Chapter 253: How Dare You?
Sophie Shaw had a nonchalant look on her face. "So?"
"Beg me!"
"Beg you for what?"
"Beg me to do the compatibility test. What if I’m a match for you?"
Sophie Shaw laughed. "Can you just get lost!"
Damian Morgan stuck one hand into his trouser pocket. "Fine, I’ll get lost! I hope the next time we meet, it won’t be at your funeral."
He walked to the door, pulled it open, and stepped out. He hadn’t gone more than a few steps before he heard footsteps behind him.
He turned around, and a fist came flying toward his face, smashing into it with a THUD.
Before he could even process what happened, Alaric Blackwood punched him again.
He fell to the ground in a sorry state, half of his face already swelling up.
By the time he came to his senses, Alaric Blackwood had already turned and was walking back toward Sophie Shaw’s room. In the past, he would have just let it go. After all, he had nothing now and couldn’t afford to provoke Alaric Blackwood.
But now, Alaric Blackwood was just like him—he had nothing. What was there to be afraid of?
He immediately pulled out his phone and called the police.
Shortly after, two police officers arrived. He claimed he had been assaulted. The officers checked the security footage and attempted to mediate.
"I want him to give me a sincere apology."
Damian Morgan was haughty.
Alaric Blackwood sneered, "Impossible."
Neither side was willing to back down or showed any intention of reconciling, so the police officers had no choice but to take them both to the station.
Alaric Blackwood sat in a chair, lighting a cigarette with an indifferent expression.
"Alright, tell me. Why did you get violent?"
Alaric Blackwood said bluntly, "He cursed my wife."
"Cursed?"
"My wife was diagnosed with leukemia. He’s her ex-boyfriend who couldn’t accept that she moved on, so he came to the hospital pretending to visit. He told my wife to beg him, saying that if she begged, he’d get tested to see if he’s a match. When my wife refused, he cursed her, saying the next time they met might be at her funeral."
"If that’s not deliberately cursing my wife, then what is?"
Alaric Blackwood refused to yield. He sent a message to Preston Chase on his phone. The man arrived quickly, bringing two professional lawyers with him.
"He said such vicious things to a seriously ill person. I want him to apologize to my wife first and pay her for emotional distress. Only then will I apologize for my actions."
Damian Morgan laughed contemptuously. "You hit me, and you want me to pay *you* for emotional distress?"
"That’s right."
"Absolutely not. You think you’re the only one who can call a lawyer?"
Furious, Damian Morgan pulled out his phone and made a call.
He called Conor Sullivan directly. "Mr. Quinn, I’m at the police station..."
A little over ten minutes later, a middle-aged man arrived, also with two lawyers in formal suits behind him.
"Wright."
The moment Damian Morgan saw the middle-aged man, he looked as if he’d seen a family member. The man, however, scowled when he saw Alaric Blackwood.
The man who arrived was Troy Wright, Timothy Quinn’s loyal subordinate, and also a private investigator for an investigation firm.
Alaric Blackwood curled his lip into a smile at him, then stood up. Without another word, he turned to Damian Morgan and said with a grin, "I’m sorry. I was impulsive today. I shouldn’t have hit you."
He apologized.
The apology caught Damian Morgan completely off guard, leaving him stunned on the spot.
While he was still stunned, Alaric Blackwood turned and asked the police officer, "Now that I’ve apologized, are we done here?"
The officer looked at Damian Morgan. When Damian didn’t speak, the officer’s gaze shifted to Troy Wright.
The latter naturally didn’t want any conflict with Alaric Blackwood, so he nodded at the officer.
"Mr. Blackwood, you’re free to go."
As soon as the officer finished speaking, Alaric Blackwood left with Preston Chase and the two lawyers.
Watching Alaric Blackwood just walk away like that, Damian Morgan snapped out of his daze and said anxiously, "He was smirking the whole time! How was that a sincere apology?"
Troy Wright shot him a cold glare. "Don’t drag this out."
