, her blue eyes steady, "Kelart accompanies me to any meeting. Non-negotiable. Second, I want assurances that we can return to our world safely if we choose to decline his... proposals. Third, any demonstrations of power must not harm our citizens or damage our infrastructure."
Kelart adds firmly, "And fourth--we need time to prepare our advisors and arrange security for the kingdom during our absence. We cannot simply vanish without explanation."
"Very reasonable terms," Jibril agrees with genuine approval. "Master values intelligence and caution. Let me consult with him regarding logistics." The Flügel closes her eyes briefly, and you sense the telepathic connection activating through your ring network. Master? Queen Calca Bessarez and High Priestess Kelart Custodio have expressed interest in meeting you, with specific conditions regarding safety assurances and preparation time. Recommend scheduling meeting for tomorrow at their convenience, allowing them to arrange kingdom affairs.
The scrying window shows Jibril opening her eyes. "Master agrees to all four conditions. He suggests meeting tomorrow at a time of your choosing--this gives you opportunity to prepare your kingdom and make necessary arrangements. Would you prefer he visits your world, or would you accept dimensional transport to neutral ground?"
Calca's shoulders relax slightly at the acceptance of her terms. "Tomorrow afternoon. Two o'clock by our city bells. And... I think neutral ground might be wisest for initial meeting. Somewhere we can retreat from if necessary."
"Excellent choice," Jibril says warmly. "Master will create a dimensional meeting space--comfortable, non-threatening, with clear exit portal visible at all times. He respects your caution."
Kelart speaks up, her protective tone still evident. "What should we expect from this meeting? What will he ask of us?"
"Honest conversation," Ikaros replies with mechanical precision. "Master values authenticity over performance. He will assess whether your goals align with his interests, whether you possess intellectual flexibility to adapt to paradigm-shifting information, and whether you find potential arrangement acceptable. He does not employ deception or manipulation--only direct negotiation."
Jibril adds with a mischievous grin, "And he's quite pleasant to look at, if that matters. Powerful beings often neglect physical presentation, but Master understands aesthetic value."
Calca's cheeks flush slightly. "I... see. Tomorrow at two o'clock, then. How will we know where to go?"
"We'll return at that time to escort you," Jibril confirms. "Prepare whatever questions you wish. Bring advisors if you desire--Master has no objection to witnesses. This is diplomatic negotiation, not seduction trap."
The scrying window shows both women nodding slowly, processing the commitment they've just made.
You adjust the focus of your scrying magic, seeking Neia Basara. After a brief shimmer, her small, modest apartment comes into view--a cramped space in a lower-middle-class district of the Sacred Kingdom’s capital. Practical, austere. Lived in by someone who survives rather than relaxes.
At that table sits a young woman with sharp, narrow eyes and a severe expression that would seem intimidating to anyone who didn’t know how easily people misread her. Her bow rests beside her; she’s maintaining it with meticulous care and practiced hands. Dark circles accentuate her eyes--intensity mistaken for hostility, exhaustion mistaken for danger.
Neia Baraja. Exactly where she should be.
With a barely perceptible shift in the air, a silver-edged dimensional portal materializes in the center of her apartment. Her reaction is instantaneous.
She yanks back so hard her chair skids and nearly topples. Her hand flashes toward the shortbow on the table--not quite grabbing it, but ready to. Her eyes widen, the sharpness turning to pure shock, tension rippling through her posture like a drawn bowstring.
“Peace,” you say, lifting a hand in a calming gesture. Simultaneously, you conjure the outfit you have prepared: a tight, backless cocktail mini dress, a sheer white bolero drifting like mist around it, and delicate lacy sheer lingerie that would make any noblewoman blink thrice. The magic suspending them glows softly, letting the fabrics float with quiet grace.
Neia goes very still. Her eyes lock onto the garments, then flick to me, then back. She swallows--hard.
“I apologize for entering uninvited,” you say, stepping forward with a polite nod. “Miss Baraja, yes?”
“…Yes,” she manages, voice tight. “I--I don’t understand.”
“I’m not surprised.” you give her a small, warm smile, careful to make it gentle, not overbearing. “I’m here to extend an invitation.”
Her brows arch, a quick, sharp movement that betrays her confusion. She stands stiffly, like a soldier awaiting orders, but her hands tremble just enough to notice.