’He doesn’t even know his own place, yet he dares to go head-to-head with Alaric Blackwood.’
He forcibly dragged Damian Morgan out of the police station. He saw Alaric Blackwood get into a black sedan by the roadside and drive away. He then yanked on Damian Morgan, shoved his head down, and pushed him into a car. After getting in himself, he warned in a cold voice, "Stop looking for trouble. Mr. Quinn doesn’t have time to clean up your messes."
"Alaric Blackwood started it, and the security footage proves it."
’I’m the one in the right. What do I have to be afraid of?’
However, Troy Wright warned him again, "Don’t provoke Alaric Blackwood."
Damian Morgan didn’t understand. "His dad already kicked him out. He’s not the heir anymore. He has nothing now, so why should we be afraid of him?"
Troy Wright couldn’t be bothered to waste words on him. He signaled the driver to go, taking him directly to Timothy Quinn’s private residence.
It was a standalone villa far from the city center, in a remote location with few people around.
Damian Morgan was practically dragged out of the car. Although Troy Wright was middle-aged, he was strong and well-built. He hauled Damian along, and Damian couldn’t break free, forced to let himself be dragged into the house like a helpless chick.
He was roughly shoved in front of Timothy Quinn, stumbling and nearly falling over.
Timothy Quinn was sitting on the living room sofa, unhurriedly brewing tea. A cane rested beside the young man’s hand.
Before he could speak, Timothy Quinn suddenly picked up the cane and struck him with it. It hit him right on the kneecap, and the pain made him lose his balance and drop to one knee.
He rubbed his kneecap, looking at Timothy Quinn, furious and annoyed. "Conor Sullivan, what do you think you’re doing?"
"Idiot!"
Timothy Quinn cursed, but it wasn’t enough to vent his anger. He raised his cane to strike again, but Damian Morgan was quick and caught the cane as it swung down.
"What are you doing?"
"Look at the mess you’ve made."
"What did I do?"
"You actually sold off your shares of Heart of the Ocean at a low price? Without consulting me at all."
"They’re my shares. I can do whatever I want with them. I don’t need to consult you."
"Alaric Blackwood set a trap for you, and you fell for it so easily. Truly foolish."
Damian Morgan froze. "What do you mean?"
"Did you think Heart of the Ocean was finished?"
"Isn’t it?"
’How could a small company like that withstand pressure from the Kane Group?’
"What you saw and what you heard was just what Alaric Blackwood *wanted* you to see and hear. Why didn’t you talk to me before making a decision?"
"He’s washed up. What kind of trap could he possibly set for me?"
"What makes you think he’s washed up? Just because his position at the Blackwood Group was taken by someone else?"
"Not just that. His inheritance rights were also revoked."
"So what? Even if he doesn’t inherit the Blackwood Group, he’s still a major capital player. You don’t actually think he’s a nobody just because he lost his inheritance rights, do you?"
Damian’s heart dropped. "You mean he’s not?"
"Have you ever done a deep investigation into Alaric Blackwood?"
"I have a general understanding of his situation."
"You didn’t even do a thorough investigation. How could you be so reckless?"
Timothy Quinn shook his head helplessly. "Alaric Blackwood bought a few days of trending topics, and that was enough to make you sell off your shares—for a price like two hundred thousand, no less."
Timothy Quinn was speechless with anger. "Do you have any idea that the market value of the shares you held was estimated at two million, at least? And you sold them for a mere two hundred thousand!"
Damian Morgan was choked speechless. It wasn’t until Timothy Quinn threw a file of Alaric Blackwood’s personal information in front of him that he discovered Alaric Blackwood possessed immense financial resources, with personal investments not just in the country, but abroad as well.
Alaric Blackwood had already made a fortune during his years abroad. He was nothing like the rumors portrayed: a good-for-nothing second-generation heir who only cared about pleasure and flirting with women. That was just a facade. Losing his inheritance and the position of CEO of the Blackwood Group was of no real consequence to him.