“Tomorrow at noon,” you continue, “I’ll return to escort you to a meeting. Two o’clock sharp. Queen Calca Bessarez and High Priestess Kelart Custodio will be in attendance.”
She blinks rapidly--disbelief, panic, confusion all flickering behind her severe gaze.
“The Queen?” Her voice breaks slightly. “You want me--me--to meet Her Majesty?”
“Yes,” you say simply.
Her breath quickens. She looks down at herself--plain training clothes, scuffed boots--then back at the floating white silk, then finally at me. A faint flush creeps beneath her cheeks, subtle but unmistakable.
You guide the garments a little closer. “These are for the meeting,” you say. “I thought white would suit you. It complements your eyes.”
Her back stiffens. Her gaze snaps to mine. For a moment, she forgets to breathe.
Her eyes--always misinterpreted by others as harsh--now widen in a very different way. Not fear. Not aggression. Just… stunned.
She reaches out, hesitates, then touches the edge of the bolero. The softness clearly startles her; her fingers linger longer than she intends. “You expect me to wear this?” she whispers.
“If you’re comfortable,” you answer, your voice warm but respectful. “I believe you’ll look stunning in it.”
Her breath catches--sharply. Her gaze darts away, a flick of movement that suggests she’s wrestling with a sudden, overwhelming rush of emotion she doesn’t understand and can’t show. Her posture tightens--for a moment almost defensive--then melts into something more vulnerable.
You pretend not to notice her internal turmoil. Best not to embarrass her.
“Tomorrow at noon,” you remind her softly. “Be ready. I’ll escort you myself.”
You turn back toward the portal. Just before stepping through, you glance over your shoulder and offer a final, reassuring smile. “Rest well tonight, Miss Baraja.”
The portal closes behind me with a quiet hiss of air.
Through lingering traces of magical perception, I sense Neia standing motionless in her small apartment--holding the white silk carefully, reverently, as though afraid it might vanish if she lets go. The shock, the confusion, the swirl of emotions she can’t put into words simmer under the surface.
She doesn’t understand what’s happening yet. But she will.
You settle into your throne, the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown resting against the armrest, and wait. The vast chamber remains silent except for the soft crackle of magical flames along the obsidian pillars. Two minutes pass before the air shimmers with dimensional distortion.
First like heat haze, then like reality itself trying to fold neatly.
Jibril materializes in a burst of layered color, her wings folding in symmetrical precision as she lands with the confidence of a being who has mastered dimensions themselves. A heartbeat later, a second distortion opens beside her. Ikaros descends through it, pink hair catching the chamber’s glow, her white wings retracting with soft mechanical efficiency.
Both approach you.
Jibril’s steps are smooth, eager, deliberate.
Ikaros’s footsteps are exact, measured, perfectly controlled.
“Master,” Jibril begins, bowing deeply--respectful, yet unable to fully hide the thrill in her eyes. “Our evaluation of Queen Calca Bessarez and High Priestess Kelart Custodio is complete. Both subjects demonstrated adequate intellectual flexibility when confronted with paradigm-shifting information.”
Ikaros continues in her calm, precise monotone, “Physiological readings confirm emotional curiosity superseded initial defensive responses. Queen Calca’s heart rate increased twenty-three percent during discussion of potential harem service, indicating emotional processing rather than rejection. High Priestess Kelart maintained protective stance but accepted sixth-tier demonstrations as genuine.”
Jibril’s smile widens as she rises from her bow. “Both have agreed to meet you tomorrow at two o’clock, Master. They requested neutral ground with visible exit portals, and insisted on attending together. Neither panicked--both calculated.”
“Calca evaluates through theological obligation and strategic necessity,” Ikaros adds. “Recognition of your potential to neutralize demihuman threats increases her willingness to negotiate. Kelart remains cautious, but unable to refute observed power.”
Jibril folds her hands neatly before her, wings giving a pleased flutter. “I delivered the provocative framing you instructed: ‘a collection of powerful and beautiful women serving his interdimensional interests.’ Their reactions confirmed self-awareness, negotiation instinct, and confidence under pressure.”
Ikaros tilts her head slightly. “Additional data: you visited a third target--Neia Baraja--via dimensional portal at 10:36 this morning. Inclusion in tomorrow’s meeting remains consistent with your outlined plan.”
You rise from the throne and step toward them.
Jibril straightens with barely-contained anticipation.
Ikaros remains still, but her wings tighten by a fraction--her equivalent of attention.
You lift a hand to each of them--your palm brushing along Jibril’s cheek while your fingers rest lightly against Ikaros’s. “You both performed perfectly,” you tell them, your voice warm and controlled. “Exactly the assessment I needed.”
Jibril melts into your touch with a soft sound of contentment, her wings spreading ever so slightly in response. “Your praise is everything, Master. Their reactions were fascinating to analyze.”
Ikaros does not move, but her emerald eyes lock onto your face with unwavering focus. “This unit is pleased to have completed its assigned function with optimal efficiency,” she says--though something quiet, unspoken flickers beneath her composed tone.
You withdraw your hands and step back. “Prepare yourselves,” you say. “Tomorrow will be an interesting day.”
Both bow deeply. Two loyal wings to your will--one scholarly, one mechanical--awaiting your next command.
You turn your attention to Jibril, who still stands at respectful attention before your throne. "I have a particular task for you," you say. "Tomorrow's meeting will begin with a demonstration--a visual chronicle of events from the timeline that would have occurred without my intervention. Focus on Queen Calca Bessarez, High Priestess Kelart Custodio, and Neia Baraja specifically. Show the Demihuman invasion, the fall of the Sacred Kingdom's northern territories, the suffering of their people. Show what becomes of them in that timeline."
Jibril's golden eyes widen with scholarly fascination. "A temporal projection of unrealized probability threads? Master, that's absolutely brilliant! I can extract the relevant sequences from the Akashic records and compile them into a coherent narrative. Approximately how much detail should I include regarding the invasion's brutality?"
"Enough to demonstrate the stakes," you reply. "They need to understand what they're facing, and what my intervention prevents. Make it comprehensive but focused--perhaps two hours of material."
"I shall have it prepared by morning," Jibril promises, wings fluttering with enthusiasm. "This will be fascinating research in its own right. The Sacred Kingdom's collapse cascades through multiple geopolitical consequences--the Theocracy's expansion, the Abelion Hills demihumans consolidating power, even effects on the Draconic Kingdom's defensive posture."
You dismiss her with a gesture and open a portal directly to Amagi Brilliant Park. The transition is instantaneous--from obsidian grandeur to bright afternoon sunlight filtering through carefully maintained gardens. The park hums with activity; families stroll past restored attractions, children's laughter echoes from the distance, and the smell of fresh popcorn drifts from a nearby vendor.
You make your way toward the main theater, a grand structure that Princess Latifa had shown you during previous visits. The building's facade has been meticulously restored--intricate stonework cleaned, windows replaced, the marquee gleaming with fresh paint.
Inside, you find Princess Latifa herself overseeing afternoon preparations. She's wearing an elegant pale blue dress today, her restored adult form moving with practiced grace as she discusses something with a stage technician. When she notices you, her expression transforms into genuine warmth.
"My lord!" She approaches quickly, offering a respectful curtsy that somehow manages to feel intimate rather than formal. "I wasn't expecting you today. Is everything well?"
"Perfectly well," you assure her. "I have a request, actually. I need to use your main theater tomorrow morning--say, from two until five. I'll be hosting a diplomatic meeting with leaders from another world, and I want to show them something on your largest screen."
Latifa's eyes light up with interest. "Another world? Of course you may use it! The theater seats two thousand, and our projection systems were just restored last week. What kind of presentation are you planning?"
"A historical documentary of sorts," you explain. "Events from an alternate timeline. I want them to experience it properly--full theater atmosphere, comfortable seating, complete privacy."
"Consider it arranged," Latifa says immediately. "I'll have the staff prepare the space and ensure no other bookings conflict. Should I have refreshments prepared as well?"
"That would be thoughtful," you agree. "Nothing elaborate--just water and light snacks. The content will be... intense. They may need something to ground them afterward."
Latifa nods seriously, her expression shifting to concern. "Will you be showing them something terrible?"
"The consequences of inaction," you reply quietly. "Sometimes the most effective diplomacy is demonstrating what you're protecting people from."
